Phinesee commits

Don't think you can compare Cronk to Phinisee as they are completely different situations. Phinisee was actively recruited by Purdue and chose IU. Cronk was never offered due to overwhelming incompetence by Darrell Hazell. If Brohm had been there when Cronk was in high school, he'd be wearing the black and gold right now.

You have absolutely no clue what Cronk would've done.

Would rather have Phinesee for 4 years than one year of Garland. It is funny that people use to say they rather have lower ranked Indiana kid than a higher ranked out of state player. People complained Crean couldn't get Indiana kids and now Miller has gotten two people still complain.

Well, I never whined he wasn't "getting Indiana kids" and I'd MUCH rather have Garland than this kid.

Great kids want to play with other great kids.

We get Garland and Romeo is basically a slam dunk.

Purdue has better academics all around...

What rubbish. The PU campus is for shiz, IU has ballet, theater and music departments that comparatively exist at PU in name only if at all, and the Lafayette gang's notion of evolution and ecology exalts industrial farming as humanity's gift to the planet. Real academics are so much more than purely academic, but hey, go for it.

The best two HS PG that I watched last season were Phinesee and Tyger Campbell at LaPorte LaLumiere. I am very excited to have Robert Phinesee at IU. I believe Phinesee is underrated nationally. IU now has 2 of the top 3 Indiana HS players in 2018, Romeo would be a clean sweep of the top 3! Another top 100 player, and another in-state Indiana All-Star added to the IU roster. For what its worth Phinesee is higher rated or equal to Hulls and Coverdale were in HS and they were great PG leaders for IU. Phinesee finishes at the rim really well and is a good floor leader, his teams win! 2 years ago the top 2 players in the 4A State Championship game were Phinesee and Romeo. Having both of them in the same backcourt at IU would be a real weapon for IU. Now get Romeo and Garland! Indiana home state roots are growing with Archie and his staff. Can't wait for the season to start!

I'd rather keep the spot open for Garland and Romeo.
Then what happens when Garland picks Duke and Phinesee goes to Pee Ewe or OSU? Meanwhile, we settle for whatever PG that is leftover. Sound familiar? Miller will get his 5 star. He won't waste the opportunity when he does.

Not a big fan of Phinesee. I think we can and should do a lot better but at least we're not dumpster diving anymore. If RP is ever the starting PG for an Elite 8 or even Sweet 16 team I'll fall over though.

This is a really solid recruit. The things I like about Phinesee: good at finding seams, finishes well with both hands, nice jump shot release, good control/patience with the ball, good handles, especially in changing direction- I think those things will all transfer well to IU's backcourt regardless of coaching style (since we haven't quite had a chance to evaluate that yet).

Weaknesses? Small size and stature, not a great athlete, maybe not Lonzo-esque as a passer, not particularly explosive… I think those things can hurt his numbers and playing time early on, but as long as he works on strength and speed and being a court leader- he can be highly effective at IU as a point guard.

Pretty good get. Remember that a cupboard full of 4-star players with a couple 3-star role players and one or two 5-star dynamos is the recipe for big time winning. Those may not all fit in the first year, but this has to be considered a very strong class for the 2018 year.

Archie is killling it! Love getting an in state kid.
I wouldn't say killing it. Arizona, Duke and U.K. are killing it. Landing 4 recruits and only 1 inside the top 100 isn't killing it. In my opinion 18 will be his foundation class and 19 he will hit some HOme runs

Agree. In a perfect world if RP is ranked correctly, he should probably be the backup on a top 10 team, but it's called roster building, something CTC was awful at. Plenty of room and PT if a Garland level talent wants to come. The only challenge I see is that we are still thin up front. I'd like to see him begin courting some post options and use at least 1 if neither Garland or Langford commit.

Exactly. Two of the recruits are decent, not great.

The other two are better, but not awesome.

Pretty good for his first year, but this kid is very underwhelming to me.

Meh.

Not only am I not impressed with him, I think this pretty much kills us getting Garland. I know some thought we had "no chance" with him, but I doubt that.

Is cool to steal him from Moo U's backyard though....
Thanks, but I'm fairly certain the actual coaching staff has a better pulse on who they actually have a shot with.

Garland is more than likely not coming here. We have a decent shot at Romeo.

We currently have the 6th ranked class in the country.

The 17th ranked PG in the country (and a Hoosier no less) picking IU is a cause for whining and dumping on him before he even sets foot on Campus?! Some really sorry posters here that can't even use PU allegiance as an excuse.

Bring it on RP - the Cream & Crimson welcomes you.

Some people will complain no matter what and nothing will make them happy.

Things are looking up. Seeing what we've got coming in, I'm already excited for the 2018-19 season.

If we're the elite school we think we are/can be, we shouldn't be settling for the 17th ranked point guard....the most important position on the floor.

You nailed it. For a top 5-6 all time program we should have no trouble landing someone a lot better especially when we have a starting spot available. Phinesee would be a great backup but if he ever starts on a FF caliber team I'll be shocked.

We are not elite right now and have not been for awhile. It is Miller's first recruiting class and has a lot of room to make up with these recruits. I guess some will never be happy no matter what happens. I know it is early but right now we have the 6th ranked recruiting class so some must think we are recruiting well.

it's the 6th rated class currently, though many 5 stars haven't signed, so it will drop. But it's still a top 15 class at worst. For a first year coach, that's pretty damn good.

According to the 24/7 composite the ratings are as follows; Thompson 101, hunter 51, Anderson 81, phinesse 100

Where are you getting your info? Or are you just picking the rankings that have Anderson and phinisee out of the top 100?

Where do you see these rankings? All 4 are composite top 100 players. I agree he isn't killing it yet but, he is off to a more than solid start. I fully expect a couple 5 stars in the 2019 class and maybe one in 2018.

I just went by rivals and hunter is only top 100 recruit we have based off them.
