Steve Schmidt explains how the Republican Party became the party of American fascists

How many kids have you adopted?

You don't understand, because you've probably never left whatever state in which you live. I've been to 82 countries, including 6 weeks in Colombia last year. You want to see despair, look at Venezuelans prostituting themselves to survive across the Colombian border. Or buying a cargo container worth of Dr. Pepper at a huge loss to themselves just to receive US Dollars in Aruba. You really have no idea what is happening in the world. I've been all over Africa. Ever see a $1 Trillion dollar bill? You will in Zimbabwe. They sell them as souvenirs.

You're a fool.
Seems to me to be pretty dumb to be in the places then. I am concerned with what is happening in this country. Congratulations on being a world traveler! What does your carbon footprint look like?

Just to add to your example list you were having such a hard time reading . How about a health care plan so great Congress can't read it until they vote for it and it is so great that you are forced to buy into it or get a fine on your taxes. Which party did that?

Apparently you lost interest in Lyndon Johnson. Hillary was on talk shows talking about it , promoting her book.

Dimwit.

Don't presume to call me by a binary term either, Right isn't that the liberal thing to do?

She should stop complaining about it but she still conceded immediately after the election... Something Trump never did.

So yea, I wouldn't call someone else clueless when they were right.

If eliminating the Democratic Party means I'm fascist to their thinking then so be it. Mean while all our buddies in south America are lining up well with china because the current US regime can't negotiate with anyone except for do as we say or there will be consequences like calling people fascists or funding some wars around the world.

You mean where the country is now?

DeSantis and Scott would be great.

DeSantis drinks Trumps milkshake in Iowa. Word on the ground is Trump cancelled due to a smaller than expected crowd. DeSantis rushed in to fill the gap.

Solid jab by Ronny D. He’s got to be announcing soon.

@DrHoops

I have millions and millions of dollars in Yugoslavian Dinars and German marks from the Weimar Republic? You ever heard of the Weimar Republic?

My supervisor gave me Rupees after coming back from visiting family in India.

You don't have to be a world traveler to have an introduction to the world. My best friends mom went on a mission trip to Haiti and told us about her experience. You don't even have to own hyperinflated currency to know what it looks like.

You don't know what fascism is. Where is our reichstage fire or night of the long knives? How many state enterprises does the US government own?

Your definition could easily be applied to the left, the part after however is applying fascism to something unrelated.
You're one of the more clueless wingnuts to grace us, assuming you're not just the latest reincarnation of one of our past board far righties...There was no Reichstag fire or night of the long knives in either Musssolini's Italy or Franco's Spain.

Yet Benito basically created and defined modern day Fascism, and proudly named his movement and followers Fascist. And Franco mimicked Mussolini's example combining his own miltarism, empirical designs and fanatical (Christian) Nationalism to forge a coalition with the Catholic hierarchy to overthrow the duly elected government and initiate a bloody Civil War...

And what did Franco's minions proudly call themselves? Fascists. And who were their enemies? "Godless" liberals and socialists or anyone that supported the workers and supported the democratically elected Government. They believed like you do, that they were "God's warriors". That's what your rants remind me of, and that's why the idea of trying to label anyone who isn't right wing as somehow "Fascist" is outright lunacy...

Fascists revel in being characterized as "fascist"- it's how they self-identify. That was true in Italy and Spain, and it's just as true in 21st Century US. The Group that killed Heather Heyer in Charlottesville (Vanguard) proudly referred to themselves as "new American Fascists" on their own (now defunct) website.

Nick Fuentes emerged out of that legacy, as did the Proud Boys. Nick Fuentes doesn't dispute that he's a Fascist and a Christian Nationalist. Hell he doesn't even dispute that he's an Incel. He wears all those labels proudly...

Taken almost directly from the Generalissimo Francisco Franco playbook...

All of this occurred BEFORE Nick was Donnie's lunch date at MAL...

Another case of fascist where it basically means "someone I don't like".

I am going to save the gazillion links but Mussolini said fascism was a combining of the state with corporations. We just had an election in 2020 where an article in TIME magazine bragged about Corporate America working with the government and one political party in particular to wrest control of the government from leadership they did not like. Better watch where you swing the fascism bat because you might swing to hard and bonk yourself.

