IU Targets in the Portal Discussion Thread (UPDATED 4/25)

I saw today that IU has/had reached out to Cormac Ryan, 6'5" 175 lbs out of ND (and before that, Stanford). 4 year starter at those schools, Has pretty good offensive #s (OE), but DE #s are quite poor. Anyone know much about him or if we have legit interest?

PS...#62 on ON3's portal rankings.

Giving a scholarship to Deloach would be criminal when we need 1-2 top guards who can shoot, penetrate and defend a little.

For to do anything in the postseason, we need better guard play.

I’ve seen him fill it up from 3 but he makes Kopp look like Scottie Pippen playing defense.

Let's say we get Ware, Ludlum to go with Sparks. If we could somehow get Dalton, THEN I wouldn't mind another shooter like Cormac who can come off the bench for 10 min and light it up.

But if we get Ware, we should not use a scholarship on Deloach. Ware/Sparks and Malik/Kaleb is enough for 4s and 5s. We need to focus on 2s and maybe one more 3 if we get Ledlum.

If you follow socian media, lots of optimism about Ware and Ledlum, and possibly Deloach.

The Deloach thing is puzzling. If we add Ware and Ledlum to Sparks and Malik, we don't need Deloach, who is an energy big who cannot stretch the floor. I pray Deloach is just an insurance play.

We need one impact shooting guard, and possibly two.
Sounds like you need to contact the staff. We already have 6 guards on the roster. Regardless of what you think of their abilities, you can’t pretend like they don’t exist.

I'm all about the portal, but pretty crazy that the portal is open before the tournament even begins. Schools like Louisville get a huge advantage to host portal targets while schools in the postseason have to simultaneously prepare for games.

Hopefully the IU staff is working hard on this because you would assume we have at least 3 openings with the impending departures of TJD and JHS, and likely 4 if Logan is gone as everyone predicts. IMHO, we need at least 2 impact transfers, if not three. We need 2 guys who can score, at least one person who can play the 4/5, and at least one deadly shooter (regardless of position).

I'll keep a running list of the targets, and where they ended up. If someone else has already created such a thread, let me know and I'll delete this.

To get the program to where we want to be, we need better options at the 2 and 3. That is undeniable.

Certainly seems puzzling to me but I guess we will wait and see what happens.

Maybe CMW sees something out of Gunn at the 2 & Banks at the 3 in practice to make him believe that they will be a significant factor next year. After all, he did see them in practice every day.

And perhaps one of the two freshman will also provide valuable minutes as well. Who knows?

This would be my ideal roster construcion:

5: Ware/Sparks
4: Malik/Banks
3: Ledlum/Gunn
2: Knecht/Trey/Newton/Leal
1: X/Gabe

I would actually prefer a true 3 guard lineup and not have to play Ludlum at the 3 (e.g. X, Timberlake, Knecht), but it seems the staff is set on Ledlum, and that we are only going after one more wing

Seems unfair. Schools make money from the teams- seems a little hypocritical to not allow the schools to pay.
But, maybe I dont understand the new ways very well.
Scholarships and other advantages they get from the schools.

A few more yrs and college won't be worth watching either. The money in sports is so out of hand. Look at ESPN and all the little league games they now televise...............do the kids get pd for that?

It’s an NCAA rule and it’s being challenged as we speak.

Why do we want Ledlum? I just glanced at his stats; below 30% from three and only 63% from the line.
He would be a three for us? Rebounder and defender? He did average 18 pts a game last year. Mostly up close? I have never seen him play.

Thank you for this post! Not much separating these kids, IMO. I want Knecht and maybe Ryan. I like the other kids too. No interest in the 7' kid now.

Saw on pay board someone mentioning LLP. Anyone know who that is? Or does it mean something else?

thick bodied kid who can get his own shot and can score. I think the belief is that he was really all Harvard had last year so he saw lots of double teams, and still managed to score 18ppg. His 3% is low, but again, he had to take them off the dribble and shot better in catch and shoot situations, which he is more likely to see at IU. No explanation for the FT%.... but, not that different than Galloway, either.

Ledlum is a 4/3 who can score. Not ideal for the 3 we need, but I'll take it. But if that's followed up with Deloach, it will be a buzzkill.

We need a guard (either a 2 or 3) who is athletic, can shoot, can score off the dribble at least a little and be a passable defender. From what our options are, Timberlake or Knecht are ideal, but it doesn't seem like Timberlake is interested. So if we can get Knecht, that would be great. That would leave one scholarship either for another guard who can shoot, or we could shelve it. But if we get Deloach, I fear the staff would be satiated and leave Trey as the starting 2.

Trey is a good player, but if we want to be a strong team, he is ideally a bench guy who plays 10-18 minutes backing up the 2 or 3.

Deloach make little sense if you go off what people say Woodson wants to do. You would think he would bring in a 2 or 3 guard who is athletic and can shoot.

Exactly. I get Deloach if IU didn't get Ware. But with Malik/Kaleb at the 4 and Ware/Sparks at the 5, we don't need any more bigs.

We need 2 wings who can shoot, drive and defend, 1 if they get Ledlum.

Talk now that Dalton may visit IU. If we can get Dalton, I would love to lose out on Ledlum and instead get an athletic 2 guard who can shoot, and put Dalton at the 3
