I doubt it.
But (a) there are no towns with a bunch of Swedish immigrants, and (b) for the most part, the primary arteries of American culture and European culture are (not coincidentally) pretty similar.
We have a tendency to look at a lot of contentious matters as being driven by race, ethnicity, or nationality…when really they’re about culture.
I’m not saying that to defend the bizarre cat-eating hysteria. I’m saying it because Haitian culture, unlike European culture, is so foreign to most Americans that it becomes fertile ground for dullards to fill in those blanks with concocted myths about strange customs, rituals, cuisines, etc.
I’ve heard stories about people from foreign lands eating animals we consider pets my entire life. Imagine somebody saying it in Donnie Baker’s voice and I bet you’ll recognize it from your life experiences too.
