86 Thousand New IRS Field Agents, Why?

Read the IRS job description, why do accountants need guns? I will tell you why, they're getting ready to come after your's and if you don't comply they will freeze your assets or lock you up.
Funny how libs want to defund the police but arm accountants isn't it?

So it will cost everybody more innocent or not. Banking fees will rise, Innocent people will have to spend money to fight them, small businesses will close.

I have an idea , lets have a commission to observe teachers classrooms and randomly sit in on classes and decide if teachers are teaching correctly or not, whether there is any actual reason to or not . Just randomly do it and make the teacher prove she is innocent.

What is this fantasy world progressives live in where millionaires and billionaires are all a bunch of tax cheats? They all can afford accounting firms and advisors that shelter their income and assets in a variety of perfectly legal ways.

You know who has a lot of undeclared income? Waiters, people who rely on tips, middle class people with small side hustles, self employed people trying to build a business.

These new agents will predominately harass the middle and lower class just like they always have.

It’s regressive as shit.

Strippers. Think of the amount of time the agents could spend undercover observing them .

Everyone running small business isn't an accountant or want to be. When you are out running around trying to get something done keeping every receipt and even if you do a lot of them fade in no time anyway. It wont be as much people purposely doing anything but people who have never done anything but have a W2 and take standard deduction have no clue about trying to keep track of everything and getting things done at the same time. It goes both ways , you can also have times the govt gets more than they should. It happens. Not talking about tens of thousands of dollars.

C'mon, man. You're acting like keeping a basic set of books is just too much for a small business owner. I ain't buyin' it. If you're sharp enough to run a business, you're sharp enough to keep your books, or more likely have someone do it for you. In many mom and pop outfits, the wife keeps the books at home, and usually has a pro (like @stollcpa ) go over them monthly, and a large number of them farm out their payroll. (Even the company I work for, with $12M revenue and six locations, does just that.)

let @stollcpa share the aggravation in dealing with the irs with you. the agents aren't like stoll and marvin. they're miserable. i've helped a few buddies who own restaurants deal with it in the past and it's hell.

That wasn't what I was getting at. I was taking issue with Cray acting like keeping a clean set of basic books is just too doggone much of a burden. I do it myself for a small non-profit I'm involved with, and there's really nothing to it. You just can't blow it off, and you can't get "creative", but it's a simple case of plugging in the numbers. I use a free open source accounting software, and have a rudimentary understanding of GAAP, and have had no issue with doing it. I'm not buying that a competent small business owner can't do the same or find someone who can do it for him.

You can't cite yourself. Most small business owners don't have a college degree much less awareness of GAAP. And many aren't doing anything wrong but the tenor adopted by these agents, that I trust stoll will support, is that everyone is bad and they are out to get ya. There's time, aggravation, fear, and expense that is prayed upon by these agents on less educated small business guys trying to eke out a living. my old firm had a three or four tax lawyers and the stories they would tell helping small businesses were awful. and for what. suck the poor working guys dry so congress can spend, spend, spend. anyway, this new poster who i'm not familiar with hit the nail on the head with his or her post. when i can devote more time to the board i'm going to follow this hulls4three. reminds me of a certain someone...a young poster wise beyond his years that seems to have disappeared

Pretty simple like they have the gestapo secret police going after Trump the IRS are here to come after ordinary citizens like you. We are very close to entering a full blown police state which libs will probably love cause they will not be the targets. They must be being scared of Trump normally you just beat your opponent at the the ballot box but not biden he needs to use third world tactics cause he must thing he cannot win. Sad.

So were the poor uneducated working slobs under reporting? Keeping bad books? Taking bad deductions? Were they unduly abused by the agents? Or were they just guilty of being lousy businessmen (as opposed to great roofers or mechanics or chefs) who didn't have the good sense to make sure they kept track of their income and expenses and reported them properly. If the latter is the case, then they had no business being in business for themselves to begin with.

The self-employed are IRS targets. Obviously. And while disingenuously framing this as the Inflation Reduction Act that will be paid for by targeting those mean bad billionaires the reality is that self-employed people making less than $200k a year will be the primary target of our new IRS with six times the budget.

What are you whining about Lucy? You don’t make enough to pay taxes and you don’t make enough to report them either. Those agents aren’t for you. The only agent affecting your mind is agent orange.

The IRS realizes that they can't win against the rich where they could collect a lot of money so they are gonna go after the average Joe that can't put up a defense. However, in my opinion just do your taxes correctly and you have nothing to worry about. Most people's taxes are not that complicated so there's not a lot of places to cheat unless you're getting paid cash and not reporting it.

So the poor working slobs weren't unduly abused or harassed by the IRS?

The few I've known who have gotten in trouble had it coming. They were expensing personal stuff that was unrelated to the business. It wasn't like they were too dumb to know any better. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've seen any IRS people here in the trailer park for years and years.

They are kind of too dumb to know better which is precisely why they’re going to get caught and go to jail.

It was all kinds of shit. They had an entire practice. back taxes. penalties they couldn't keep up with or get even during downturns. payroll issues. audits that took up time. all of it would end up settled etc. the shit that happens to millions of small businesses. common stuff. some justified. some harassing. all of it. the point is that these people are working americans trying to get by. this was promoted as high wage earners, no good big companies, that's all bullshit. they are going after who should be the heart of the democrat voting block. here's how an honest bill would read:

The Clean Energy and Health Savings Bill will be funded by doubling the IRS staff and increasing its annual budget 6x to target those small businesses and individuals earning less than $200,000 per year.

But no they'll hassle the little guy, impose painful penalties, and fines, during the worst inflation in 40 years. And they call it the inflation reduction act. irony. The billionaire won't be impacted but the guy bartending and mowing lawns will get hit

Yeah sure. The others in the trailer park are too busy adjusting their TV antennas to give a shit about you and your tax problems.
Do you ever wonder why Uncle Mark never picks on me? I will tell you why, we belong to the “ trailer brotherhood “

What is your solution? No tax code enforcement? Only if certain thresholds are met? Curious.

I had a lot of moss growing in my back yard. So I hired some guys to pick it off the ground and landscaping. It grew back. So I hired even more guys to pick it off the ground and landscaping. Then I asked a professional how to get rid of the moss. He said: just rid of all the unnecessary foliage and let the sun shine through.

And that's how you fix the tax code.

I love how all these people who have no experience either as accountants or dealing with anything more than a W2 have all the answers about this. They have no clue

Going to be fun to watch the BDS folks here pivot away from "The middle class will suffer" and toward "This is nothing but class warfare."

We shall see. I saw from the start they arent adding the whole 86,000 or whatever the number is all at once no more than 10-15% increase a year . I doubt they could find 86k in one year.

Trainees aren't getting cases worth millions. I'll trust what the joint committee opined as it comports with common sense
