Still TBA for game at MSU.

Now official—3:30 on Peacock.
Yup and Don Fischer just gained a listener for certain for MSU. BTN builds a network and brand but yet when 2 B1G programs meet in a pretty fine stadium and 1 team on a magnificent quest and they don't broadcast it. All those BTN channels laying there doing nothing because these Execs are some of the dumbest bastards to ever crap behind a pair of shoes. Astonishing. Why not enhance our $ value of a BTN subscription by keeping B1G games on BTN???

Rest in Peace Coach Knight . . .

It's pretty much consensus he was a great coach and a flawed person. It's obviously extremely common for humans to be flawed or complicated. There is nothing wrong with remembering the good side of RMK -- he was a great coach and positive influence for a lot of players. Every mention of him doesn't need to include a run-down of all of his faults and mistakes, everyone knows them.

Purdue Loses Exhibition

Purdue lost last year to Arkansas on the road in an exhibition, and they did not even make the tournament. Creighton is good, have a lot of shooters, and AA big man. Purdue is super young, and to go on the road and compete is a positive. Purdue has some talent, Painter will get them there. Jackobson, Cox, Burgess and Harris are going to be very! Purdue has the best guards in the conference.
Or maybe it’s as simple as Creighton had the audacity to actually guard Smith, and Loyer and TKR?

Four non football observations

The good news is Memorial Stadium looks pretty good as-is and nothing major is needed. We are a long way from the days of the north and south endzones only having small bleachers. Yesterday, secondary market tickets were $35-45, which indicates we don't need a lot more seats. IMO, 1-2K extra seats (with great views) could cheaply be added in the lower corners and south endzone. When there is enough demand for more suites/premium seating, build it when there is a good ROI.

I agree ongoing renovations and upgrades make a lot of sense -- there are many things that can be improved. The challenge is the money used for the stadium could be used for players and staff, which is probably a better use in most situations, the stadium is only used around eight times per year. Almost all college stadiums are old with mostly bleacher seating.

Washington did a huge remodel to make their stadium (too) nice and comfy, but that has contributed to their athletic dept's pretty bad financial situation.

We should be using this moment to raise as much money as we can and get projects going ASAP, just want to make sure money allocated to the stadium has a good return for IUFB in the future.
Hack off the top 10 rows or so of press box side, and build an end zone to end zone multilevel facility that includes a big press box and suites, and fill in any remaining space with whatever athletics related offices and meeting spaces they might need.

At the same time, hack off 10-15 rows from the top of the stands on the other side, and build an upper deck. At the top of the new lower bowl area on that side, and underneath the upper deck, build an enormous, entire length of the fields concourse area. That has elements that overlook the field. But have the upper deck angled in a way to look like there isn’t much gap between lower and upper decks.

Close off corners of south end zone better with some seats. End result of all this being a stadium with roughly 55-60k seats.

1 season of playing in the stadium while it’s under construction. Maybe a 40k seat capacity in that season, similar to what Vandy is doing.

Mary Jane

Another, and more widely accepted meaning, is that “Mary Jane” is used as slang for marijuana, telling the story of how Petty was introduced to the drug by personifying it as a young woman.

Last dance with Mary Jane
One more time to kill the pain
I feel summer creepin’ in and I’m tired of this town again

Throughout the song, he talks of “killing the pain” with Mary Jane and using her to leave his tired old town for a while. With Petty publicly announcing his affinity for the drug, this meaning seems to hold more weight.

“I’m mostly just a reefer guy. It’s a musical drug,” Petty told Men’s Journal in 2014. “I’ve had a pipeline of marijuana since 1967.”

Cavanaugh is currently getting together a petition to make this the Indiana theme song.

Was surprised by this too but it's not all bad. Put this game on NBC Saturday Night in front of a juiced up MSU crowd and you're looking for trouble. Nice quiet low key game on a Saturday afternoon. Take care of business and then come home to beat the weasels.
MSU complained to the Big Ten that they have had too many night games and didn’t want more

Is this the BT's decision?

According to the Peacock website The Big Ten assigns teams as the season progresses...

Next week vs MSU on Peacock?……

Fox televises the league’s “A” game at noon; CBS keeping the 3:30 p.m. window it has employed with the SEC; and NBC broadcasting a prime-time game that comes on the heels of Notre Dame home contests. Fox will coordinate a game draft with the Big Ten office each year.

Fox/FS1 will have 24–27 football games in 2023–24, then 30–32 games each of the next six years per season . It also will air four of the seven Big Ten championship games during the contract.

Big Ten Network will have 38–41 football games in 2023–24 before increasing to a max of 50 games for the rest of the deal.

NBC will have 14-5 football games in 2024. That will include one championship game.

Peacock, which won the direct-to-consumer part of the deal, will have eight football games per season for the length of the contract. It also aired 32 men’s basketball games in 2023–24 (20 of them conference matchups) and 47 thereafter (32 league contests). That will include an opening-night doubleheader from the men’s tournament.

Pretty sure that most of the games are lined up in advance to each network prior to the season.

Purdue Loses Exhibition

Purdue lost at Creighton. Creighton is expected to be a top 25 team but a loss is a loss.

Oh oh, hiding games on a lesser network is a good setup for when the officiating scales are expected to be weighted.

I'm sure it's just to get subscriptions from a large and hungry audience.

I happen to have it, paid to stream it to watch Indycar and haven't canceled. There's little on it for me though. Fubo has far more college football. I first did a trial one recent year to catch one of our BB games.
