Shitty coaching

For how long?? The window is shrinking due to his age. He isn’t going to be here long enough to build a program. That’s why I didn’t want him in the first place, that and because he has never coached a college game…ever.
Next year we will be in another short term rebuild year .
Five years is plenty of time to right the ship and set the table for a big hire.

bsmitty08, nx year we ill be better. Hopefully Ware, MM and Reneau stay. McNeeley fills a weakness. Cupps another and X gone, yes we should be very good.

Wow a level headed person. I give you two things that bother me. The behind the back shit by X And Ware not getting on the ground with Edey. You rarely see IU players getting on the ground scraping.
rebounding? offense? not getting a guard and shooter in the portal? And, I don't think it was Ware, I thought it was Gunn who didn't get after the ball. This team should be an excellent defensive and rebounding team. He always points at the guards, and that could certainly be better (heck Cupps is our best rebounding guard) but honestly I think the biggest improvement would be if you got Reanu to use that body and get after the glass. He should be a double/double machine, yet rarely rebounds with aggressiveness.

If the roster falls that way then we “could” be better. Still will need guards. I honestly don’t see Ware or MM back. MR could be back if IU out bids the highest bidder next year

It will not be a rebuild year unless Ware, Reneau and MM leave, they will all be better, stronger plus Newton maybe a portal or Davis and Haraldson things will be looking up.

don't think there's anyway Ware is back, just from reports. Think he was always leaving if he had a decent year, and in pro scout's eyes, I think it's been good enough for someone to gamble a first round pick on him. MM and Reanu should be playing college bball next year. Hope it's here.

no it was Ware, Yes Reneau needs to rebound more but its hard to get a rebound when you get triple and double team that falls on MM and the guards.

I think you are right but damn it would be nice to have him one more year with 14 more lbs in his upper body

I hope that does not happen but CMW is helping his players follow there dreams. thats what its all about.

I have to give you credit, you are the most optimistic poster on here.

And what if Ware and MM go pro. There is a chance that Newton may never be the player he was before the surgeries. Banks and Gunn have NOT made the sophomore jump, hopefully they make the junior jump.
Hard to imagine Queen and Davis coming here with the way this season has played out so far. Woody could not get a guard out of the portal last year - this year???

Exactly what about this team and coaching do you see that makes you believe?

They have played 5 - Q1 teams and lost all of them by a margin of 17.8. There is a real possibility that they lose the next three. IU has lost 15 games in the last 2 1/2 years by 15+ points.

We have a winning record but no good wins.

I'm talking mostly about defensive rebounding. Not getting triple teamed there! And it's been an issue all year, not just with PU.

I think we finish 16-15 in regular season maybe
17-14

Heck, I feel like there's a chance he never was the player many on here seem to think he was to begin with! He was a non-five star recruit. He'd likely be struggling to adjust as a freshman like most of them do, and not have been a huge impact except to add some depth.

Yep, I think the only certainty about next year is Ware is going pro and Liam is coming. Would imagine Galloway and Cupps back. The rest, who knows? If this season ends up being a complete tank job, an exodus could happen. Gotta turn this around.

I’m in the sunshine crowd, and still here. What we are seeing is the effects of Woodson’s biggest, and maybe only, mistake at IU and that is Xavier Johnson. Woodson has brought in talent and develops his players, but we are out a starting point guard because Xavier is a bonehead. Not only is our starter not producing, we don’t have a five star developing behind him. Now the season is on Woodson to make lemonade.
Hood-Schifino leaving really f'd this team. He would be the glue that keeps the pieces together - and the pieces are there.

Pretty obvious that Woody needs to lose his infatuation with height and concentrate on guards for recruiting.

The IU mob will kill anyone, including Quinn and woody.

It is easy to see, I called both Archie and Crean firings. If the mob wants you gone, you are gone. If we miss the tourney, the mob will want blood.
Unless this team does a complete 180, we are accelerating to a 17-15 type season. I see little evidence at this stage in the season to have any confidence of a different outcome. Too glaring of persistent issues. Some have suggested behind the scenes issues. There may be, but regardless, I think it's just a case of it is what it is and we are seeing what we get. A poorly constructed team that is missing a shooting guard. Poor defensive technique. Lack of on court leadership and poor coaching. It is what it is. Some is fixable such as coaching and defensive technique. Leadership is not going to change and shooting guard won't be happening either.

Yeah, I have given X the benefit of the doubt but man, he just can’t handle it. He took the bait last night from Edey and the refs had seen enough,..he got hammered twice on drives plus the shove from Loyer and the refs just looked the other way.

I am not making any more excuses for him.
This is exactly what I said following the Ohio State game. He played well that game and stayed within himself and dropped the entire flailing of the arms and theatrics Schtick. That game was an exception. Now, it's had the opposite effect. A classic cry wolf but in basketball and refs aren't buying it.

I think his minutes will be limited and he may say F it.

If he had left them in the way the game is going, and both get a 3 or maybe 4th foul .You would complain about that.
Even Woodson said that in retrospect he thought he kept MM out too long. Yes it's a risk but so is putting the team into a hole that was going to be nearly impossible to climb out of.

Ware and Mbako may go NBA but I expect they won't hear what they want at draft combine. Both are skilled and could be 1st round picks but will be playing G-League or sitting at end of bench. How much is JHS playing?

Ware reminds me of Christian wood. His defense is fine in college but the NBA will eat him up until he matures physically. He really lacks strength to play in the paint in NBA defensively and has a long way to go defending the perimeter at the next level. He can get there with his talent.

Mbako makes a lot of questionable decisions. At least his 3 point shot arrived and he is attacking the basket pretty good. He is often lost on defense and sometimes forces plays offensively.

Players like this do go to develop in NBA but I think having Woody and his NBA experience and the NIL money, may make their odds of staying better. Who knows though. Lively was garbage for Duke due to injury and has been the steal of the draft, IMO. I'd take him over any rookie except Vic W. including Holmgren. I just don't see Ware and Mbako picking up the NBA game so quickly. Not that NBA draft net is some guru of rankings but it has Ware at 26 and Mbake at 71. ESPN has Ware at 22 and I don't even see Mbako in the top 100.

Just not the last episode-too darn sad and so not helpful for the dreams coming true during game time.
was really hoping we were building a program of coaches and players whose "dreams" were B1G and Natl championships. And overall winning at a very high percentage. Re-earning the label "blue blood" that we once held due to current success rather than ancient history. Guess I'm old AND naive.

Well then that is a sad day.
Have you not been following all the cancel culture wars and people protesting over little things and calling it institutional racism? I agree race SHOULDN'T matter, but to hand wave it off and say it doesn't matter is naive or sticking your head in the sand. Bloomington is a liberal hotbed, and you only need one BLM leader to get upset over Woodson being fired to make a massive protest out of it.
