Dusty May….

He has guards that can make plays and also get to the free throw line. Great spacing. Everything Woodson has no clue about. Guards win in college basketball. Duhhhhhh
That’s it? What did they run? Woodson has nothing to do with what I’m asking. Try again.

Good greif you doofus MF’ers can’t comprehend what I’m asking.
I know what you’re asking, but why don’t you first tell us what you’re seeing that isn’t moving the needle for you to have a positive judgement of May? And don’t tell us he reminds you of Archie Miller, because if you say that then you’re obviously not seeing things very clearly.

Not you too? It’s not what I think. People throw out “great coach” without saying why. These posters have a habit of that. Dusty is a great guy(knew him. My cousin great friends with his mom)Up and comer but he’s got one great season and one great run. This season isn’t over. Will you all say he’s great if he doesn’t make it past the first round? He’s running the same actions everyone else is. His guys executed.

Executes and beats high caliber teams with a lot more talent than he has.

We don't need Dusty May. We need whoever is coaching the Northwestern football team this year. I don't care that he's not coaching basketball. After the horrible scandal that the program went through at the start of the season, the coaching job that guy did is amazing. Finishing the season 8-5? Are you kidding?

He took over a mess and did well but he didn’t beat anyone any good this year. Game tonight is an exhibition. Kids transferring and sitting out makes the bowl games worthless

Based on nothing but current record and hype. Plus he once sniffed an RMK fart and that obviously gives him magical coaching prowess...

Yea, the guy is doing good, wish him well .. but not gonna crown him the next RMK for 1.5 decent seasons ..

They'll forget all about him next year when he starts losing again ..

I would say May beating power house programs like Arizona with a low major is something
They're in the AAC .. and was in the CUSA last year. WTF are talking about, low major?

You don't have to diminish them to make them look good. That's a bullshit tact to take.

A mid major, getting to a final four, being ranked two years straight, and beating an overrated Zona is good enough.. You don't have to exaggerate and call them a low major .. it's just not needed.

Bryant was a low major .. maybe we should hire their coach since he beat Dusty with far less talent.

Hmmm ..

Of course we know how that turned out, but unless you are gifted by God, prescient, and able to predict future events without error, or a basketball savant that can unerringly judge and predict coaching proficiency while sitting on a couch and watching TV, you (we) know as little about May currently as you (we) knew about Miller then..

/hmmm.

You do realize that Knight won 60 something % or less of his games like 13 times right? Should he have been fired? And Knight took over a team that won 70% of its games the year before he came. IU won 44% of it’s games the year before Woodson got here.

He has taken us to 2 straight tournaments and won at least 1 game in each. That’s not nothing.

Additionally where in the hell did basketball fans get the idea that every year should be better than the last? After Knight went undefeated in 76 should we have ran him out of town because he had a 14 win season? Or because it took him 4 years to win more than 22 games after that glorious year? Was Knight suddenly bad at roster management? The answer of course is hell no. Every player you recruit doesn’t pan out. Every year poses its own set of challenges and doesn’t always go your way even if you are literally the best coach to ever do it.

Woodson has won 20+ games and been to 2 tournaments in 2 yours. That’s after inheriting a very below average roster other than TJD. And he has dealt with major injuries to key players. Let the man coach!
And got shellacked
Without JHS.

Coach Woodson is not leaving Indiana anytime soon, but continue with your pipe dream.
I agree, and I never said we should consider hiring May anytime soon. But based on his current trajectory I am willing to consider May being on our radar in several years when Woodson’s time is up. Of course, that depends on how his career keeps going at FAU.

Good guess that Woodson will very likely retire within 5 years. So nobody least of all the AD should be surprised or not be thinking about who might replace him. I imagine he'd like to go out with at least a conference championship and a nice tournament run but time passes either way.

More talent at the guard positions. Johnell Davis is one of the best guards in the country and that’s huge in the college game.
He is the only one in their starting lineup I would say is more talented than our same position.

What are you looking for? They shoot better, they play better team defense, better rotations, make FT’s, rebound better…
What do they run? Sure they look well coached. I tell you though..in all seriousness I saw two teams that took a lot of bad shots at times. Neither one shot well from 3. The most frustrating player on the floor(should dominate the post) was Ballo. Sob couldn’t get a layup. That dude costs them.

Isn’t that what you want? A well coached team? We play like a bunch of individuals and do not look well coached.

You MF’ers still can’t comprehend. In no way has any of my comments been a negative or bashing Dusty May. I asked you both what he freaking runs. Crickets. I have a reason why I asked. Answer the damn question.

Why? Because they are winning the game? Any insight to what he’s doing?
This article is from last year. Not sure he's doing the same thing, but I'm guessing he is. Sounds like May values and emphasizes off-ball movement and looks to the European game. Ceteris paribus, I prefer offenses that run off-ball movement, at least aesthetically. I also think it's harder to defend.

“We’re not selling a vision, we’re selling a style of play,” May said. “I think players who enjoy passing, enjoy cutting, they enjoy playing in unison with four other players, I think they’re naturally attracted to us. And we’re attracted to them.”

All of this has created a perfect storm for FAU, who are a difficult team to defend on any given night. Don’t believe that? Take it from Mike Davis, Sr., who coached against FAU earlier this season with his Detroit Mercy team.

“It’s hard to guard the way they move, and if they’re making shots, they’re really dangerous,” Davis said. “Even if they weren’t making shots, they were dangerous because of the movement. You can never rest when you guard them [and] they’re moving and cutting. So, that gives them an advantage.”

This article says May runs a modified motion from his days under Knight:

May followed a similar script at FAU and also occasionally gets advice from other Knight pupils. Mike Davis, Knight's successor at Indiana, spoke to the Owls in November. Tom Abernethy, a starter on Knight's undefeated Indiana team and the father of FAU assistant Todd Abernethy, is only a phone call away.

May saw the offense evolve as he climbed the ranks at Indiana, eventually cutting tape and working on scouting reports. Those study sessions gave May a glimpse into how the motion offense could change over time; he said he has found success with a new approach.

“It's similar in that our guys making reads instead of just reading patterns,” May said. “We don’t run true motion, not like coach Knight. It’s not as clean and structured. Structured chaos would be more like it."

He does all that but what does he run? What sets ot actions did you see in that game? They move “some” off ball but it’s not a classic motion at all.

I only watched the first 5-10 minutes of the game. You asked what does he run. I'm trying to help out there and advance the discussion towards basketball vs. posters ragging on each other.

I have seen different sets but why are you so hung up on that question? Obviously you have an opinion or something to share about what he runs

Still waiting on the answer.
The question is dumb. I don’t give care what he or anyone runs. I care about winning. May had a great season last year and they look great again. If he continues his success the next couple of years he should be one of the top candidates for IU.

And a clearly hampered TJD. He was struggling. Oh and X had 11 assists in that game.
It was obviosu without X (ball handler) on the floor, thats when Arizona took their extended leads. Coulda been different without JHS. Nobody wants to credit injuries when pushing their agenda. With X, I feel IU beats KU by 5-7.
