I think the best answer is the FDA:
Given the market structure, a shortage could be predicted reliably.
1. Resolution of the issues at the Sturgis facility should have been a priority issue for the FDA, not a bureaucratic morass.
2. The FDA could have immediately asked other domestic producers to increase production to minimize the shortage.
3. The FDA could have recommended label language improvements or waivers to that (import) barrier.

I have no clue what you are trying to even say. Releasing oil reserves is a mistake in my opinion. It did nothing to prices and we werent rationing so makes no sense to me.

That is going to be horrible this winter. I'm glad I burn wood and have plenty. Costs me a bit more to process and transport now,but I can sit back all winter and have no concerns about heating costs other than the destruction it will cause to the country, especially if we have a rough winter.

That's not realistic. Domestic producers were already producing at high capacity levels prior to the Abbott shutdown. Afterwards, they have been producing at 100%. It takes time to get new lines up and running and it isn't cheap.
Are you for government incentivizing Gulf Coast refineries to ship more diesel to the East Coast?
Are you for approving and subsidizing new pipeline and refinery capacity?

All these are normal operations for a steady supply of domestic oil/gas production…the exact things that Biden’s Jan 27, 2021 executive order butchered, which affects WTI prices and gasoline prices over time.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but according to the BofLM we have over 9000 unused drilling permits. So whose fault is it that these are not being used? The blame can only be put in one place in my opinion. And the oil companies aren’t going to open up all the sites because right now they’re making a lot of money unlike a few years ago when there was a glut of oil and they weren’t making the big bucks. Does/can the government get involved and force them to drill but then people would say that’s stepping over the line in controlling businesses. Congress won’t do anything about it as they are being paid by the oil lobbyists. I don’t have an answer like most people. For those of us who went through the ‘fun’ times of the gas lines of the 70’s it’s just another pot whole.
They aren't necessarily viable leases just because they are available and This administration has made it much more difficult to drill so while the lease may be available and sound all good, that isnt really the case. Biden just cancelled drilling permits in the Gulf and Alaska which would be much better ones.

There was a steep downturn in production during 2020, the first year of the pandemic / last year of the Trump administration, then there has been a steady recovery, such that in 2022 we will likely set all-time records for USA oil production.
The USA is a net oil producer. The USA only imports oil at all because the oil companies find it far more profitable to export oil than to direct it to the domestic market
