The discussion is on announcing retaliation. I don't see how that matters one way or the other. They know we will retaliate. Announcing it isn't any stupider than declaring war on Japan was, as that also made our intentions clear. The catch is, in both cases, our intentions are already crystal clear. There will be a strike. We should strike on our time, not their time. If that is 3 weeks from now, or tomorrow, that is up to the experts. I imagine it will not include nuking Tehran thus it won't be popular no matter what it does.
I applauded Bush 43 for waiting after 9/11 to get everything set and the right target hit. He messed up by then also hitting the wrong target. Same here. Let's hit the right targets hard at the time of our choosing.

I agree with that, here was the Tweet that Jamie took Biden to task for "BREAKING: Joe Biden to “authorize U.S. military action” in the Middle East as early as tonight.".

I don't know we will get it right or not. I'm not sure we'll know for a long time if we got it right. We seem to think we can judge history as it is happening. We might do a hard strike we all applaud. It turns out that sets events in motion that leads to disaster in 5 years.
Fall 1979 there was a pep rally at Dunn Meadow before the Purdue game. It broke out into chants of "can Iran, screw Purdue". I'm in favor of canning Iran today, but I freely admit I am not a military expert nor a Middle East expert and have no clue what that will do to the chess board in 5 years. It's not a guarantee there would be a filibuster if border enforcement is in the bill. In fact, I doubt there would be - if so, it would get the 60 votes needed to stop it.

There is no tactical purpose for the Biden White House to say anything about retaliation. The only reason for the announcement is politics and polling. The Biden approach to everything is messaging and polling data. There is little to no important substance.

Desantis is smarter than trump Biden and all of Biden’s admin. You could get rid of them all and just have Desantis. That he isn’t the next president is an indictment on the system. You either have to be a swamp rat like Biden or sensational so the media can pull ratings and get bites like trump.

He was a navy guy so I would hope he was tuned in but I’m assuming. But he’s been an extremely effective gov and based on the combo of his background and demonstrated success governing a massive state that should be more than enough to beat trump Biden.

My guess is the members want to send the message to their constituents that they are doing something about the border.
I think linking Ukraine and the border through the legislative process is a mistake. The GOP message to the democrats should be to shut the border before any administration priority gets money.
Disagree. The President needs to be a leader. Leaders need some charisma. Need to know how to communicate, both to their direct reports and to the public. Look at Reagan. He didn't need to micromanage things or be involved in logistical decision-making to be a good president.

I am prepared for people to find his attack underwhelming, even if it nukes Tehran. And to be honest, I expect to be underwhelmed. But I'm not feeling the compulsive need to soften the ground by rending my clothes BEFORE we retaliate. It is now a race to show outrage before something happens and it is wrong.

That is a good question. I'd argue that we can't make a strike unless we have enough certainty to go all in. Killing a few people as an offset to possibly being wrong doesn't seem right to me. My guess is we can identify the drone from the remains, so we'll at least know if it is an Iranian drone. At that point we have something. I suspect we have some intel from intercepts.
But I am all in favor of the legalese, we need to make a case before any strike. We don't have a special right to lash out at anyone just because. Now it doesn't need to be a public case. But I think it requires assent from the leadership of the House and Senate before a strike. It can't go to the full Senate, it would surely be leaked.
I suspect politics and pr will play a role and Biden’s peeps want to make a splash

Taking scalps would be more interesting if your people could do it with cleverness and intelligent points. Instead, you have some who offer only vulgarity, and others who offer only bad faith hackery. It becomes tiring after a while, and I'm not surprised even someone as collected as Marvin would eventually be done with it.
Isn't this the Catch-22. If he makes a small attack, he is weak. If he makes a big attack, he is weak but worried about polling. There is no response he can do that some would credit him for.
