Today's desktop Linux users are drawn to its ease of use, innate security, and the ability to customize it in ways limited only by the imagination. Contrary to what you say above, there is little to no maintenance involved beyond doing the occasional updates, which are nearly always quick, done when you chose, and don't require reboots.
