I have an idea that would allow you to truly "show" your bravery to all you meet in and make clear your resolve to never knuckle under to any stinking new public health standards...

Wear a button that says "No EMT Contact", "Do Not Transport", "Do Not Resuscitate/No Extraordinary Measures" (and get buttons for the whole family too)...

Ante Up... (and why not..., Nothing to worry about Right...).

No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service. Easy. If they don’t want to wear a mask outside we can avoid them. Inside we just add masks to the policy.

EMT’s masks not keeping them safe from me?

Edit: Btw I have my red and white IU Hoosiers mask that I feel silly wearing.

Unless they're wearing SCBA gear their masks aren't keeping them completely safe from you... Their tripling up with P100, N95 and 3 layer contact limiting masks can help to a large degree but they're not a sure thing..., as you most likely know...

I watched four young men get out of their car at Dollar General a few weeks ago. They were dutifully putting on their masks. They were adjusting the entire walk to the store. Whatever they had on their hands was in their eyes, Nose, mouth and ears by the time they made it to the front door.

But supposedly their cloth masks kept Dollar General employees safe.

What it did was limit the amount of the virus being spewed into the surrounding closed environment once they were inside the store. Which is the entire point of having everyone wear masks.

Unless we are all equipped with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (and trained in their use) no one is completely safe.

By wearing the best mask combination you can come up with than you're making a good faith attempt at limiting both the amount and distance that any virus coming from you might be launched into the surrounding atmosphere... It's all about limiting the "Viral Load" thus giving the other person a lesser chance of contracting it...

Those wearing them with the thought that they are protecting themselves are simply misinformed...

We wear them to protect others.

I have an idea too. How about putting this post under the 47 other threads about wearing a mask or not vs starting a new one.

Keep wearing it stoll. You get used to it. Although it’s going to be brutal this summer with the heat and humidity. I’m trying to find some that are more breathable.

Look at these progressive socialist fearmongers...

There is a lot of mask stupidity too. I see people wearing them inside of vehicles. Wearing them while bicycling alone. And why is a mask like this even a thing?

The valve masks need to have another mask atop them to actually have any serious value But..., literally almost Anything is better than nothing...

The concept is to knock down and slow the cloud of droplets that come out of all of us when we even breathe hard... Anything that limits that cloud of droplets in some way is a better than nothing type of good thing, in my opinion.

Edit: to your question, I think those double valve masks were aimed at ATV riders and originally designed to cut down on a heavy dust load... There's a bunch of them out there...

I agree about the concept. Unfiltered exhale valves are nothing but holes in the mask. Those masks are worthless unless you are in dusty conditions and want only to keep dust out of your lungs.

Totally agree.

They could perhaps be used as a base layer beneath a nonvented mask.

Ha. By the time summer is in full swing you’ll need to worry about West Nile virus so forget about the mask and look for mosquito repellent. Oh and stay out of the woods so you don’t get Lyme Disease. ;)

Speaking of ATV riders, I passed s group of about 5 side-by-sides yesterday up in Wyoming driving single file on the dirt next to the highway. Their dust cloud was visible for a mile or so. As I passed I asked my stoker how’d she like to be in the last one. Dust all over them and no mask. They were headed for a mountain bar that had about 50 of those things in the lot. A cheap one is about $12k. With more and more scenic areas off limits to off-road motorized travel, I don’t get the fun of them.

Unless you owned a ranch like spread of property and actually needed one I never did see the allure.

Hey don’t make light of Lyme disease! My buddy’s little bro got it. It’s a bitch!! Corona with a Lyme.

They’re for the uneducated, that’s why you don’t get it!

That is correct

It doesn't spew widely unto the air. Gravity takes it to the ground within a 6 ft radius. That's why social distancing is a thing. It's much more likely that a person constantly touching their mask/face will get virus into their bodies. Wear a mask if you want, but dont forget to wash your hands frequently.

But no, it’s not political. Not at all.
here's a video. no masks. 3,000 people. political? Or is this just not congruent with your republicans/trump bad narrative? just keep self-selecting articles from the liberal sites you follow and enjoy life in a bubble within a bubble. if you want out of your sorority house bubble and your bloomington bubble, it's a pretty day. come to the north side here in saint louis. you'll see tens of thousands of people walking around with no masks. All making political statements i presume? Oh and by the way, that's where the vast majority of our covid cases are here. there's blame to be placed on both sides, including trump, of course. but your endless one-sided placing of fault is beyond stupid and close-minded. what's more of course there are idiots making a political statement. but to harp on that while ignoring all the people not wearing masks for other reasons, myriad reasons, is absurd.

Here's a recent article about how long the virus stays airborne:

And here is one from Forbes basically saying the same thing:

“The researchers used a closed, stagnant-air environment”. Except for outdoor porta johns, crowded public transportation, and maybe some outdated indoor toilets, this environment does not exist where humans normally interact.

Masks also decrease blood oxygen levels in many people. Not a good thing if you are driving, exercising, or just walking.

Masks, like All decisions we make, need to be done after considering the circumstances. Dr Birx said today as we open up, we should s wear masks “where appropriate.” I agree.

Can you find where I said all? Of course you can’t. You don’t find it a little pathetic that a governor has to make a statement telling people not to shame others for wearing masks??? Ok then. Also I don’t live in Bloomington.
