Just when you thought Democrats could not become more stupid and irrelevant . . .

I've thought about this and how much of it has to do with wages?

$20 a hour now isn't $20 a hour 10 year ago or 20 years ago. That use to be decent money and now that barely gets you a decent apartment.

The dollar doesn't get you what it use to these days. A lot of my single friends are getting a second job just to get by, so they can live comfortably.

There are a few reasons for this now. More and more people are in business for themselves, meaning Etsy or online businesses, steaming services like twitch, onlyfans or YouTube. People have also started doing things like drive exclusively for Uber and Uber eats. I was talking to a driver in Chicago a couple weeks ago who says he makes over 1k a week doing it.

There are so many avenues for people to make money now that people don't have to go and clock in for a 9-5 with the way wages are now that I think is also contributing to our situation.
Right but we were talking about urban poor.

But yes for most people there are so many opps to make money now if you hustle

Really? You don’t see the inherent contradiction in these consecutive sentences?

“No matter what your circumstances are, you have the power within you to imorove [sic]. When you take that away from people by telling them they have no chance because of skin-color or anything else, you take away the most important possession they have.”

How can I take away from you something you have within you? COH’s sophistry in his old age has never been more transparent.
Setup: You have two groups and you send each group to separate rooms. When they reach the room, they are assigned a difficult task and given scarce materials to complete the task.

To group one you tell them this is an impossible task. They just do not have the resources to complete the task and you understand how hard it is. Failure is almost expected under these conditions.

To group two, you tell then to get it done. Failure to complete means failure to achieve a passing grade.

Which group do you think you will end up getting a better project from? Group 1 is what we tell blacks (in particular) and sometimes people from a latino background. Group 2 is what Asians and Whites have been mostly told.

You tend to get the results you let a person know you expect. We spend a whole bunch of time in our culture coming up with reasons why we expect less of certain people, so we shouldn't be surprised when our expectations are met. Every person, despite their color or wealth status has an opportunity to be something more. It is going to be "harder" for some than others. However, this is a generational game. The vast majority of us can travel back through time and get to the ancestor who set his/her family line down a new path.

I’m calling bullshit on this. W tried to promote stable families with fathers in the picture and he was laughed at. Trump pushed educational reform and was excoriated for hating teachers. Trump got through meaningful criminal justice reform.

The Democrats keep on by making ineffective programs bigger and screaming about taxing the rich all while causing urban chaos by defunding and diminishing law enforcement and accountability for criminal conduct. The Democrats have no intention of making Black lives matter or better. They just want Black votes.
W was doing his best dem impression. Lecture the problem away. And Trump is not a Republican. He is Trump of the Trump party. And despite his massive amounts of fault I've always given him credit for criminal justice reform.

How do you think the republican messaging to George Floyd, to BLM, to CRT to these republican state voting laws play in the eyes of the black community?
The GOP has many positive messages for the black community. But it isn’t heard for a number of different reasons. The whole problem is easily summed up by Biden appointing a conspicuous racist and white conspiracy theorist to be his spokesperson and receiving no pushback for that awful choice.

For decades the Democrats have called black Republicans every racist name in the book, again, with no pushback. But times are changing. Democrats calling Black Republicans “tokens” or the “Black face of white racism” won’t cut it much longer.

Both groups do equally well depending on individual differences. They have the power within them.

Neither side does shit. 9 of the top 10 states with highest poverty rate are red states. We know the issues with blue cities. Both sides could care less. Again the difference is dems act they care, they don't, while the GOP doesn't even pretend.
Prosecutors

I would invite you to read the attached about what some of the worst big city prosecutors are doing and ask yourself if the left really is doing what is in the best interest of our cities and their people.

Both groups have the capability of doing equally well. However, the group told that they don't, will not fully express that capability.

We, as a society, consistently and constantly deliver a message to particular groups that the game is rigged against them. It is too hard. They cannot win. Then we act shocked when they don't perform.

Y'all can fight over who is responsible for stuff like this, Dem or Reps, but it is likely both. As long as the federal govt. is stealing someone's money and wasting it for their benefit, they continue to think they are doing their job and babies will continue to be hungry.

I've already said they aren't doing shit to help minorities and the poor. What is your point? Choir meet preacher.

Yeah, I got the theory when COH first said it. It can go the opposite way you’re saying. Some people thrive when told something’s impossible. That’s your individual difference at play.

The basic premise of this nation is that we are born free and live in a free society. Having lived for years in Europe, I can attest to the power of being born and raised in the United States. This power and this truth undercuts the bullshit overlaid by insidious sources in our society perpetrating what you and COH are talking about.

There is no doubt that the environment, opportunities, and peers have a role in whether a given person thrives or suffers. Another astoundingly significant factor is drugs, in particular psychiatric drugs ever more frequently administered to young children, whether anyone here wants to confront that truth or not.

Many factors and I don’t think you can simplify it into COH’s bootstrap theory.

Yep. Prices have gone up $5-10 for a container over the past few months. Fortunately, Costco has the brand we use at a much better price.

My plans to buy a new car were delayed after seeing the cost of formula and what we pay our nanny. Still on childcare waitlists 10 months later.

You're right. Injustice, unfair economic policies, and discriminatory practices have never existed anywhere. I began with the same disadvantages as everyone else, and it's only been through sheer hard work and determination that I have been able to be even a little successful in breaking off a small piece of the American Dream that was promised to me back in the beginning. Screw those lazy ne'er do wells for not working as hard as me...we began at the same starting line, after all.
I don't think anything was "promised" to you or anyone in the beginning. The opportunity for you to seize any situation that was afforded you and prospered from it due to hard work is a great accomplishment no matter how big or small the piece of the American Dream you feel you have.

Self loathing has never been a great character trait to have when trying to become successful, pride and determination would better be served for every individual. If the goal for every family is for their next generation to be more successful and prosperous than the previous it would be a great start in making for a better America.

How about this setup?

A family adopts two pack-families of pit bulls. Group A grows up in the house with the family, fully fed, loved and supported. That pack grows to love the family, in turn the family adores the pack.

Group B lives outside with no shelter, just chained to a stake. Starved and abused by the family. Worse yet, as the inside pack grows they take the little space that the outside pack has. They grow up angry and distrustful. So angry that they are seen as violent.

The family recognizes that a couple of the kids are meaner than hell and can kill any other dog in a fight, so he enters them into dog fighting competitions. The kids start seeing some success so others now look at it as one of the few paths out. Even with success in the competition, the family still sees the dog as a vicious, lowlife animal. In return the dogs still hate and distrust the family and the other dogs living inside all their lives.

One day one gets too close and group B snaps at them, causing the family to freak out and immediately euthanize it.

Anyway, which dogs are more likely to have successful and happy lives? Which are more likely to trust in the family set up?
