This is a really solid recruit. The things I like about Phinesee: good at finding seams, finishes well with both hands, nice jump shot release, good control/patience with the ball, good handles, especially in changing direction- I think those things will all transfer well to IU's backcourt regardless of coaching style (since we haven't quite had a chance to evaluate that yet).
Weaknesses? Small size and stature, not a great athlete, maybe not Lonzo-esque as a passer, not particularly explosive… I think those things can hurt his numbers and playing time early on, but as long as he works on strength and speed and being a court leader- he can be highly effective at IU as a point guard.
Pretty good get. Remember that a cupboard full of 4-star players with a couple 3-star role players and one or two 5-star dynamos is the recipe for big time winning. Those may not all fit in the first year, but this has to be considered a very strong class for the 2018 year.
