This. I have a pretty tight friend group. All approaching our mid 40s. About 5 years ago one of our group had an aneurysm at dinner, went brain dead in minutes and died the next morning. Was the definition of healthy and then just gone.
We live in different parts of the Midwest. A couple live out west. But we make it a point to get together at least a few times a year. We have big dudes trip to Milwaukee in a couple weeks actually. Brewers Game, casino, breweries, Summerfest, and fried cheese. Dude stuff. We also setup a dudes chat. It's on signal and encrypted. Otherwise we would all be cancelled, fired and divorced. The shit we say in that chat... Anyhoo keep your bros and/or sisters close.
Love it. As I said in the last three years I’ve lost two friends from our main core group and my partner had a stroke. He’s okay but a little goofy. Has to Uber everywhere
I feel like 50 is some kind of weird marker where lots of people drop. You make it past that you’re okay again for a bit.
The chat groups are a blessing. And easy to keep going.
The chat think would be so great. Unfortunately, in both my close friend groups, there are only one or two others who would do it. The others hate texting, etc.
I think they need to start with a theme. Ours was a gambling and investment chat. We set it up during the COVID shutdowns. It's just our friend group but we wanted to give each other ridiculous betting tips, commiserate on our shared degen status and talk about what we were getting hammered on while sitting at home. It's turned into way more. We all post on it multiple times a day. Daily im crying laughing at work because of our group chat and the bullshit we are talking about. It's been awesome and has really proved something...that we are all massive massive degenerates. And that's ok...

You have to make an effort. My college teammates is incredibly active bc it’s centered around sport. A theme. Like you said. . My core group of friends is not. Maybe a little flurry once a week. Our law school crew of 7 is shockingly active. We’ve kept it cookin for 25 years
And the worst thing some woman somewhere did was go to Cedar Point with a handsy Goat.
