1. During game day, they talked about a specific football only weight room and someone stepped up with $1 million to help with that. They couldn't believe other athletes could use it previously. (for all you previous largest weight room in the country chest pounders)
2. Washington players were on the field warming up at 7am their time.
3. The field doesn't look good on tv. Big sun glare. Field needs changed maybe similar to Colts new field.
4. Really need to put a press box and suites end to end and quickly.

They need to do something about the tv slots. I felt that way about Rutgers at USC last night starting at 11PM. Thats playing a game until 2 or 2:30 AM. That’s just dumb. Same for a west coast team with a noon eastern kick. It might be small, but they should accommodate at least a little bit better in either situation.

I’m not looking forward to what season ticket price changes. lol. Almost certainly the free Michigan tix o got as a season ticket holder bonus appear to be headed for the dustbin of history.

The weight room and football facilities are still behind. They need a whole new setup.

Surfboard Fred had the gall to defend a shared weight room when asked about it a few years ago. Then when a real coaching staff is hired one of the first changes they demand is a football only weight room. Amateurs run the athletics department.

Don’t put lipstick on a pig.

Mom’n ‘em can be comfortable as hell at home watching TV.

Our stadium opened in 1960. It’s uncomfortable.

On your starting times, I posted something about this when the merger with the Pac 10 Teams were completed. Washington had a bye week leading into the game, but two weeks ago, They played at Iowa. Both games had noon Eastern Time kicks. So for two consecutive games, Washington had to travel to the Midwest for a 2 or 3 hour time zone change. That has to get old and disruptive over the course of the season. but that is the price of admission those Schools paid for access to the additional money.

Take this to the extreme. With a nine game Conference Schedule, You have 4 or 5 Road Games. At best in a nine game Schedule You could end up with 3 of your 9 games played in the Pacific Time zone. At worst, You could end up with 5 Road trips across 2 or more time zones. Certainly not an ideal situation.

On cue, the resident curmudgeon emerges from his hole to bash IU.
Even 8 - 0 does not keep you from spewing your vitriol.
I think you should show IU and that amateur athletic department and take you fandom elsewhere.

The good news is Memorial Stadium looks pretty good as-is and nothing major is needed. We are a long way from the days of the north and south endzones only having small bleachers. Yesterday, secondary market tickets were $35-45, which indicates we don't need a lot more seats. IMO, 1-2K extra seats (with great views) could cheaply be added in the lower corners and south endzone. When there is enough demand for more suites/premium seating, build it when there is a good ROI.

I agree ongoing renovations and upgrades make a lot of sense -- there are many things that can be improved. The challenge is the money used for the stadium could be used for players and staff, which is probably a better use in most situations, the stadium is only used around eight times per year. Almost all college stadiums are old with mostly bleacher seating.

Washington did a huge remodel to make their stadium (too) nice and comfy, but that has contributed to their athletic dept's pretty bad financial situation.

We should be using this moment to raise as much money as we can and get projects going ASAP, just want to make sure money allocated to the stadium has a good return for IUFB in the future.

Hack off the top 10 rows or so of press box side, and build an end zone to end zone multilevel facility that includes a big press box and suites, and fill in any remaining space with whatever athletics related offices and meeting spaces they might need.

At the same time, hack off 10-15 rows from the top of the stands on the other side, and build an upper deck. At the top of the new lower bowl area on that side, and underneath the upper deck, build an enormous, entire length of the fields concourse area. That has elements that overlook the field. But have the upper deck angled in a way to look like there isn’t much gap between lower and upper decks.

Close off corners of south end zone better with some seats. End result of all this being a stadium with roughly 55-60k seats.

1 season of playing in the stadium while it’s under construction. Maybe a 40k seat capacity in that season, similar to what Vandy is doing.

I can picture this, it would look good. On the east side, may want to take off the top 35 rows so the open air area overlooking the field is about ground level. The upper and lower decks would be about the same size. I don't know how this would blend into the north endzone (it's possible to do it nicely) or the cost/ROI.

I believe it's cheaper to build suites on the east side since it's closer to the ground -- basically build up behind the existing stand like VA Tech or Wake Forest did, they have stands similar to our east/west stands. I think that's what's coming next, a poster said there were plans for this pre-2020.

Fun to think about.

Regarding #3, IU just needs to rotate the field to run east/west instead of north/south with TV cameras directed north. When Memorial Stadium’s…excuse me, 17th Street Stadium’s layout was designed in the late 50’s, fossil-fueled Climate Change wasn’t anticipated, with its more violent days of radiant sunshine increasing in historic number, based upon the latest expert science of the day, meteorologically speaking.
