This is getting fascinating as Trumpers are turning on each other, and the drama is playing out in different states over COVID policy. It's even causing rifts within Fox, as people like Ingraham continue to tout snake oil theories and attack the new enemy- contact tracing...

"Fox News host Laura Ingraham devoted much of her show Thursday night to raising questions about contact tracing, the process where interviewers try to figure out who has been exposed to the virus by literally figuring out whom the infected had contact with. As a Fox News chyron warned that contact tracing should “concern all Americans,” Ingraham claimed that calls for more contact tracers were just an “excuse” to keep businesses closed, and compared being interviewed by a contact tracer to being groped by a Transportation Security Administration agent.

“Instead of rummaging through your luggage, these contact tracers will be prying through the most intimate details of your life,” Ingraham said."

This same article details another mind-boggling battle, in Texas, where Gov Greg Abbott is about as pro-Trump as you can get. But he is being attacked because he has authorized $300 Million for contact tracing ( a sensible move on his part).

Yet he is being attacked by groups like Infowars, Judicial Watch, and most bizarrely of all by Andy and John Schlafly, the sons of Phyllis. In the "you can't make this shit up" vein, the Schlafly Bros, in particular, want Abbott to use his tracing funds to buy Trump's "miracle cure" (hydroxychloroquine) and flood the state with it. Somebody has got to own MAJOR stock in this drug- too many wingnuts are pushing it for no discernable reason that makes any other sense...

The whole idea of politicians (Trump mostly) wading into medicine and publicly debating it has just been bizarre. As with any medical condition, why not trust your physician to treat you?

Here's another civil war between factions of what I call the "lunatic fringe". The Gov and Lt Gov of Idaho are both Trumpian GOP. The male Governor has been following health professionals and decided that bars were "non-essential" and should remain on lockdown till at least June 13. The female Lt Governor (Janice McGeachin) is not only anti-lockdown, but she happens to own a bar in Idaho Falls. So last weekend she flew back to Idaho Falls to attend the (illegal) opening of her bar. She also penned an op-ed a few days earlier attacking the Governor and his reopening policy...

“As Lieutenant Governor, I am one heartbeat away from the governor’s chair,” McGeachin wrote. State residents, she added, were “sidelined and left to watch silently as the government closed Main Street by unilaterally deciding which businesses were ‘essential’ and which ones were not.”

The definition of “essential” workers came from the White House, not the statehouse, but that was lost in the remarkable animosity between Idaho’s top leaders. According to the Idaho Statesman, McGeachin and Little have not spoken in weeks"

We've discussed the definition of "essential" here at length, and save for bars and restaurants the criteria can and have been interpreted such that most anyone can stay open if they wish.

My company is a supplier to Batesville Casket Company. Funeral services and related are essential. Therefore, my company is essential. Of course, that didn't mean that Batesville would still be ordering during this crisis. They weren't. No one is having funerals. But it gave us "permission" to remain open. Most any other company can find a similar connection to an essential product or service and ride their coattails.

Now as bizarre as the situation in Idaho is, it's merely a footnote to the craziest development in right-wing circles in the past few days. As you may/may not know, there are factions within Oregon that are advocating to have a portion of Eastern Oregon secede and join with Idaho to form "Greater Idaho" or as I call it "White Supremacist Heaven/Haven"...

On this map originally obtained from Google Maps, the group Greater Idaho drew new state lines for Idaho.

Now it is undoubtedly this region which provided the victory margin for the Oregon GOP's latest "distinction"- nominating the first-ever self-proclaimed QAnon follower for the US Senate. Her name is Jo Rae Perkins and she's not just a "fringe" lunatic. She is a full-on follower who proclaimed her loyalty to "Q" at her victory speech.

Not only that but when the sane people on her staff edited some of her more zany statements, she basically cried and said that she had never intended to disavow her allegiance to Q. Her staff deleted the video of her victory speech, but it received wide media coverage before the deletion. Needless to say people like Mitch McConnell and the Save the Senate Rescue squad are beyond apoplectic...

"Jo Rae Perkins, who defeated three other candidates in a primary contest to be the Republican candidate, said in a now-deleted video after her victory: “I stand with President Trump. I stand with Q and the team. Thank you Anons, and thank you patriots. And together, we can save our republic.”

