So now what for Comer,Jordan and the others?

Problem is they still have no evidence that Hunter gave Joe any ill gotten money and there is also no evidence that Joe did anything for any of said ill gotten money. I still can’t understand how any foreign actor could expect anything from private citizen Joe Biden who wasn’t holding any government office. If I saw any actual credible evidence of Joe Biden corruption I’d be calling for his impeachment. There really isn’t any. Hoping that there is isn’t evidence. That’s where we are.
You don’t think Biden lies?

He hasn’t been deposed. Were the whistleblowers’ leads pursued? Can you share those findings?
I think I've said what I think about "whistleblowers." My experience and knowledge of them tells me that whistleblowers are more often wrong than right. They might be right, but what they said could be easily corroborated by talking to those they named said certain things to them, did certain things they claimed or failed to do things as they claimed. The Trumpster House members on that committee didn't do that so all we have are two whistleblowers who say one thing while some FBI agents, Republican FBI Director Wray and Republican appointed Weiss, now special Prosecutor, dispute everything they say. These whistleblowers are far from proof of anything.

The difference is that they work for the irs not the fbi. The others don’t. My experience with whistleblowers is that it takes a lot of courage to come forward and rarely are they making shit up. Not a great look for future employment

Of course, he lies. He's a politician. No one has lied more than Trump has lied in our entire Presidential history.

I don’t want Trump either. Acting like Biden is the high ground or a better choice is hardly clear. I’ll vote for trump unless Biden is switched out with Shapiro or someone like that

No, government whistleblowers are most often disgruntled employees or employees that are already in trouble themselves. It's usually an effort for revenge or to get themselves out of trouble. There are some actual whistleblowers that are doing it for the right reason, but it's not the majority of them. I sat through a couple briefs on this during my career. Congress loves them, but don't bother telling us when what they've been told proves to be false.

You can certainly vote for who you want to vote for. It's your choice. My determination, which has not changed, is that Trump is entirely unfit for the office. I cannot possibly vote for him. I couldn't live with myself it I did. He is in fact that bad as far as I'm concerned.

Let’s find out. They may be disgruntled. Happens all the time in employment law. But until they are heard and their claims explored we don’t know.

And I feel the same way about this batch of Dems. They are insidious and unfit

Haven't the two whistleblowers already testified before a favorable Republican committee already?

Show me evidence that they were disgruntled. Link the findings. Has an adverse action been taken against them?

By whom? A different agency?
By Congress. I don't know why they haven't called others to testify to corroborate what they said. Maybe they did and they didn't corroborate what they said. The Trumpsters wouldn't want us to know that. I'd guess they've been thoroughly vetted by the Special Counsel. They don't give us running commentary on what they're doing.

Or they are waiting until hunter is deposed

I have no idea if they were or not. I'm saying that is often a motivator for whistleblowers. Action against whistleblowers is never quick because they have protection against adverse actions until they're proven wrong and to have had motivation other than "doing good." ;) Once that happens, they can be fired, reprimanded, etc. Sometimes it's as simple as their perception of events is wrong.

I know how whistleblowers work.

Government whistleblowers may be a little different. I've not yet experienced any in my civilian life and haven't bothered to learn what happens if we have to deal with one.
Gov whistle blower retaliation claims. False claims act claims. If a decent sized firm does employment law they’ll have someone conversant in it. And obviously private.

This all might be trumped up. The whistleblowers. All of it. But until hunter has been deposed and everything vetted it’s premature. The lllcs. Bank records. What was claimed on taxes on and on. What the irs agents say was blocked. Why they were willing to testify. Their employment history. On and on and on. What msnbc says matters little. And sadly I don’t think it’s a stretch to wonder if Doj has been politicized. Doj’s deal with hunter evidences same. So get all of it on the record

You have a son who has tax evasion issues getting preferential treatment from Doj with two irs agents testifying that they were blocked from pursuing leads potentially implicating joe. With the amount the gov has gone after trump there’s a bit of hypocrisy to look the other way with Joe and the Doj

That he got preferential treatment isn’t a fact either. It’s an opinion. I’ve listened to plenty of conservative prosecutors who claim he wouldn’t have been treated as harshly as he has if he wasn’t Joe Biden’s son. I don’t care about him though. I’ll care if anything implicates our President.

really? the judge wouldn't do the deal. couple million bucks dropped to misds and a felony gun charge. it appears today the preferential treatment he received from doj was rectified with felony tax charges. and the irs agents testified behind closed doors this week too. the committee is also saying they have emails now between joe biden and hunter's business partner that apparently joe said he'd never communicated with.

my point is that you're going out on a limb to defend the bidens before we know the full story. might be nothing there. might be something.

