Was going to try and resurrect one of the threads we had discussing the DeSantis/Disney flap, but it's too much trouble digging thru all the OT pablum and easier just to start a new thread. Essentially King Ron (being a Champion of "free speech") is a typical modern day free speech warrior (like Elon) who only believes in freedom of speech for people who agree with him. So he took offense when Disney spoke out and voiced opposition to his don't say gay law.

Now of course this isn't a "free speech issue", since Ron wasn't angry with Disney for opposing the law, but rather for injecting themselves into the conversation in the first place. (Ha Ha emoji)... Had they voiced support for the law he'd have been just as angry, because otherwise, he'd be a hypocrite;) At any rate, he "convinced" the FL GOP (aka State Legislature) to draft and pass a bill for him stripping Disney of autonomy regarding Reedy Creek...

Not sure if wingnuts "virtue signal", since I only hear right wingers accuse the Left of doing that. But I remember many of us pointing out that this decision would end up being revisited prior to being implemented, (for a variety of reasons), including the fact that a lot of GOP heavy hitters among the donor class live in the area and would be the indirect victims of any increase in taxes the bill would cause.
This always seemed more like a DeSantis pet cause than an issue the GOP itself was heavily invested in, and it appears that after the election the Legislature is set to reverse their earlier vote, despite Ron's objections...

There seems to be a variety of possible reasons for this abrupt change from the State Legislature, so it's hard to pinpoint a single reason. They might want to establish a degree of autonomy from DeSantis who seems to be more of a national Conservative figure who they figure will end up running against Trump. The return of Iger to Disney might be viewed as a positive development in terms of reaching a compromise, although Iger is also more definitive when it comes to LGBTQ issues. In fact Iger was much more outspoken in his opposition to the bill (as ex-CEO) than Chapek was as the then current CEO.

Or it may just be the fact that Orlando area residents would get struck with the tax bill, and the state GOP is not willing to deal with the internal fallout to play Ron's culture war games. It seems both the Legislators and Iger have a better appreciation for the mutual benefits of the original agreement, and GOP Legislators in FL don't feel the need to jeopardize their own standing to fuel Ron's popularity with donors and the GOP activist wing outside of FL who basically have no affect on them and their in state constituents...

The trial part of Warren's lawsuit vs DeSantis is now in court as well. Warren's legal team was not overly dismayed when the Court ruled that DeSantis didn't have to testify in person, so they must feel pretty confidant in the amount of evidence they've gathered thru depositions, texts etc...Here is a local news report from a couple of days ago...

I read until “don’t say gay law”. That’s more than I can usually stomach.
This cycle has been playing out for decades. Progressives pressure corporation, corporation comes out against government action that has no affect on their business, with no counter balance.

Cos is still having difficulty wrapping his head around the burgeoning counter balance.

Disney’s stock price is starting to understand it though.

Was Chapek incompetent?

As is the perform of their media. Their most recent release Strange World is set to lose $100+ million in spite of mostly positive reviews…
