Based on what? He’s barely played. Not saying he can’t contribute, but he’s really still an unknown quantity at this point.I see much more upside in Race.

I never saw Moore and Forrester play live They were unknowns coming in to IU from Pennsylvania. I've watched TJD, Franklin, Brunk, Phinisee, Anderson, and Race in scrimmages and in games.I’m sure you do. Just like everyone thought about Moore and Forrester last year. Remember the NBA talk?
Next year it will be another shiny new toy. Rinse, repeat with more 3 and 4 stars.
Forrester and Moore probably aren’t great benchmarks for success given that they’ve both transferred.
And I understand someone having rust to shake off after sitting, but that wasn’t rust. I saw a kid more fit to play in a mid major conference than IU. That’s nothing personal, just reality.
So he was playing all those games while concussed? What are you saying about our trainers?

Especially in-state players that many Hoosiers have watched play for several years, they are not a complete unknown. How they adjust to the B1G college game is not fully known, but their skillset is known coming in to the college game. Players from out of state who are more of an unknown to many Hoosier fans and then show very little skill at the college level have demonstrated their current ability at least in the college game. If they were a 40% 3Pt shooter and 80% FT shooter in HS or at another college they should be considered a good shooter coming in. If a current player shoots 20% 3pt and 40% to 50% FT, it can be reasonably understood that the 80% FT shooter is almost twice as good of a shooter as the 40% to 50% shooter. Incoming Freshman skill level is not a complete unknown. It’s always the new guys, the unknown, that’s going to be better than everyone we have. Next year you’ll be criticizing Thompson but bragging about the shiny new toy freshman coming in. The cycle of delusion never ends.
Anderson was an IN guy who was known as a great shooter and scorer. This time last year he was going to solve our shooting woes. Skills don’t always translate in a much faster game.Especially in-state players that many Hoosiers have watched play for several years, they are not a complete unknown. This debate was about who is the better player: Smith or Thompson. And that’s not even remotely close. Not even a debate. No discussion. The debate has never been whether or not Thompson can give us a couple minutes off the bench and average 5 points. Ever.A kid who hasn't played or practiced in nearly 3 months isn't going to come in and make an immediate impact. He was a night and day better defender than Moore, Forrester, and Fitzner. Speaks volumes. Nobody is expecting Thompson to average a double-double next year, but there is ZERO reason to think Race can't average 5-6 points off the bench and provide quality depth. Our front court went to absolute shit last year when Morgan came out of the game and that's because Fitzner, Forrester, and Moore didn't belong out there. There's a reason Race immediately took minutes from the two young guys after being cleared. Your assessment means nothing because you've proven time and time again that you have absolutely no clue as to what you're talking about.

I agree. Was very impressed with RT regarding his low post D. He also did a good job on help defense and overall has a higher upside than JM IMO. He has a long way to go on the offensive end to get to JM levels tho, be JM had a motor that just didn’t quitI was only thinking of the scrimmage because that was when he was in top form and playing with confidence. I think that player could emerge again. Yes, I am serious.
When Race locks down on the block he is much tougher than Morgan to back down. Morgan was a really good player for IU and all-around the best player they had, but in the area of holding strong in the post, Race was really solid, and I think that will be the first thing we see from him as standing out this season.
