No. My hackles go up when those agencies or the military is dishonestly maligned. I’m for efficiency and effectiveness, not pure size of any government organization. If we can make any organization better while reducing its size I’m good. The military can only be reduced if the National Security Strategy including military expectations/missions is changed. The military is sized and equipped to fulfill those missions. I’m good with doing that if it’s the right thing to do. We could maintain military size and still eventually balance the budget. Entitlement reform is key.
What about the criticisms of the security state that aren’t dishonest? Or do you believe those don’t exist?

The military is the 3rd largest expenditure behind SS and healthcare, I think. And that doesn't include all the ancillary costs of our missions/strategies/expectations. Not sure how we get our financial house in order without addressing it.

The problem is the military is quite literally the only thing the constitution provides for of those three. Nowhere does it say the Federal government should secure retirement or provide the elderly with healthcare. That’s not in their purview but we attempt to do it any way. Disgraceful.
I don’t mind our military budget being 10x the next guy. I prefer it that way actually.
But there are major inefficiencies in weapons contracts that need to be addressed. The MIC oligopoly is robbing the American public blind.
We’re where we are and doing what we’re doing because that’s where and what our leadership wants us to be and to do. Without reducing or changing those requirements Congress can’t reduce the military’s size.
The Constitution requires an Army and Navy. But it doesn’t proscribe how much we have to spend on it, where or when we have to use it, etc.

I find myself in the in between. I think the Libertrarian belief that the U.S. creates more problems with its military than it solves is foolish and self-centered.
I’ve also had about enough Ukraine. Draw a border line. Create a a DMZ and end this shit. Putin will win some territory. Life goes on.

I've long said there needs to be a de-militarized eastern Ukraine, governed by Ukrainians, and a de-mlitarized Crimea, governed by the UN or some international entity, until legitimate elections can be held there.
Either way, there is no solution until the Russian military is withdrawn. I don't blame Biden for the continuing war - I blame him for being weak enough that Putin thought he could get away with it.
