Right, because his politics are a conspiracy theory and hers are the truth LOL
Yeah, that was some bullshit she posted about Fife.
Sorry to drag you in this. Feel free to check the free board. People asked what Rabby said and I told them. Checking out now, they can say what they want.
So word of Rabby's post has gotten around, which is not a surprise since the thread is about 60 pages long. I don't read the free board here so I don't know what zeke did or didn't say, but I've read Rabby's post and a great deal of the discussion that accompanied it...
Rabby doesn't exactly wear his politics on his sleeve, so for all I know he could sympathize with what I'd assume Dane's discussion of politics entailed. But the point Rabby made was that the situation bothered parents/players/potential recruits to the point that they complained and Dane was asked to refrain from the topic. And apparently he ignored those wishes...
Another issue that cost Dane his job was the outspoken attitude he had towards NIL. If you followed the recruitment of Kyle Filipowski you know that prior to his visit this past summer he was a huge target and there was a lot of mutual interest. He visited at the same time with Justin Taylor, and although Taylor had an awesome visit and IU emerged as a strong finalist Filipowski barely mentioned IU in subsequent recruiting articles. Many people found it strange and although Rabby acknowledged that IU wasn't really an option going forward he never really delved deep into the topic. However, various posters who claimed connections and insight continued to mention "NIL" and IU screwing it up and turning the family off...
So when I saw Rabby's post last week and especially the characterization of Dane's opposition to NIL being a "concern", I understood exactly what people had meant when they had hinted at the Filipowski visit (and IU's chances) being destroyed over NIL. It was like a light bulb going off, esp since Peegs staff is now officially connected to IU's main NIL proponents who work at producing media and developing various NIL opportunities. I liked Dane as a player and I was thrilled when he joined the staff, but remember that decision was made prior to Woody being hired and it seems the two never meshed.
Rabby also recounted instances where potential recruits/family members reported Dane suggesting that he would soon be the coach and possibly sabotaging Woody behind his back. A similar thing happened when McLeod was Crean's assistant and suggested to Kyrie Irving and his family that they'd rather go to Duke.
I actually had a little insight into that, because at the time I was a member of the Premium UNC board, and UNC fans were hoping that Kyrie would choose IU rather than Duke. At the time Kendall Marshall's (UNC recruit, close to Kyrie) dad posted "anonymously" on the IC board and had documented how the Irving family was feeling and for a while it seemed very positive for IU. But then he started posting that things had shifted and IU was basically out and when I contacted him via pm he told me that McLeod had ruined IU's chances.
He wasn't specific, but later after McLeod was fired and some of the events that had transpired became known, I understood why Marshall was posting that IU was basically out about 6 mos prior to a decision being announced. That didn't mesh with the public perception of how the recruitment was going, but the families were close and he had gone from cheerfully predicting that Kyrie would choose IU to reluctantly telling the fans on the UNC board that he was going to choose Duke. The point is he told me that Crean had messed up trusting the recruitment to McLeod, and at the time I assumed he meant he (McLeod) was just incompetent. It was only later that we all found out he had secretly been pushing Kyrie to Duke all along...
Long story short- you've got to be able to trust your assistant. And from what Rabby said, I don't think Woody felt that applied to Dane any longer...
