Just for grins and giggles, what happens if we get another new athletic director who gets another new coach who goes three more years of no NCAA?Things will now be very interesting. I think he is safe if he gets to the NCAA tournament. Anything less will be very tough. Three years of no NCAA can't be tolerated really.

Glass is not going to fire the bball coach this year when he's set to retire in the spring. This all but assures Archie a 4th year to get things right. The next AD, however, is sure to cut ties with Archie if men's bball isn't in the tourney in year 4.
I know lots on here love to bash Glass, but I think he's done a good job on the whole. He has not presided over a return to basketball prominence, but virtually every sport at Indiana is in better shape than it was when he arrived, coaches across the board are a substantial upgrade since he arrived, he's leveraged B1G money to improve facilities across the board, the department is in good financial shape, and he appears to have avoided major scandal.
I'm not familiar with any potential internal candidates, but I'd like to see IU hire an out of the box thinker and someone with proven success at the AD level. I hope the search firm/someone on the search committee looks into Danny White at UCF. He's a Notre Dame grad with some familiarity with the Indiana context, and he has been a pretty incredible success as AD at Buffalo and UCF. He's a basketball guy who knows the importance of football. Interestingly, his dad is AD at Duke, one brother is AD at FAU, his other brother is the head bball coach at Florida, and his sister is assistant AD at SMU - I bet Holidays are fun.
The AD never fires the Coach. The Board and President tell the AD to fire the Coach. Especially the Basketball Coach at Indiana.

LOL. Yeah, we thought Samson had learned his lesson too.Tom Jurich should be the call. Yes, he still has the Pitino stink on his hands. But he’s the best AD in the NCAA. He’d be watched like a Hawk at IU as well. The guy wins. And he wins A LOT.

This is Pat Krafts job to lose.
I'm not familiar with the name. Can't you help a guy out? This is Pat Krafts job to lose.

Thanks Rak. He appears to check a lot of boxes.https://owlsports.com/staff-directory/dr-patrick-kraft/474

There went Archie 5 year safety net. Looks like he will have to win now.Things will now be very interesting. I think he is safe if he gets to the NCAA tournament. Anything less will be very tough. Three years of no NCAA can't be tolerated really.
Maybe but the environment would be very toxic. That would be four years with no ncaa berth. I think alot of fans would be out for bloodI'd take money bets that Archie is around.. Even if he doesn't go dancing..
But I believe we will...So it's a moot point..

Does Glass' retirement assure Miller a 4th year? Maybe, but I'm not sure about that. With Glass retiring at the end of the academic year, that would definitely make the timing of a firing awkward.
That said, it ought to go without saying that Miller wouldn't survive 4 years without a tournament appearance. Good Lord, I can't believe I even have to type that. It's depressingly amazing just how far our standards have fallen.
Really, whoever is or isn't the AD, our men's basketball coach shouldn't survive 3 years coming up empty....particularly when you're watching what's going on at places like Auburn, OSU, etc. This nonsense that "it takes at least 4-5 years!" is nothing but an excuse to defuse, or at least delay, the criticism.
It doesn't actually take that long. It just takes the right guy.
Thanks Rak. He appears to check a lot of boxes.
What do people think? Should he be our next AD?

The Spring Semester ends May 8th -- and that's roughly when Glass will retire.
I think it's very safe to assume that, barring something unforeseen, Glass will not be firing Archie Miller. And, should Glass' successor even want to make a coaching change, the timing would be horrible.
So I think it's probably right to say that this announcement guarantees Miller a 4th year. But he was essentially guaranteed that by Glass already -- who said that it wasn't a "make or break" year for Miller.

I would agree, but if we don't make the tournament this year, there's going to be a lot of turmoil and pressure. Personally, I think 3 years at a school with the resources and expectations of IU is enough, but if you want to get rid of Archie, this is probably bad news, especially if we don't make the tourney this year.
I can not see any school hiring someone that they would "have to watch like a hawk" and especially a school like IU. The mess at UL came on his watch and the alum and academic priorities there are way different than at IU. We all like to see our teams win but let us continue to do it the right way and any one who does not agree with that goal do not bother to dispute me because you find me a poor listener. I am skilled at being unreasonable.Tom Jurich should be the call. Yes, he still has the Pitino stink on his hands. But he’s the best AD in the NCAA. He’d be watched like a Hawk at IU as well. This almost assures Archie a 4th year and rightfully so.
Thanks for the article. Do you know him personally?
