Updated with the info that IU at least reached out to 6'6" Andrew Rhode, out of St. Thomas, a small D1 school. A freshman last year from Wisconsin, he's ranked #37 in the 247 portal listings.

247 also now shows a prediction of Timberlake to UNC, fwiw.

I totally agree, Lets face it too much easier to recruit portal in a short burst than the old way. Waiting for it all to implode at some point when interest wanes . Be careful what you wish for.

Ty posted the same as I was typing
I hate all this too. No matter how much I try, I don't enjoy/appreciate a transfer like Kopp as much as a TJD or Galloway.

Imagine being a high school D1 recruited player in the 50-200 range for rankings. I know of one kid going through it. On top of school fit, existing roster, and other high school kids being recruited, you now have to worry about some transfer taking your spot.

I know they need to compete, but it's different for kids like Gunn. You think your shot will come and bam, a couple transfers come in. Strange times.

Regarding Gunn....you can't get over him shooting 8.3% on his 3s. He has to understand that he can't be counted on at this point. He has to prove it.

I don't remember too many kids that went from 8% to 33-35% on 3s between their freshman and sophomore years. Not saying he can't, because he sure looked confident in the shot. It wasn't like you could see him hesitating....he always let it fly. His floor game looked ok. And people who watched him his SR year thought he was a steal. But you just can't rely on him right now.

You've got to think that he was hitting them in practice, because CMW allowed him to keep shooting them, so he must be able to hit them. Maybe he just gets sped up a little too much in games or something.

You hope it's something that will just magically take care of itself with a little more playing time. I remember Todd Lindeman back in the 90s. RMK once said that the kid would tear it up in practice sometimes, but was never the same player in games. It was obviously something that he never figured out in his career. Let's hope that Gunn gets it figured out in his Sophomore year, or he will take the same path that Bates, Duncomb and so many others did. He will self-select out.

Right now he's just taking a scholarship that could go to a guy who can actually shoot it when the bright lights are on and has a greater or equal talent guarding him...

Compared to Gunn, Bates was an All American... He's a weaker, much less accurate, much more likely to turn it over, version of him at the moment... Hopefully he'll get stronger, smarter with the ball, and regain his accuracy over the summer...

You'd have liked Kopp a lot more if he came in and led us to something. Trust me, UNC folks liked Brady Manek just fine!

I can barely remember his shot but I thought he had more of a straight line shot from deep than an arcing shot. Maybe mechanics are slightly different than HS and needs adjusted.

Thing is......unless you're a top 6-7 program or a program in the same league as the kid's old team, it's very difficult to recruit someone out of the portal who you didn't get to know through HS recruiting.....

Is Chris Ledlum a done deal.

Those are the years of the most improvement

It sounded like it last weekend but it has been dead silence ever since. And Dalton certainly does not seem likely as some on social media seemed to make it out to be. We still can get three more guys so it will be interesting to see any new names.

Writers hype things to get click baits. I wish they would tone things down until they really know. It gets fans stoked thinking about IU's chances only to be let down or outright duped.

Caveat emptor

Or maybe more appropriately
Caveat lector

An come on, you’re not suppose to be able to bid on a player.
Nijel Pack's two-year, $800,000 contract with Miami booster John Ruiz. Who was very open what it was for. How do you clean it up. What was behind doors is out in the open now. I don’t recall Ruiz getting in to trouble. Pack is still there

We have a pretty good shooter on staff. Ask him to work with Gunn. His name is Jordy Hulls!
