CEO of United Healthcare gunned down in midtown Manhattan

No. Can't condone vigilantism. However, no one should be surprised by this and I'm betting more of it happens. We are becoming a neo feudalist society.
Nobody went to jail for The Great Recession
Nobody went to jail for the lies told by cigarette companies
Nobody's going to jail for the opiod crisis.

Hmmmmmm.

Maybe some people should be put in jail to help turn the heat down?

She won’t try harder. She’ll keep the mask on and be disgusted by your capital W Whiteness.
There’s a great movie with deniro and DiCaprio called this boy’s life. A bunch of real funny scenes. One is when deniro is having sex she looks back at him and he tells her never the face. Sometimes back then when I was attacking my gf from behind and she’d look back I’d go NO NEVER THE FACE!!!! 🤣🤣. She didn’t think it was that funny

I’d love to hear a case for a civil suit against these universities that radicalize kids into woke violent criminals - tilting at windmills based on the insane teachings of blue-haired pronoun Tsars.

Ridiculous.
You dont think the top 1% owning twice as much wealth in this country than 30 years ago is a problem? I'm not saying it's going to happen tomorrow but history does tend to repeat itself.

Also this Luigi guy is just insane. He is part of the 1%. Went schizo somehow.

You’re moving the goalposts quite a bit. Neo feudalism to “a problem.”

The poor in America today are still better off than quite a large percentage of people on the planet and probably everyone from the time of feudalism, including the royalty.

If you’re really concerned you should be for smaller government and Bitcoin.

I’d also add the bigger issue is for the first time in American history a person under 30 is worse off than their parents. Now I would be concerned if humans hadn’t innovated and created the best money ever, Bitcoin. And we have Bitcoin President in office.

Um. That would be a problem(should I have said "the problem"?) and I said "becoming", which implies in the future.

And sure, everything is better today. You're a smart educated man who understands the nuances of a functioning society. Explain it to the angry mob with pitchforks you see someday. I'm sure they'll be riveted.

And yes, I'm exaggerating everywhere I can.

I lost my sister in June from Fentany od.....started on oxycodone as a patient following an auto accident.

She had no chance against Big Pharma...designed to create addicts(customers).

Yet the Sacklers are $Billionaire Pharma oligarchs.
Really sorry to see this Mas. I can’t imagine what that must’ve been like for your family. Truly a tragedy - sorry for your loss.

Apparently he had a manifesto. Hated the insurance industry. I can’t imagine his poor parents. Could have gone to law school and fought insurance that way. Ugh

Trying to plead insanity?
I don't think so.

Apparently, the McDonalds where he was IDd is now getting flooded with bad Yelp reviews (which makes me chuckle--who looks at Yelp for a rating on a McDonalds) and people are calling his lawyer and offering to pay his legal bills.

I think he's going to try to make himself into a famous and beloved martyr for the people.

So this is a thing. I was watching a video on instagram with the ceo of Arizona tea. Interviewer was asking how come his cans are still 99 cents. He said the co has no debt and is doing fine. No reason to raise prices. It’s his way of giving back. The comments are nuts. Off the list. Take him off the list. Safe. Skip him. Protect him at all costs.

The movie will be "Modern Day Robin Hood". As much as it is a sad commentary, it isn't new. The internet just makes it more visible.

Keeping this thread going. My daughter got diagnosed with crohn’s. She has to take humira. One carton. Almost $10k. How is that possible
That really sucks. And I know you make a great living and it still stinks. I really feel for the working class in this county dealing with any type of serious family health issues.

I have two kids with well controlled epilepsy, but we've definitely jumped through healthcare hoops. As far as drug costs, doesn't help that we (USA) subsidize the rest of the world in terms of drug discovery costs.

There is no case like that because it's not what the issue is. This guy was just insane. Learning to question and be critical of the system is not a bad practice. Being insane is though.
I don't think he is insane. What he did was wrong but he isn't crazy. We have this tendency to label these people as nuts out of hand and that isn't always the case.

From his POV (and unfortunately a greater percentage of the American public than most of us are comfortable with), he had a logical reason to do what he did. The issue is that things have devolved so much that the patina of civilization that the majority of us adhere to is showing cracks. Having an AI set up to deny claims (which can invariably lead to death and greatly reduced quality of life for people) is something that also comes off as grotesque to a bunch of people.

This goes back to an old logic question I have heard proposed w.r.t. the abortion question: If pro-life people believe that abortion is literally murder, why aren't you violently opposing abortion clinics? And the answer to that used to be that taking the life of these people made you no better than them. And for the vast majority of adherents, that logic has held firm. Someone who argued that type of opinion would be shouted down.

In the case of CEO's and corporate big-wigs, there is a narrative that these people are killing and enslaving you to make a buck. That narrative has gotten much easier to push since we have a bunch of people coming up who have a failure to launch and they need someone to blame and honestly can legitimately point to some stuff that does point back at corporations and elites and decisions made the past 30 years and find support for that narrative. It is a bad thing when people on both sides of a political aisle kind of shrug their shoulders (at a minimum) at an "elite" getting gunned down in the street.

I don't think this guy was crazy. I think he logic-ed himself into a bad decision. He didn't off himself afterwards. He didn't try to hide the murder weapon. He kept his manifesto on him. This guy wanted to get caught. He is going to be an anti-hero for a bunch of people, a modern Ted Kaczynski. I said before that we are nipping at the edges of some really bad stuff. Things can teeter back to normal or a flash in the pan event can turn everything into crazy town. We are in dangerous times and have wholly unserious people (all parties) in charge. That is a danger to us all.

It’s a little bit of a blessing as it “may” explain her frequent stomach pain that isn’t just always pancreatitis. So if this helps with that great.

For sure so many people are screwed. And I will tell you that people say ohh the poor can get on Medicaid. From my pi days I know for a fact how many doctors turn away Medicaid patients. Those people on Medicaid are super limited

Totally depends on the state. In NY, for example, Medicaid is arguably the best insurance around. Can see almost any provider and never pay a cent. It’s also why their taxes are so high. Around 55% of NYC residents are on Medicaid.

Really hate to hear about your daughter. Crohn's is a tough one to deal with. One of my young female officers (we didn't have any female enlisted) was diagnosed with that and it ended her Navy career. She was from the USNA and played volleyball there. I keep in touch with her on Facebook and she's married with kids now. Crohn's seems to be as under control as it can be.

Agree. The AI part is grotesque tho. Reminds me of the personal injury world. The insurance companies had this thing called Colossus that valued cases. Became a stupid game to circumvent it. Write therapist not chiro. Abrasion not bruise etc

Thanks! It sounds like it’s pretty controllable today

On both sides, to some extent:

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding in our ruling class as to just how bad things are at the moment. There have been some major issues that have basically been tabled for years now and problems unaddressed don't just go away. They fester and explode. We have a bunch of broken systems whose deleterious impacts are casting wider nets every few years. That will eventually have real consequences.

In another life I was a regular user of Colossus just on the other side of the table from you. We hated it too. That whole job was a soul suck.
