Biden dropping out. Wow. Faster than I thought.

Potential replacements:

Harris
Newsom
Whitmer
Shapiro
Warnock
Pritzker
Beshear
Buttigieg
Kelly
Cooper
Clinton
AOC

I am sad that we are not getting four nights of must-watch TV with all of these horses in the race…in a throwback to the old days of presidential politics….and in Chicago in a year of civic unrest and societal rot, at that
It’s got to be Harris. Biden and Bill already endorsed her. I hope it’s Harris. I want Trump to win.

X really is the best for breaking news. Decentralization for the win.

“Do t underestimate Joes ability to screw thjngs up”

-Barack Obama
He also said this today:

“We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”

No Kamala endorsement from Obama. This is from being decided.

It will be interesting to see how the power brokers (Obama and Clinton) respond.

The Clintons were reportedly stronger for Biden than Obama was over the last couple of weeks. We may never know, or at least not until the tell-all book is written in a few years, how much of that is true, but it certainly felt like Obama was trying to push Biden out and the Clintons were at least somewhat trying to keep the door open for him.

I don’t know who Obama would support in a blitz primary (something Lloyd Doggett is calling for) over Harris. Newsom and Whitmer are the two most notable names with a chance to actually win delegates who haven’t endorsed Harris yet. Newsom, at a minimum, is polling the race; he has ambition so deep in his blood that he’s not going to immediately roll over if there’s an opening for him, but he’s also not going to waste his shot on a lost cause.

Obama would need personal animosity toward Harris, and/or a strong belief in someone and both a willingness and ability to quickly build an entire campaign from scratch for that person, to go against the initial wave of support for her

Goofy defund/bail projects and Harris. Woke bs. Gas prices. Massive border crossing spike. Massive inflation spike. Dems punt Harris and go with someone new all of those talking/attacking points are gone. It’s a clean slate. A politician unencumbered by all of that (if chosen wisely) who could absolutely unload on trump. This is a real opp for Dems

Positives: good name recognition. May be able to consolidate Black and Hispanic voters which Biden really struggled with

Negatives: Poor approval ratings and polling. Hasn’t done much as VP and had a terrible run in the 2020 primaries.

Like you, I think she is the obvious choice…but still a very risky choice. Being from California is no help, and she’ll have a lot of attacks from Trump that will be hard to deflect

He’s going to call her a dirty whore!!! But we won’t know if he means it as a put down or compliment

That’s pretty strong anti-Trump sentiment. It would suggest, if anything, dropping out to endorse Harris. But never say never, especially with lunatics like RFK…he may endorse Trump

Tens of thousands making stuff up is a wonderful idea
Is your issue with the platform? Or that some people sometimes say falsehoods? Or that you take exception with the idea that Twitter is better for accessing breaking news than anywhere else?

Help us out here. Don’t just be snide. A child can be snide.

I’d really hate to be this guy today. I mean…wow.

Then they have to vote for him, which makes no sense if he's dropping out. He can't command they vote for Harris. If he's dropping out, they become free agents.
Obama endorses an open convention, no mention of Harris.

That’s enough to get Newsom at least quietly staffing while taking the temperature of the race, if not more. The big question is whether Obama recruits someone in to run against Harris and opens his network and donor Rolodex to that person, even if he isn’t going to publicly endorse.

Nothing to me has ever suggested she wants it, but this will also get everyone talking about Michelle until she says no

I'm going to change my opinion on this. While I expect Harris will be the nominee, I no longer am convinced quickly coalescing behind her is the best strategy. Trump just had a once-in-a-lifetime week. The Dems could provide their own once-in-a-lifetime week (and no one has to get shot) simply by doing one thing: finding a few legitimate contenders willing to put their names up, so that they have to cancel the virtual roll call and have a genuine, real, uncertain convention.

It might not be enough to win, but it will create excitement and interest far beyond anyone has seen in a presidential nomination in many decades.

Compared to overloads telling us what to think. No thank you. People can think for themselves and figure it out.
If that were true blaming every stoplight that turns, every bad food order, every time our favorite sports team loses on the deep state wouldn't be a thing.

Just got off the phone with an old friend. We discussed which is the more dysfunctional organization:

The Chicago White Sox, or

The Democratic Party.

The level of of tin foil hat conspiracy theorists on X the past week has been epic. Everything from a video of UFOs just before Trump was shot at, to 3, 4, or 5 shooters, to claims that Matt Gaetz was wearing a skin mask at the convention that you could see around his eyes (I think some claimed he was a lizard). I even learned there were Egyptian hieroglyphs in secret caves in the Grand Canyon, but you’re not allowed to even search for those caves. And every post about the anniversary of that Purdue grad walking on the moon was filled with responses from flat earthers.

It’s the high tech equivalent of the Dark Ages.

I’m pretty confident in saying Shapiro won’t be anywhere on the Democratic ticket. Not a Jew, not this cycle, not for democrats.

Beshear is way too southern. He looks and sounds like a guy Joy Reid would make snide quips about being a racist. This isn’t the 1992 Democratic Party. Not gonna happen.

Newsome and Whitmer seem to be the most likely to me, whether at the top or bottom of the ticket.

You don’t think that could backfire?

I get what you’re saying. But, given all the circumstances, there are definitely some real risks with that.

Personally, I think it’s a great platform (aside from all the damn bots).

Yes, there are a lot of loonies on there too. But they’re easy to spot and dismiss or ignore.

Whitmer would have been a good pick, with Beshear or Mark Kelly as VP.

Kamala, in my opinion, is a lot riskier choice.

Either way, Trump's chances now are a lot lower.

And the good news is that everything they said at the RNC are now obsolete.

Speaking of leaders that need to exit stage left. Jerry Reinsdorf needs to sail off into the sunset.

If he didn’t have Jordan fall in his lap he would be one of the worst owners in sports history. Torturing Sox and Bulls fans for decades now.
There was a potential big development project that was being looked at here about 12 or 13 years ago. I got pulled in to be involved in it.

It took me a while to figure out that the lead developer “Jonathan” was Jerry Reinsdorf’s son. And he was looking for gobs of state money…when Mitch Daniels was governor.

Needless to say, the public money never came and the project never got far past the starting gate.

I’m not yet convinced Harris will be the nominee. They still have a lot of work to do.

A. It sounds like you didn’t watch much of the RNC. There was a pretty concerted and evident effort to avoid the main point of focus being on attacking Biden. Of course he was still mentioned, he is the president and Trump was running against him. This did not catch anyone at the RNC flat footed.

B. Your advice would have been to do what? Criticize the half dozen or so candidates to replace Biden and hope one of them comes to fruition?

Please get serious. Don’t come here and post garbage.

It is sad that those things get posted, it is far more sad that thousands (tens of thousands) completely believe anything.

There is nothing wrong, contrary to popular belief, that news gets checked out and the requirements for multiple sources. Even getting sources. One friend of a friend heard on the subway isn't a good source.

I think you are over estimating Trump's appeal.

All the democrats have to do is remind everyone that he's a fascist, a corrupt businessman, a rapist, a felon, a traitor, an insurrectionist, a public health nightmare, a bad husband, a toxic narcissistic pr###, a poor leader, and a danger to our democracy, and it should do the trick.

I would never vote for Kamala Harris...
unless she happens to be running against Trump. I figure having a solid cognitive state and a pulse are all it will take for 10s of millions of Americans in November.

It’s better than 4 centralized proxies of the intelligence apparatus doing it with no counter-balance.

Plus, decentralized systems are always the most efficient . The information just has to be standardized. That is what happened in banking, entertainment and now news. The camera was something that opened up a lot of doors.
