The Music Thread

If anyone sees this guy live ... do me a huge favor and throw some tomatoes at him and if you can smash his mic, do it.

TIA ..

No wake and no funeral for me. Just play this as my friends throw my ashes in the lake off the 18th Green at Victoria National.

I have reminisced here in the past about "headphone music." These were the songs that were so powerful and meaningful, that my dad believed you could only appreciate them by listening through the big ol' earmuff headphones. We only had one set, so we had to take turns. One album we always played twice so we could both get a turn at every song was Buffalo Springfield. Another one was 4-Way Street.

My first really serious concert and 1st trip to Assembly Hall was as a senior in high school to see Stills/Manassas.
Anyone who has never heard this debut album (or the follow up) truly has no idea what they're missing. 4 or more distinctive styles/flavors incorporated into one double album... Stellar guitar work, amazing vocals and harmonies- I've heard it referred to as CSN (Y) meets the Burrito Brothers...

Hard to listen to this and not move with the music...So much going on instrumentally and vocally...

As far as I can tell
The only game in town
Is a going down
And only happening right now

The Kid with the Big White Guitar works his magic...

If you ever saw the Peter Seller's movie "Being There", Sellers based his role on the experiences of his gardener (Johnny). Later he sold the house to Ringo, and then Stills bought it from Ringo. He also inherited the same Gardner that Sellers based the movie role on, and Stills wrote the song Johnny's Garden about the house he briefly owned...

Only time I can ever remember the term "frag" being used in a song. Vietnam era slang for soldiers throwing a grenade at their own officers, often while the officer was in the latrine...Anti war and anti-violence...

Used to be down to tear gas and clubs
What do you think about grenades
(You know like a frag)
Nonsense is as
Nonsense does
The judge's eagle promenades

Another song about Judy, So Begins The Task was written during the Deja Vu sessions, but didn't make the cut. Incredible vocal work from Stills ,and tasty pedal steel that may have been Jerry Garcia. Another fantastic Stills song...

I freaking love this song and I'd likely have never heard it without the Bruce connection to Jesse, and the fact that it was written about on Backstreets. Such a coup for Jesse to get Bruce to sing it with him, and the harmonies are perfect...

Was watching some reaction videos, and a reaction to this popped up. Probably haven't heard this song in nearly 30 yrs. Neil has written so many underrated classics, and Nicolette sounds wonderful...

Another reaction that popped up. This got me thinking about why Can't Buy a Thrill is my favorite Steely Dan album, and I think it's hearing David Palmer sing lead on Dirty Work and Brooklyn, as well as various harmonies he contributes which continued on Countdown to Ecstasy...

Another song I loved off of Tea For The Tillerman...

Circle back to Neil for some Live Rust...

Time for a new super group: Grohl, Lee, Lifeson!

From my early days at IU... Johnny Cougar, when he was running around and playing local spots in Bloomington...

Don't think I've seen this performance before...

Scarecrow is a great album...

My main memory of this song was local Indy radio (WFBQ?) playing it through out the day on NC Championship game day in 2002. It was like the ongoing theme of the day...

Sept 11, 2001...

The album inspired by a chance encounter that afternoon...

The magic of the album and the worldwide tour that revolved around it is best captured by the fervor of the fans in Barcelona and the show that was broadcast live all over Europe...

The song most directly inspired by meetings with 9-11 survivors...

Originally written about the decay of Asbury Park, but it took on a special meaning in the wake of Sept 11. Has come to be used as a rallying cry for people everywhere seeking inspiration and hope following a tragedy like the earthquake in Christchurch, and the flooding and devastation from Hurricanes like Katrina, Sandy and other catastrophes both natural and manmade...

The heroism, dedication to duty and reawakening of spirit described in The Rising

The celebration and life goes on ethos within Mary's Place...

And here's another "Kinks" song from that arse kicking "Sopranos" soundtrack. This one from the ending scene of the "Thanksgiving Dinner" episode. Nobody can muck up a supposedly joyous holiday feast like Tony Soprano🤣👊

Have any of you ever heard of Griffin House? Though I don't know him, he's from my hometown. He's a friend of multiple friends. I was invited to go see him next Wednesday in Columbus, OH but can't make it. I thought some of you might dig him, based on what else has been posted here:
