I disagree. I've been many basketball arenas and Assembly Hall is my favorite place to watch a game. I enjoy it more than any of the smaller places and also OSU, UD, PU, UK, and even UL though I do like UL's arena a lot.Unless you are a high roller AH is still a crappy place to
watch a basketball game.
I’ve thought about that as well. They’re going to have to do something on the exterior as well, because they removed half of the banners on the east side, and on the west side, the giant Indiana sign got ripped off, along with a banner or two.I wonder what they are going to do graphically along the sides and how that all ties in to new sections. Other has been there since grad a few years back and disjointed now. Wouldn’t mind a minimal approach (kind of like when they just had logo/state on one section, but really don’t care either way. I’m sure plan in place by now.
I think the addition to Assembly Hall is much ado about nothing. More bathrooms, check. A little wider concourse - not much. Interior improvements - none for the common fan. The clear plastic instead of the red stair guards is a wash - try to watch a game through one of those clear plastic things. Nice entry-way statues, though; although they could have been put outside the old structure. Escalators.... meh.The stadium is looking awesome. The addition to Assembly Hall is outstanding. The improvement in the athletic facilities is tremendous. Hiring Archie Miller was a home run. Hiring Allen as head football coach might just be a superb choice too. I don't understand your complaints about the stadium or Fred Glass. IMO he's doing a great job.
How about the limited number of bowling lanes in the Union? In my mind the big question is, after all of the stadium upgrades are complete, what are we all going to complain about next?
The Memorial Stadium SEZ, while an improvement in facilities, looks totally disjointed from the rest of the stadium and will not add one iota of improvement for the common fan - only the deep pocket guys. Which, I understand, is how the world works. OK, maybe a bigger video screen.
Agree. I like ours because it’s mostly focused on the student athletes, but also gives the fans something: the suite, the club area that will also be the dining hall for the athletes, the club seating, and the rooftop for families. It’s a great multi use space. We have everything you could possibly want as an athlete at the stadium. That’s a big deal.It does what it was designed to do:
Offer INTERIOR amenities for the student-athletes. Every recruit that comes through comments on the interior space and services. It wasn’t designed to be a fan attraction.
If you look at most stadium improvements across the country, they also are designed to cater to the heavy donors (suites and the like).
I took bowling at the union. Loved it.How about the limited number of bowling lanes in the Union?

Maybe it's because I'm poor white trash, but I'm totally unimpressed when a deep pocket donor spends a bunch more money on suites for themselves and their kind and puts his/her name on it. The recent Schwarz donation is the perfect example. If you look at most stadium improvements across the country, they also are designed to cater to the heavy donors (suites and the like).
Stick that abomination in Fred’s front yardthe bigger question on everyone's mind is "have they moved the flag pole yet?"
It was donated to honor veterans.Stick that abomination in Fred’s front yard
What I've always wanted to know if someone donates let's say $1 million or whatever sum for new treadmills that are needed. What happens to the money that IU was going to spend on those treadmills anyway. It could be a donation for furniture, uniforms, video equipment, etc. Where does it go?Maybe it's because I'm poor white trash, but I'm totally unimpressed when a deep pocket donor spends a bunch more money on suites for themselves and their kind and puts his/her name on it. Put it where it doesn’t obstruct the view of the playing field or the video board. Perhaps on top of that scoreboard or the entrance to the stadium. No one is questioning veterans, just the location of the pole.It was donated to honor veterans.
That doesn't mean it's not obnoxious. It was donated to honor veterans.
It appears to be close enough to the end zone that it could be a player safety issue. That doesn't mean it's not obnoxious.
I'm a veteran and I can think of many different ways they can recognize veterans without sticking an eyesore in the endzone.
But there are two videoboards.Put it where it doesn’t obstruct the view of the playing field or the video board. Perhaps on top of that scoreboard or the entrance to the stadium. No one is questioning veterans, just the location of the pole.
Weak argument, you had no valid point. But there are two videoboards.
Dude, it’s a pole. What exactly are you missing out on?Weak argument, you had no valid point.
But there are two videoboards.

Each video board will show exactly the same thing. That’s how literally every other football stadium in the country operates.I doubt the video boards will be showing the exact same thing.
Do you have more than 1 tv at your house? Did you install a flag pole right in front of one of them?
In your opinion, what makes the American flag an abomination?Stick that abomination in Fred’s front yard
The flag pole has been there for several years. It wasn't just part of the NEZ project.Put it where it doesn’t obstruct the view of the playing field or the video board. Perhaps on top of that scoreboard or the entrance to the stadium. No one is questioning veterans, just the location of the pole.
Thanks for that bit of well known data. Excellent input. In your opinion, what makes the American flag an abomination?
We were discussing the flagpole not the flag. But you knew that.

Do our fans actually go to other stadiums? I mean...
Geez. All this flag pole talk just sounds like people looking for something to bitch about. Of course I sit in the West stands but it sure does not look like it would block anyone’s view of the new screen. I did sit in the east stands for the graduation ceremony and the flag pole was nowhere near the new screen line of sight.
Just from observation I believe the new screen is closer to the field than the old one. It sure seemed like it when I was there for graduation. Maybe someone was smart enough to take that into consideration.I sit in section 28 and at least with the old screen, the flag pole was about a third of the way in from the left side of the screen. Not sure if the new screen is the same distance back from the field as the old one but unless it is vastly different then it too will be blocked by the flag pole.
When Fred Glass is talking before games on the screen, the flag pole usually blocks a line down the center of his face. The most idiotic decision to date in regards to the upgrades was placement of that flag pole.
If nothing else, its sheer size might make it seem that way.Just from observation I believe the new screen is closer to the field than the old one. It sure seemed like it when I was there for graduation. Maybe someone was smart enough to take that into consideration.