You and DANC are probably supporters of people like Paul Gossar, MTG, Mensa mastermind Tommy Tuberville...

Talk about coincidences... Just a week after the Allen shooter who extolled the virtues of Nick Fuentes and Proud Boys, and was inspired to even have a swastika tattooed on himself...

You don't get to just co-opt a very specific term for a political ideology and apply it to your political enemies. A key ingredient of Fascism is Nationalism, and empirical designs based on military power. Mussolini dreamed of restoring the Roman Empire, and consequently attacked countries like Ethiopia and Libya. Franco wanted to recreate the glory of the Spanish Empire, and IIRC was actually commandant of the Spanish forces in Morocco prior to leading the military coup that overthrew the Republican Govt.

If you want to characterize liberals, leftists, democrats etc in a demeaning manner that's fine. Just try to be original and for goodness sake don't tar them with the name of an ideology whose core principle is that the left is their mortal enemy. Fascists in Italy, Germany and esp Spain killed hundreds of thousands of their fellow citizens because those people rejected Fascism. Leftists are not Fascists, they are victims of Fascism...

Yeah DANC what are you saying? You don't want to be called a Fascist- go ahead and tell us specifically what you disagree with Fuentes on? I'm guessing he espouses more than one of the views many of you have expressed on this very board...

Not sure why you jumped in, my response was to the cultish ramblings of that cthulhu85 guy. He makes posts remarkably similar to anything one of Franco's loyal Fascists would have said, and none of you board wingnuts ever calls him out. So we can only assume that you all agree with him, since you never call his bluff.

Why are you so caught up on words? I asked the OP if he just got excited because he could post the word fascist ? He didn't answer. No one talks like that. Call it whatever word you want , authoritarian seems better suited because you are trying to conflate this into the times of the 1930's . I know you liberals love using big words that no people actually use in normal conversation. I don't GAF what word you choose. The democrats are the party of authoritarian rule jamming stuff down the people throats and idiots like you swallow hook line and sinker and don't pay one GD bit of attention to what they are doing. People like you are so caught up in your terms and words and think it makes you intelligent . Meanwhile you are like cattle being led to slaughter and you don't give a damn.

Pardon me for having more to do with my time than sit around on a message board and build and argument with Twitter links, a lifesuck I don't put any time into.

The left has to create boogeymen because if they didn't they wouldn't really exist because people are too busy living their lives.

Here's just one example.

So we've had a previous thread that dealt with defining Fascism. And I don't believe I've ever heard a more succinct and comprehensive definition of what embodies Fascism than this interview with Prof Jeff Sharlet from Dartmouth, who has studied Fascism for 20 yrs and written a new book which addresses the subject.

Sharlet points out a couple of key components that are obvious, but which I know personally I had omitted from my own characterization. The cult of personality is a pretty blatant and universal aspect of Fascism. But even more integral is the use of VIOLENCE, and not just the utilization but also the glorification and embracing of violence as a means to an end. Again both of those elements are straight out of the Mussolini/Franco playbook

Cult of personality and making a leader out to be a Deity? Here's a couple of examples of the kind of fanatic devotion that was pretty common in Italy/Spain circa 1940

Why are liberals so fascinated by trying to find words to describe everyone? I have a word that describes you perfectly but I can't use it on here.

Does it include items, like Male Chickens and lollipops ? Anything that rhymes with stunt? How about another name for cat? Maybe it's more simple, maybe like Uncle Mark?
Narrow it down for us please!

Libs have to define everyone and put them in a box because of their narrow thinking. It's the collectivist mindset. They can't understand reality so they fabricate their own reality.

They don't understand a world where people are independent and individuals making their own decisions without someone telling them how to think.

Take heed

Really? What label or name did I use?
You were talking about "defining" others, not naming or labeling them. That's why you specifically said, "Libs have to define everyone." That means giving a description in an effort to clarify, which is what you did in your post. You "defined" what it means to be a Lib.
In addition, you even used the label "collectivist", "narrow thinking" and others. So either way, your objections are silly.

Your insistence on arguing this point is hilarious, and indicates a major stubborn streak, or a total lack of self-awareness.

Define is more specific than a description. I said "collectivist mindset" which isn't specific.

I am plenty self-aware and I am stubborn. I am also well versed in the English language.
