Truly disgusted

You’re going to be waiting a long time, as in forever. The OP was just doing his best Don Lemon impression
I’ve already been put down because I dared to desecrate the words of “a man of the cloth” awhile back. Read many of everyone’s favorite pastor’s posts. It ain’t hard to find examples

By the xenophobia displayed on these boards masquerading as patriotism and “Christianity”. A lot of posters who claim Christian values need to actually pick up the Bible and study it. That’s my epistle. I’m prepared to get blasted. IDGAF anymore

I haven't read every post and I am sure there is probably some xenophobia, but I think most people are not xenophobic, but instead dislike the lawlessness that is taking place. Romans basically tells us to follow the laws of governing authorities.

So to drape the robe of xenophobia over everyone who thinks our country needs to uphold the law first and foremost only dilutes the true meaning of the term. In addition, you are showing you don't want to have a serious discussion about the topic, but only wish to name call and label.

So you believe Trump has been anointed by God to be our leader?

I said you sound like. I didn’t say you were. For many democrats and never Trumpers, Trump does turn them into morons.

Before you say it, for some on the right, Trump turns them into incompetent morons.
No. I was being self deprecating. I truly am a moron

I don’t think most Trump supporters believe he’s been anointed by God to be our leader. I think many people believe it was a miracle his head wasn’t blown off in PA.

Isn't that xenophobia, we do not understand a people or culture so we fear it?
What if we do understand a culture and therefore dislike it? This idea that "fear" drives everything is wrong headed. It is just a way to devalue an opinion.

ETA: For example, I don't "fear" the culture of a country like Pakistan. I understand the mix of Islam and tribalism and some of the things that culturally impact their cousins in India and I don't like it. Does that mean each individual Pakistani is bad? No. Does that mean that I would take issue with dropping enough unvetted Pakistanis into a small town in the middle of America and just hope things went OK? Absolutely.

Why?

In one thread you say most people just hold their nose and vote for him but in another you say Christians worship him as some sort of divinely appointed messiah.

Seems almost bigoted against Christians.
Generalities don’t describe everyone. There are different reasons. I don’t in any way have a problem with people voting for Trunp
For their own reason. I have a problem with Trump himself for his behavior and I have a problem in general with MAGA because it has such racist xenophobic overtones

The hypocrisy is that it exists on the other side. The racists of blm and the left mirror the right. The Maxine and cori bush etc. hate whites. Blm was founded on a false narrative and proved to be a grift.

Lies. Deceit. The left lies about every national issue from abortion to inflation to project 25 to the mental decline of our leader.

So when we hear trump bad it’s in one ear out the other. Look in the mirror. This isn’t Carter running. Policies and outcomes our ears will open. The rest is partisanship

I don’t think VPM is intentionally xenophobic, although I concede he can come off that way. You might not think intent even matters. Maybe it doesn’t, I don’t know.

You said “a lot” of posters on these boards. Do you have any other examples?

Your bigotry and name calling has grown worse on here lately. It’s worrying me.

I spoke to a wise person once, Doc, who said Hurt people, Hurt people. Are you ok? Do you need to talk? Don’t be afraid to let the pain out.

ill be honest with you. I’m on day 2 of a CME conference now. Not used to sitting this long. My back hurts like hell

In early America that would have been the Germans, Italians, and Irish. Eventually enough were here that over time Americans felt comfortable enough to stop fearing.

It is. But I’ve just always thought the nefariousness attached to it — let alone ascribing it to sheer racism — was just intellectual laziness.

It’s not only always been the norm in America, it’s always been the norm pretty much everywhere. The fact, for instance, that Eastern Europeans are predominantly white didn’t exactly endear them to the Western Europeans as they started heading in after the collapse of the Soviet bloc.

This is just what tends to happen when people whose culture is markedly different emigrate. You think the average American has a proper understanding of Haitian Vodou?

Unfortunately it’s a state of the human condition that we don’t like “the other”. I’ll never understand how we can’t see that we are one singular species and that race is an artificial construct based on skin melanin content and cultural background. And i abhor politicians (like Trump) who love to exploit people’s natural basest desires to dislike “the other”. That is the comparison to Hitler some here were so offended by

Trump invokes race much less frequently than his Democratic counterparts.

Let me guess… “something, something dog whistle”

Run along you joke of a human.

Isn't all this self selecting? The real fundamentalist Pakistanis, the Wahabbi in Saud, don't particularly want to be dumped into middle America. I haven't met a lot of Pakistani but the ones I have want to be hear and fit in on the important stuff.

Yes, there are people from Pakistan I would not want. Heck, I am sure there are Scotch-Irish I do not want even if that is a massive amount of my DNA.

That seems to be the case in Springfield. The mayor, the governor, the company, say they by and large work hard. There does not seem to be a massive crime problem.

The 1950s stereotype for Mexicans was that they are lazy. Yet for a couple of generations Mexican born labor has been almost all of our migrant farm labor, not a job designed with laziness in mind.

I get there are real and legitimate concerns. "They are eating our pets" is not that. I would think those of you with legitimate concerns would not be happy a lie like that became the rallying cry. It plays to a stereotype.

The racism in MAGA is imputed to MAGA by those who are too weak, lazy, or both thinkers to really explain why they oppose MAGA. Calling Trump names or dwelling on his personality won’t cut it. I’m MAGA and have said what that means often.

Here is my challenge to you. Explain why you oppose MAGA without using the words Trump or race.

While I largely agree about the lawlessness part — public sentiment on border security, in particular, has shifted quite a bit and put opponents of it on the defensive — they aren’t mutually exclusive ideas.

In fact, many of the Haitians in Ohio are here legally under TPS. So lawlessness clearly isn’t the issue with them - unless people just mistakenly default to the assumption that most anybody here (from Haiti or otherwise) is here illegally.

I think there is a lot of xenophobia surrounding immigration. I just think it’s to be expected - as it’s long been the historical norm when people migrated.

Weren’t most Native American tribes xenophobic when the European settlers came here? I’d say they were. But, for whatever reason, we don’t tend to indict them for it - probably because their fears of losing their cultural and social autonomy were realized.

The issue is economics and lack of resources. You either don’t understand or don’t want to understand. So, you revert to the Democrat play book of name calling and dehumanizing poorer Americans.

Which is why I’ve long maintained that the scourge of Trump and his populism had its way paved for it by well-meaning politicians who simply didn’t have the willingness to read the room as they tried to address immigration policy. They still don’t.

I’ve always wondered if Trump would’ve been able to get any wind in his sails in 2016 had the 2013 bipartisan Gang of 8 bill passed — but with the secure border triggers left in the bill. Sen. Cornyn, to his credit, made a valiant effort to put them back in after the working group had removed them.

Alas, the bill passed the Senate without them and then promptly died in the House.

Even with this most recent attempt at a bipartisan border security bill — the authors were like “OK, fine, we’ll secure the borders…but only if we can have a daily average of up to 5k encounters between Points of Entry.”

When I saw that, I could only laugh. They keep doing it to themselves. And they don’t seem to realize why it keeps blowing up in their face.
