We’ve done the first part. It didn’t work out that well. We imposed too many constraints on top of being slow on some weapons. Biden didn’t even hint at negotiating. Trump is all in all that. In short, I think you describe what Trump intends. The quarrel is negotiating strategy.

I've never said that Europe's mix didn't include loans. Around 30 percent of Europe's total aid was loans but the President said it all was. Dumbass. You're also not looking at the link I provided. It talks about all aid, not just financial.

There is a sweet spot somewhere between too hawkish and appeasement. Where it is, I do not know. I respected Carter's desire to place human rights in our decision making matrix. A nation that respects human rights would be provided more leeway.

I’m unsure- we have been in bed with any number of dictators all around the world: the Shah, Marcos, Trujillo, Pinochet, etc.. We have supported many less than democratic leaders if it benefitted US business interests in the region.
