The problem is Harris did run a middle of the road campaign. She didn’t mention pronouns or even transgender people on the campaign trail. She ran on tax cuts for the middle class, a stronger border and better end of life care.

Maybe she should have scapegoated an immigrant population and simulated oral on a microphone.
lmao In other words, she didn't run on anything she'd been advocating for decades.

Gee, I can't imagine how she lost, running such a middle of the road campaign.

A dear friend suddenly became disabled to the point of not being able to work. In visiting him I became aware he had given up on life and was completely dispondent.

Upon getting therapy after my visit he discovered he had become addicted to work. It is called workalcoholism. A disease which causes a dependence on work to the point of being a destructive mental disorder.

So among the list of addictions we can add work alongside of drugs, alcohol, porn, etc.

Sad to note, In spite of therapy my depressed friend has replaced his work addiction with alcohol addiction and is managing to kill himself. Refuses to admit he has replaced one addiction for another.
I have a sister who is so depressed, she wants to die, but won't commit suicide.

So, she basically has done nothing with herself for several years and wouldn't take any advice or try to help herself.

After her last episode in the hospital, we got her into a rehab facility and she improved somewhat. Now I've got her into assisted living, where I hope socializing with other people will help her.

It's sad,but once people get into that downward spiral, it's virtually impossible to get them out of it. My father-in-law drank himself to death after my mother-in-law died.

Sad situation with your friend.

Do you believe Trump ran a middle of the road campaign on abortion?

I think he ran a coy campaign on abortion by saying he wants it pushed back to the states. He never talked about an all-out ban, other than to say he wasn't for it. That said, I don't think the Evangelical Christians who helped him get elected are good with or will settle for that.

Dude I’ve been maced, hit in the face with hot hair irons, left out of town multiple times, had my dog listed on Craig’s list, had F*UCK OFF written in sharpie on my NCAA Tournament Certificate and on and on and on. That woman has six wedding rings BECAUSE SHE BRINGS IT!!!!! PASSION!!!! She’ll get lucky seven. You don’t have to worry about that

She ran a campaign with zero substance or detail, which has always been her issue. That doesn't detract from the fact that she was on the far left side of the spectrum as a Senator. Under an administration that ran left of Biden's historical norms, there is no way to believe she is a moderate Democrat.

I'm really pulling for Josh Shapiro.

I may or may not vote for him if he's nominated -- we'll see. But I feel like the country would be in good hands if he were elected. He seems pragmatic, not dogmatic....kind of like Govs. Youngkin and Kemp on the Republican side.
Can we both agree now that you’re a moderate right of center?

Are you able to apply that same reasoning to Harris on the issues she went middle of the road on?

I thought I read that almost all incumbents have lost elections post Covid. There are probably other reasons, but it’s almost undeniable that incumbents were caught holding the bag. Regardless of how they governed of how their respective countries are doing, that has factored in.

And the fact that Trump is a horrible, morally bankrupt person is still there.

Perhaps, but incumbents have nobody to blame but themselves. Shitty COVID policies. Terrible immigration issues across the developed world.

Contrasting with mainstream media messages about the perils of radicalization, sizable segments of the European electorate seem willing to give these parties the benefit of the doubt.

Sounds exactly like what happened in the U.S.

What's interesting is they seem to put every political movement that is not socialist into the "right" category. European politics are very different than ours.

Here's a more specific categorization of the right in that article:

"In programmatic terms, however, they all have one thing in common: the defense of more restrictive immigration policies. Moreover, if we exclude the Greek New Democracy, there are other similarities: skepticism of European centralization, global governance and grand policies such as the new green deal; opposition to what they characterize as “wokeism,” and the resurrection of concepts such as sovereignty, nation, family, religious freedom, or Europe’s Christian roots and cultural identity."

A "resurrection" of the concepts of "sovereignty, nation, family, religious freedom, or Europe’s Christian roots and cultural identity?" Were those concepts abandoned by the "left"?

No wonder Europe shifted right.

I don't think the far-left have quite the hold on Democrats as Evangelical Christians do the GOP.

The pendulum on a lot of the 'woke' stuff is generally swinging more toward the middle. Evangelical Christians have tried to hold Republicans' feet to the fire on making abortion illegal for decades.

Said differently, I don't think the base of people who espouse the 'woke' ideals have enough sway to hold Democrats hostage. And that will be even more true in '26 and '28. Evangelical Christians have had staying power for decades and it would be political suicide for a Republican to not have a strong anti-abortion stance.

I don’t understand how any of that is relevant to the question I asked.

What am I missing?

Funny, I was saying something similar about the Christian Right over 2 decades ago on the Star/News forums and this one. That the GOP was just paying them lip service and that due to the inherent third rail nature of most of their platform, they would never amount to anything other than a fringe voting block within the party.

Good luck with that...

A Brit offers some wider perspective and why people keep getting their predictions wrong:

I disagree. I think most people do understand politics, at some level. They just don't think some things are as important as the political class does.

Anyone who thinks Trump's statement on Puerto Rico was going to hurt him was living in la-la land.
