IU Targets in the Portal Discussion Thread (UPDATED 4/25)

Woodson spoke to Rice transfer guard Quincy Olivari tonight. The 6-3 Atlanta product averaged 18.7 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 36.4 percent from three on 258 attempts. #iubb

Seems like we are recruiting expecting to have many openings
More like a competent staff hard at due diligence so as to be in a good position no matter the need.

Malik needs a 4/5 running mate too.

During his sophomore season, Sparks, a 6-foot-9 center, averaged 13.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 0.9 blocks per game. He posted 10 double-doubles this year, earning second-team All-MAC honors. Sparks has two years of remaining eligibility.

Sparks was named MAC Freshman of the year in 2021-22 when he scored 13.5 points per game with 8.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.5 blocks. He also earned a spot on the 2022 Kyle Macy Freshmen All-America Team. Sparks shot 70.3 percent at the free throw line as a freshman, but that number dropped to 52.5 percent as a sophomore.

Sparks, a Winchester, Ind. native, drew interest from Indiana when he entered the transfer portal after his freshman season, too

I believe he has said he likes IUBB and NDFB. But I may be confusing him with someone else.
I knew a couple guys like that at IU, friends of friends, and I didn’t like them much. I don’t understand being a student at IU and being more of a fan of another school over IU for any sport.

If he didn’t attend IU it’s more understandable. He’s probably a Yankees and Steelers fan too. ;)

That's why I detest living in Dawg country.... I hate these f---ing Bulldog diehards who root for either Duke or UNC in basketball... And then have the nerve to make fun of my IU apparel during FB season... Hate them all.

Did not. Had many friends that did. I was intrigued by McGinnis and Bubbles Harris. No a Cincinnati Reds fan. Almost as tough as being a Cubs fan.NFL , not so much. Throw all the sticks and stones you like. It doesn't pierce my armor.I think Jesus said it best-let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I like IU basketball so I guess that demands tar and feathering by the witch hunters.

I’m also a Reds fan. I was just ribbing you a bit. Peace.

Grew up in the SB area, you either love ND or hate them. Loved games in the old stadium during 70s/80s growing up. IU football just never been close or will I'm afraid.

79-74, 79-71.

Glory days indeed.
One thing I saw today. March 30th-April 6th is a "dead period" for in-person evaluations and official campus visits.

Given this, I wouldn't expect to see more commits to IU other than possibly Ledlum, Battle, or Timberlake in the very near term.

Could be Good replacement for Bates! Consistent scorer but not a great 3pt shooter at 31%!
Caleb Love is the least efficient scorer in a power 6 conference this century. Only player to take over 300 shots and shoot under 38% for 3 straight years.

But still an upgrade over Bates!🤷🏻‍♂️
Actually not with efficiency.

2023 Bates was 39% overall and 37 from 3, Love 38 overall and 30 from 3
Career Bates 37 overall and 35 from 3, Love 36 overall and 32 from 3

Basically same percentages, Love just shoots it a lot more and makes a lower percentage!!!!

I'm kinda tired of hearing about Bates shooting percentage on the year. Take away 2 or 3 games. MSU Nebraska and Jackson St games and he's below 30%. He had his opportunities, he wasn't a good shooter. He shot free throws well but never did enough to get to the line
And over the entire season Love was below 30% from 3 (and under 32% for his career) and many on here are clamoring for him!!!

I hope we get Love. Woody has good sets to run for guys like that, example JHS.
But X is a much better creator, why do you want the ball in Love's hands instead of X's?? Not a fan of Love's game at all, BUT if you take the decision-making out of his hands it HAS to be more efficient, right? If he is a secondary or even 3rd option as a primary ball handler I would be better with it, but I would not be good with him as the primary person trying to run the offense instead of X

I think the big difference is that (1) Love was guarded by the best perimeter defender each game while Bates was defended by a second stringer most times (2) Love didn't have teammates that could create their own shot, Black, Bacot, and Nance weren't more stagnant offensive players with little gravity on the perimeter - this created low quality shots for Love, whereas Bates wasn't "forced" to have to create such shots, his could come more in the flow of the game (3) According to most UNC fans, Hubert Davis was not tough enough on the players, he never tried to get Love to improve his shot selection, potentially out of necessity for the team to get any points.

Obviously, I am speaking in terms of optimism, none the less those are the points.
