Where are you cutting back?

20 years ago whe my kids were little and were all dinosaur crazy, we had a great vacation in early summer at Dinosaur National Monument and surrounding areas on the Colorado-Utah border.

We have been to Beaver Creek both in winter and summer and it is a nice place, though I wouldn't put Avon as being as scenic, foody, and fun as nearby Vail and other CO mountain towns like Aspen and Steamboat Springs. It's nicely located, though, for a variety of easy day trips.
You are right about Avon. I am thinking about up the hill at BC.

Didn't feel like it at the time since I discovered my car had a cracked engine block and had to buy another one. But yeah, given gas prices, that would have set me back quite a bit more this year.

I'd consider just driving and getting AirBnBs along the way when you do this. We did that instead and it gave us more mobility when we got to where we were going and some of the places we stayed in were really cool. I think it was probably cheaper, too, although I had this dream of driving the RV.

Also, if you want to do a mini-version, you could fly into Rapid City, SD and rent a car and in 4 days hit Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park (not to be missed), Deadwood, the Badlands, and Devil's Tower. That's a really cool area.
We did that last year also. Think we talked about it here. Also stayed at mostly Air BNB. Then drove down to Yellowstone, Tetons, Park City and left from St. Lake City.

We don't every year. Have only been once so far and we opted for Universal this June as opposed to Disney. Universal makes it much easier (and cheaper) for a larger family to stay at a resort. We got a package for around $3000 that has a 2 room suite for 6 nights and 5 days of park admission. The suite has 3 queen beds. For a family of 6 if you try and choose a Dianey package they make you buy 2 rooms.

That being said, the Mouse is designed to get you in and keep you in their park system. If you have kids that range in ages, Disney is pretty good at having something for everyone in a small space. We've done Hilton Head. Have done the beaches in Florida. Have taken shorter trips to nature types of attractions.

Kids are the big factor though.
Fair, especially with younger kids.

The US has some incredible national parks that make for awesome and affordable trips. Utah big 5, Colorado, Yosemite, California coast, Joshua Tree, Tahoe, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, etc.

No. But why is that funny? I assume it must be since the Maga Morons are liking it.
I mean, it’s kinda funny. The liberal hippy feminists are their only fans.

It was more a joke at their (IG) expense not yours.

Summer vacas are important to the kids. I think. It's something they remember. I'd rather cut back on eating out to make sure summer vacation occurs. my parents were hoosiers (not the indiana variety). when i was a little kid my dad got fired from whatever job it was that he had at the time. we were all over at my aunt's house that night and my mom and dad, aunt and uncle, and one other uncle said F it let's go on vacation. my uncle had a getaway van at the time. one uncle made a bed by the back windows. my mom and dad sat in chairs. and i sat in a tire in the middle of the back. when it got hot about half way there my uncle pulled over and they took the door off the side of the van. we drove straight down the double nickle to new orleans with the entire side of the van wide open. dad and uncle got into a bar fight and arrested on bourbon street. released the following morning. then we continued on to Fla. Redneck riviera. I bought an alligator on the trip. later when we got home my dad flushed it.

summer vacas matter to kids. they make memories. the rest of being a kid is mostly a blur
That’s so true. My family mainly did the tried and true Florida at spring break, Michigan lake in the summer.. Went to NYC and Hawaii on a PU basketball trip ( see I was always a rebel). But the best memories and just enough of a taste for travel it stuck. Kids learn so much during travel too. I’d always want to come home and read about where we’ve been. When you do that west trip, hopefully they will want to. Lots of cool history from out there. I’m still reading about Crazy Horse! That thing is mammoth and won’t be done anytime soon.

In the 90s I saw an Indigo Girls concert at the Cincinnati zoo. I had no idea that they were lesbians. My wife had an album and the tunes sounded catchy. We had a baby sitter, it was summer, and outside. I was clueless, until showing up and noticing that my wife and I were the only non same-sex couple in sight.

Ok I actually barely know who they are. I guess I should learn! I am going to see The Chicks this summer. Does that give me my feminist liberal cred back?

Taking my semi-annual pie pilgrimage over Memorial Day.

Reminds me of an ad in the IDS by one of the sororites that have "Pi" in their names.

Computer date matching used to be a thing at IU in the mid-to-late 70s. It was kinda fun and a LOT of people did it. You got a list of 5 (I think) of your highest matches and then you call them up and arrange a meeting or date or whatever. Good fun and no one took it too seriously. Freshman year, we'd get the names of the girls and look them up the in the Freshman registry or Arbutus to see what we were working with. lol

The frats and sororities and even dorm floors used to get pictures and come up with creative ads to put in the IDS to encourage everyone to sign up. I don't think it cost anything.

One of the Pi sororities - don't remember which one - had a picture of them all holding a piece of pie and the caption read something like "Taste a piece of Pi". My hormone-driven self thought that was pretty suggestive.

Wow, you have your own Hillbilly Elegy!

The ideal is Florida October-May and (Maine, New Hampshire, or Michigan UP) April-September.

Though Mays are getting hotter. Too many 90 degree days already.
May thru September.... for me the ideal would be CO... west of I25

"PU basketball trip"? WTF?

Has anyone used Outdoorsy for RV vacations? I keep wanting to buy an RV/Camper but he prices have sky rocketed and of course gas is FUBAR right now. I think they will even deliver the RV to where you are camping??

I have a Roku on my upstairs TV and was never able to figure out how to get the apps (like Cinema HD, Ocean Streams, Kodi, Flixoid, etc) which has all of the pay service streams, but that was three years ago and I never use that TV anymore.
Aren't you actually stealing with some of those apps like Kodi?

For those interested, Hollywood made a movie sequel to McM's summer childhood vacation:

Retail sales report today was quite robust.... so doesn't appear the consumer is pulling back.

Are home sales down in your area? Seems like there's been a dip here the last few weeks.

Down? Not seeing sales drop. Market has gone from insane, crazy hot to just hot. Most things still go pending within the first week. But I sense a lot of the bidding wars have lessened. Which is natural with mortgage rates moving up by 2% in the last two months.

Also less than desirable homes are lingering on the market a while longer now.

It's actually 100% legal.

I believe it's because these apps don't store any content, they are web scraping apps that search for feeds from the public domain.

Unlike a Napster, limewire etc which was file sharing...there is none of that. With these apps you search for say '2000 mules' and it will come back with available streams that are out there.

It's more like owning one of those giant satellite dishes back in the day and finding the west coast feed.

Sports are a good example. There are web scraping apps that I can search for say the Reds and Guardians baseball game and I'll typically get three to four feeds that are available from the reds side and Clevelands side.

The moral question obviously is there, as currently most premium stuff is out in the public domain for this app to find and available to the user.

I justify by comparing it to the Spotify model. You buy the device (in this case the Amazon fire stick) and it's the stick that lets you use these web scraping apps.

I figured in a thread about saving some money it was pertinent.

From the link. Keep in mind there are a ton of webscrapers like Cinema HD. The developers of this specific and very popular one aren't updating it anymore so it will eventually die off:

'Although it is free, Cinema HD APK is a very safe application. It doesn’t have any malicious bugs that harm your device. Moreover, the content here is completely legal, therefore you don’t have to worry about getting tangled in any legal issues.
