The 2 party system and primaries are a travesty. What a waste of time. The primaries and two parties have their propaganda networks to black ball these others. Somehow Trump broke through and the AOC/Sanders clan seems far different than the Democrats. Why do they have to go through the Democrat and Republican tracks.
Primaries should be several parties running against each other with the top 2 continuing on to the November, election. It should not be bunch of power hungry corrupt criminals that we see that control the 2 parties. You have the following as starters:
AOC/Sanders clan - what are they called - Progressives
Trump clan - Waht are they called (LOL) - populists
Libertarian Party
Green Party
Republican Party - Corrupt leftovers
Democrat Party - Corrupt leftovers

We are currently in a phase of absolutism that, IMHO, was popularized with Newt Gingrich saying conservatives shouldn't compromise any more, even if they agree as to most of a pending proposal. Now, both sides are doing it.
