The corner 3 Anderson made against UT Arlington was critical to the comeback. That was a very tough game as UTA could smell blood (literally in the case of Ro's busted nose) and IU was searching for answers without any help from Fitzner on a limited bench. In comes Anderson who did what you describe. He will be an asset. But he won't play until he can get out on a wing without leaving his feet. As others have mentioned, a liability on defense is tougher to justify for PT. He is a frosh. It is natural to see the struggles he has had, and honestly I dont think he was all that well coached in high school. Give him time.
I'll say one other thing about Anderson. Other than Morgan, he is the most physically capable player on the team with regard to withstanding the Big Ten rigors. I expect him to become a dependable shooter in the future.
I think he's got a ton of potential. When you look at the highlight films from HS/club he can handle the ball in the open court and get up and down the court. When he wants to, he can also elevate to get his jump shot off. With his height and athletic ability if & when he gains confidence as a collegiate shooter he'll be hard to defend.
I think he needs to get tougher physically. As I mentioned, he doesn't seem to be comfortable taking it to the basket. In 135 minutes of playing time he has shot 1 free throw. in 244 minutes of pt, Henry has shot 17. It's as if, in his mind, he's a 6-3 shooting guard. If he can get it in his mind to play like a 6-6 tweener, he'd be so much more effective.
I just hope he's fully open to coaching and genuinely wants to be an all-around player.
