Hypocrisy is a difficult thing to discuss.
I'm going to challenge you very politely on your premise that there are indeed things known as "rules." I tried and tried under the old format to have any of the moderators (before you) provide a link or sticky thread listing the supposed "rules" for the Peegs site. They didn't/couldn't do it. Your post isn't a recitation of any "rules" either.
One time, the supposed "rules" were pasted into a reply a couple years ago, but those are gone now. No "rules" are posted now last time I checked.
However. What I remember is that the pasted (not ever "posted") rules prohibited personal insults, and yet there is a current moderator who repeatedly responds by calling someone "dumb" if he doesn't like a post. The same "moderator" has responded several times that someone has "sand in your vagina" when he disagrees with a post, but apparently he thinks it's sensible to ban someone for using more indirect references to female anatomy. All the while, of course, "GAF" and "WTF" are openly permitted although we all know they are obscenities.
There is no policy on this board except whim and favoritism. And there are sure as hell (and sure as F ) no "rules" on this board.
And another thing -- I am absolutely not aligned with Outside Shooter or anyone else that Goat banned. I'm only challenging the original post as being, well, not based on a set of "rules" consistently enforced.
This is an organic place. I think the reason we don't have rules posted anymore is that they just didn't work. Places evolve. People evolve. Did we have a rule that prohibited personal insults? I doubt it, since we've also long had the tradition of Insult Friday (which evolved into Smackdown Friday, which they fizzled out).
We have informal rules, of course. Wives are off limits. Not because they will get you banned, but because the full community will come down on you and make you a pariah.
The mods know what isn't allowed, and so do the posters. It's a pretty short list: nudity and really naughty language. You don't need rules posted somewhere to tell you that if the Rivals.com filter won't let you post a certain word, you shouldn't try to creatively get around that filter.
But most importantly, the only rule that truly matters is this: if a mod thinks you went too far, and asks you to back off - which almost never happens here - then have some respect and do it. End of story. Peegs lets us operate this little hellhole to keep the ruffians away from the basketball board, but we can't let it turn into anarchy. If Peegs is going to let the inmates run the asylum, he's going to at least expect us to keep tabs on the other inmates.
The first time I moderated this board was ten years ago. I've literally banned two people since then. One indefinitely for some absolutely horrible hit-and-run racism, and another temporarily because he (perhaps innocently) wasn't noticing that I was sending him messages to stop what he was doing. I'm not sure how many people Ziz has banned, but I'm sure it's also a pretty small number. Other than that, all we really do here is make judgment calls on which pictures are too risque, and quietly delete/edit them without ever getting anyone in trouble.
In short, this board is about the least moderated a moderated board can be. We ask for - literally - almost nothing. Ziz will probably tell you it's because the tenor of this particular board is better when everyone has freedom. For my part, I'm just lazy. So on the rare occasion that one of us asks you to dial it back to 11, just dial it back already.
BTW, as for a formal set of rules, I think you can still find them over on the LTF, but they are horribly outdated. About 75% of what we post would be against the original rules, I'm guessing.