The QAnon theory has been embraced by some of the president’s supporters and centers on an alleged government agent named “Q”, whose top security clearance has provided insight into a deep-state conspiracy involving everyone from Hillary Clinton to special counsel Robert Mueller.

It also posits that Donald Trump is leading a behind-the-scenes fight against powerful forces protecting satanic paedophile rings, and that Q leaves clues for followers to decipher on internet forums.

The FBI has warned that the QAnon theory could be a motivator for “domestic extremists” to carry out violence in the US.

Anybody else see the extreme irony inherent in the belief that (well known) Jeffrey Epstein confidant/pal Donald Trump would lead the crusade against anything involving sexual "deviancy"? Especially when it comes to "paedophile rings"?...

"But by the fall of 2016, they were downplaying that aspect of his career. As it became clear that he would win the Republican nomination, they persuaded the future first lady to remove from her Internet website the nude pictures of her on Trump’s jet that he had arranged for British GQ to publish in 2001 under the headline “Sex at 30,000 ft.” Trump said he did it to advance the modeling career of his new girlfriend from Slovenia. The magazine cover showed Melania Knauss lying naked on a fur rug with a diamond bracelet. Inside the magazine, gold handcuffs tethered her to Trump’s gold-plated briefcase in his jet’s cabin. You can buy the magazine on eBay now for $1,000"

And you wonder why the US has both the highest case and death rates in the world.

This is juSt ridiculous that it's happening. It's like a satire.

Just wait until he loses in November and blames it on a rigged election.
It's incumbent that he be defeated decisively and that there are no disputes like Chicago in 1960 or Florida in 2000. Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised to see violence from the extremists.

I think the Coulter anti-Trump Twitter tirade was mentioned in another thread, but I can't remember which one. She is basically on the warpath over Trump injecting himself in another AL GOP Primary, and letting his personal animosity for Sessions override the common sense to stay neutral. Of course, common sense and Trump are like gas and water- they don't compute...

This AL situation is going to be another must-watch Prime spectacle, from the GOP Primary thru to the Gen Election. It's Roy Moore redux, with the AL/AU Rivalry (hatred) thrown in for good measure. Trump endorsing former Auburn Cach Tommy Tuberville is like the endorsement of a former PUke basketball Coach in Indiana, except on steroids. And Sessions was extremely popular with the AL necks, prior to giving up his seat to go be Trump's (first) AG. Trump is now saying that Sessions isn't "smart enough" to function as an AG, with the irony of the fact that Trump CHOSE him escaping Trump, as usual...

So in the GOP Primary you have a former AU Coach pitted against an AL graduate. And then if Tuberville prevails there, he faces another AL grad in Jones in the General election. That's back to back races where Tide fans have to choose an AU man over a former Tide graduate.

And Tuberville, unlike both Sessions and Jones, is not even an actual Alabaman- he's from Arkansas. Talk about Bama fans being asked to hold their noses and vote. This is going to be traumatic for a lot of devoted Crimson Tide backers. And to add to the chaos, Nick Sabin will not likely endorse Tuberville, and actually endorsed Joe Manchin in the 2018 Senate race in his own native West Va...
Time to sit back with some popcorn and enjoy the fun...

Coulter is all about immigration. She's a one issue person on that. She's been blasting Trump for some time for not locking down the border or building the wall, and has correctly said that Sessions was the only person in the Trump administration to do anything concrete about immigration. That's why she's blasting Trump. Sessions is the immigration candidate and Trump is opposing him for personal, not policy, reasons.

Tuberville winning the primary gives Jones a chance to keep the seat. There's a good chance there are a lot of skeletons in Tubervilles closet waiting to be exposed.

It's hilarious that Tubberville even is a challenger in the AL race. Just goes to show how so many of the Red states view their own races these days. Seriously, Tomy Tubervirville for senator? I don't even know how to spell his name. WTF are you folks in AL thinking?? damn, think for a change, JFC.

The Trumpsters recruited him, didn't they? Anything to hurt Sessions. Even if it costs them a seat.

I guess football "trumps" everything down there. Even a failed football coach sounds good to them over a serious candidate who might know something about, you know, governance.....