"Fear of public ineptness is a good reason for the GOP to oppose Hunter Biden's request for his testimony to be televised."
And this gets us back to the original premise of this thread and what a lying idiot Comer is...

There are two seperate taped appearances of Comer on various right wing shows being interviewed and promoting the possibility of subpoenaing witnesses, ie Jim and Hunter Biden. Speaking offhandedly Comer clearly says something to the effect that "they need to come in and clear this up. They can either come in for a deposition OR appear before our Committee, THEIR CHOICE.

The video below contains both those instances as well as discussing what Hunter's lawyer (Abbe Lowell) said in his original reply to the subpoena. He directly refernced both Comer appearances and stated that in accordance with Comer's previous offer Hunter was notifying them of his intent to take them up on the offer and appear publicly before the Committee. Lowell further embarrassed Comer by spelling out the reason they declined the offer to come in for a deposition, the Committe's track record of lying...

Now Comer evidently forgot about these previous offers, because he is trying to now change his tune and demand a deposition. That makes him look like enough of a fool to begin with. But then he compounds his idiocy by trying to claim that the idea of a public hearing is simply something the HB team made up out of thin air, when as the tapes show HE (Comer) was the one who made the offer, and now is desperately trying to backtrack...

The letter threatening a contempt of Congress charge vs Hunter is equally farcical. It's signed by not only Comer but by Jim Jordan as well. Our Maga friends are likely unaware that Jordan established the precedent for ignoring Congressional subpoenas and threats to be held in contempt of Congress when he refused to testify before the Jan 6 Committee.

The reason people like Comer keep making fools of themselves is because they've been backed into a corner. It's largely their own faultbecause they've allowed the MTGs and Goetzs to set the agenda. Both are in deep red districts full of true believers, so they aren't in danger of losing their seats.

At this point depending on whether or not they hold the vote on a formal inquiry prior to Xmas break, the GOP has at most a 2 seat majority of people who might possibly vote yes on a formal inquiry. That number shrinks to a single person if they can't hold the vote prior to McCarthy's resignation.

And all of that presupposes that every single one of the 18 or so moderate Pubs who represent districts Biden won decide they are more swayed by the threat of a far right primary challenger than the problems they will encounter from Biden voters in their district in the general election.

So why is Comer putting his own GOP members (and moderates who basically gave them their majority) in such a dire situation? Having to publicly vote is basically a death threat for most of those Reps. Vote No and they lose to a far right challenger that will likely cost the Pubs the seat. Vote yes and they are the candidate who has to face a district full of angry Biden voters which again likely costs the Pubs the seat...

It's a kamikaze choice for Comer, forcing a vote which will likely doom the GOP's majority. But because of Fox News, Newsmax etc as well as crazy base voters similar to dbm,DANC,ftw etc... who are desperate for an impeachment which they believe will help Trump, he has no way to avoid holding the vote. And if one of those moderate Pubs joins Buck in voting no, then Comer faces the total embarrassment of losing outright.

Charlie Sykes, who is a conservative and former Pub provides an excellent analysis of this in this conversation with WAPO reporter Philip Bump...

Maybe your boy will get out of testifying before the House if he's in court on one of the 9 charges filed against him today.

No. No. No. I’m absolutely not going out in a limb to defend Biden. I don’t care if Biden is torched. All I’m saying is the facts just don’t support a case against Joe Biden currently. They might eventually, but it looks very doubtful there will be one. If that changes, let’s get him.

what i'm saying is you don't know the facts. it's premature

I know what we all know. We know what’s publicly reported. It’s not a strong case. If the Trumpster House members knew more, we’d know it too.
again hunter just got indicted today. he hasn't even been deposed yet. the irs agents testified just this week. you have no idea if it is or isn't a strong case. the media are worthless.

I’m not talking about Hunter. I don’t care even a little bit about Hunter - unless there is some sort of connection to our President. If there is we can work on torching the President. Just seems extremely unlikely at this point.

I’m not talking about hunter either. That’s how you find the connection. Like a building a puzzle. And if the pieces aren’t there they aren’t but you don’t know until you do the depos etc

Supervisory IRS Special Agent Gary Shapley and IRS Criminal Investigator Joseph Ziegler testified under oath that Hunter got preferential treatment. They werent offering an opinion.
That is an opinion given under oath. The counter opinion given under oath was from Wray (Republican) and others. Agreed?

Biden lied about Hunter and foreign money in every possible way. The money trail, the many single-transaction bank accounts, Joe’s alias email accounts showing up in messages to Hunters’s associates, the many LLC’s with no business purpose, and the “loan repayments” directly to Joe, are overwhelming evidence of Joe‘s corruption.
