If this is accurate, wow

Your grandpappy

Back in 1910 we went anywhere that there was feed and water for your horses, which was everywhere. Ain't no way we were getting one of those newfangled horseless carriages. You'd need places to buy gas on every corner, and that ain't never gonna happen.
Maybe it’s time to pull on the reins over this reluctance to accept new technology. Did you figure in “road apple” street pollution from the horse-driven carriages? I bet you forgot about the air pollution of horse flatulence piercing tender nostrils of those riding behind, too.

The car actually put some people out of work in cities. There was so much horse shit on the streets in Chicago and New York that every corner had a guy you'd pay to shovel the shit out of the crosswalk so that you could cross the street without ruining your shoes and work clothes.

I don't know if this has been independently tested, but if someone can produce an EV with 1250 mile range this is game over for gasoline. I suspect though this is just hype with no basis in reality.

You can’t overrule physics. It takes a given amount of energy to move any 3,500 pound vehicle 1250 miles. The source of energy makes no difference.

40 gallons of gas would do it. Slightly less with diesel. We can manage 40 gallons in a car. Electricity? I can’t imagine the size of battery that would take. We would need a huge breakthrough in battery chemistry. Moreover, where does the electricity come from to charge such a battery? The amount of electricity required for such a journey is constant. All we are talking about is how to store that electricity. We don’t have enough of it now.

But yeah, electric vehicles definitely have a place, and that is short-run urban errand running.

*I understand the efficiency argument. More efficiency means less energy is wasted, not that less energy is necessary to do the task.

As has been said many times in this thread... This is a hybrid vehicle that can appearantly go 1250 miles 'without refueling'. I'm guessing that means 1250 miles on a single tank of gas.

Strongly thinking about a plug in hybrid for my next vehicle. On normal work days, the 30ish mile electric range will more than cover what I drive to and from work. But having the hybrid side for anything beyond that eliminates the worry of forgetting to charge it and/or not having charging stations somewhere. Seems to be a perfect fit for me.
Charging station can be in your garage. That’s what we will do when we switch both vehicles to total electric.

BYD is the Chinese Tesla but it’s still made in china. Don’t believe any of this hype.

I have one EV, one hybrid, and one ICE car. Kinda works well as the EV is great for all traveling within 100 miles but we have the others for our long trips.
This is not to say that we haven't used the EV for a trip from Columbus OH to Indianapolis, it's just that, for now, it's less convenient since there are only a couple of Lvl 3 chargers on I-70 between the two cities, but it's already gone from 2 to 5 in the last year, so that option might start looking more feasible.

I agree though that I am not going to convert to all EV's until the range of a "reasonably" priced model is in the 400 mile range.
400 miles and it takes 5-10 min to charge.

I understand. The energy required is the same. So the vehicle needs a big battery and a highly efficient ICE. Using the ICE to charge while en route can’t work.

He should be concerned. It doesn’t mean that at the end of the day the vehicle won’t stink. But LMIC markets will gobble them up.

Some of the BYD’s I’ve seen are carbon copy ripoffs of Land Rover Defenders but with Chinese junk mechanics. These people are shameless.

The faster multinational companies pull out of Chinese manufacturing, the better. The amount of onshoring, nearshoring and even Asian transfers (Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia) is insane right now.

Yes I don't think you'll see BYD having any success in the US market anytime soon.... But they will be able to sell the shit out of these elsewhere around the world.

Let's see. They cost as much as German cars in Europe, so without their price advantage, let's see how many Europeans are willing to take the chance on cars from a country who's quality has long been a disadvantage.

My favorite car of all time was the 1987 Buick Grand National. I didn't have one, but my buddy's dad bought it--felt like a rocket ship taking off at the light and was a sharp looking car. Fast forward to 2023 and I rode in the electric Ford Mustang. Man, just lightening fast and helluva good looking car. Definitely the most fun car I've been in.

If I was looking for a toy--it would be that Mustang. Otherwise, until they can improve the distance traveled and the infrastructure to support the cars, I drive too much to consider an EV.

My brother-in-law is one of the senior VPs at Ford and the car companies would love to make a switch to producing all electric due to how easy they are to make and assemble but the infrastructure and inconsistent regulations between states makes it impossible. It is going to be awhile
Hey either tonight or tomorrow night I’m taking the kids to a new pizza place. They only serve Detroit style. I’ve never had it. Good stuff?

Oh that’s interesting
They really grease up the pans and the corners especially are crispy edged deep dish pizza dough that is almost deep fried as a result. It's not deep fried, obviously, but that's the best way I can describe it.

AFA Jet's, we do it occasionally. It's much better than a dominoes or papa john type fast food pizza. They actually do an 8 corner version for a premium because people like those crispy corners so much.

We don’t have buddy’s. So this new Detroit pizza sounds like it has weird cheese: brick, provolone chihuahua, or cheddar.
Detroit style is better version of the place that used to be in the Gables, Garcias. Denser and less like toppings on a piece of texas toast.

Weird place that has fire Detroit pizza. Bad Dad Brewery in Fairmont Indiana.
I need to make it up there. We have a pizza place here that will have their beer on tap sometimes, and it's usually pretty good.
