This game is on FOX.

Both teams are 5-0 in conference play with IU arriving this morning after travel delays.

1st period:

Iowa grabbed an early 9-6 lead with IU having two early turnovers. At the first official's timeout, it was Iowa up 13-8, and it was the players other than Clark that were doing the scoring with Clark having two points at the timeout at the 4:59 mark.

The turnovers were IU with 3 and Iowa with 0 at the timeout also. IU scored off the timeout to pull within 13-10 Iowa. Iowa then went on a 4-0 run to have their biggest lead at 17-10. Back-to-back buckets by IU pulled them to within three at 17-14 and an old-fashion three by Holmes tied the game at 17-all with 1:30 left.

End of 1st: Iowa 19 IU 17

Clark had eight points in the period but she was 0-6 from long range with all of her points close in or at the line. The turnovers favored the Hawkeyes with IU with 5 turnovers and Iowa with 1. Holmes had eight points in the 1st, and Scalia shot was off in the first.

2nd period:

Garzon started the period with a turnover and she has three traveling calls in the game so far. Moore-McNeil tied the game at 19-19 with under 8 minutes left in the period. At and officials timeout looking at a foul called on Garzon which ended up being called a common foul, neither team was hitting the 3-ball well with Iowa 2 of 15 and IU 1 of 5.

As luck would have it, Clark hit a three just after I posted about the 3 point shooting and Iowa took the lead 22-19. Clark hit another 3 with a hand in her face to make it 25-19. They finally called a foul on Clark who likes to initiate contact on her moves with the score at 28-24 Iowa at an officials timeout. Iowa had hit three of four from 3 after a drought to give them the edge at this point.

It was Iowa 35-28 after a lazy pass by IU was picked off. Garzon hit a three, but Iowa kept answering with a bucket and it was 37-31 Iowa with under two minutes left in the half. A bucket by IU made it 37-33 Iowa with Holmes missing two FTs. After a 3 by Clark and a bucket by IU, it was 40-37 Iowa with the time winding down. Clark hit a three just before the buzzer to make it Iowa 43-37 at the half.

Half: Iowa 43 IU 37

I have to say that I have never seen them interview a player at the half, but Fox did that with Clark instead of interviewing her coach like they always do.

Holmes led IU with 12 points at the half. IU was 16-29 from the field for 55.2 pct and they were 3 of 11 on 3s for 27.3 pct. They were 2 of 5 at the line. IU had 9 turnovers at the half. Garzon and Moore-McNeil had two fouls each as the only players with more than one foul.

IU shot the ball better from the field than Iowa, but Iowa had eight more FG attempts. Iowa was 15 of 37 from the field for 40.5 pct and they were 7 of 23 on 3s for 30.4 pct. They had five turnovers and Clark was the only starter with more than one foul and she had two at the break. Another bench player had two fouls for Iowa.

3rd period:

Clark got a layup to open the period to give the Hawkeyes an eight-point lead. IU moved to within six at 45-39. Scalia missed a three and her shot had been off tonight although she hadn't shot it that much. IU continued to have turnovers and they were up to 12 turnovers already on the game.

Iowa at their biggest lead at 51-39 after another three by Clark and she was zoned in at this point from long range. Another 3 by Iowa's Marshall put the lead up to 54-39 and a timeout at 4:48 of the period. Marshall was a complimentary player for Iowa and is more of a defensive player, but she had 2 threes which is one more than any of IU players.

Meister committed a turnover out of IU's timeout which brought another official's timeout and Iowa with the ball and smelling blood in the water. IU's turnovers are at 14 and Clark had 25 points at the timeout which is almost half of Iowa's points.

Scalia broke the scoring draught for IU to cut the lead to 54-41 Iowa. Two FTs by Holmes cut the lead to 54-43 with 2:20 left in the period. Marshall who was averaging 5.1 points for the Hawks knocked down her third three to make it 59-46 Iowa and she had doubled her per game average with just over one minute left in the period.

End of 3rd: Iowa 65 IU 48

Clark ended the third with five straight points and I have to admit, the 3-point shot she hit on a step back off the defender was pretty incredible. She had 30 points at the end of the period.

4th
period:

The Hawkeyes had pushed the lead up to 69-50 and Holmes missed two FTs and her FT shooting had really dropped off from last season so far. Marshall hit another three and she was way over her per game average now. Iowa just kept adding to the margin with players normally not three-point shooter, knocking down the 3 ball when they were not getting to the basket for an easy layup.

Final: Iowa 84 IU 57

It was a tough game for IU after having to fly in on the day of the game and then facing a crowd that was frothing at the mouth and an Iowa team that was fired up. Iowa even had players that were not primary shooters dropping in the 3-ball. IU just couldn't overcome the turnovers, which were too many. IU stayed with Iowa until Clark all of a sudden caught fire from long range.
