We're # 27!! Woo hoo!!!

"wow just wow" is quite vague...can you expand? Why would you be an IU fan if you did not got to IU?

So their is not any fans that are below the age of 19? I grew up a huge IU fan, I played college sports and received a scholarship to play college sports and get a free education. So I went that path and now have two degrees. I am a lifelong IU basketball fan even though I played at another school(which I still follow as well)

I did not attend IU Bloomington but IU East but I was a fan of IU sports way before I went to college. I grew up on IU sports and I would take a fan who has been one all of their lives over someone who was not a fan until they went to college. There are plenty of kids especially from out of state that went to IU but could not tell you any thing about the history of IU sports so how are they better fans than people who has invested their whole lives on IU sports.

I have always felt that way because you can have passion for IU basketball without going to college there. Especially for the older generation where people did not go to college as much as getting jobs right out of high school or going to the military, Those people can have as much if not more passion for IU sports. I don't always agree with Dakich but the one thing I do agree with him is that when the IU administration started bringing in more out of state students it has hurt the university and the fan base. Those people out east did not grow up watching IU basketball and have the passion for it so the fan base is not as passionate as the people who grew up in Indiana.

Good point. I was an IU fan before I went to IU.

Where did you go and what sport...out of curiosity? You don't have to tell me but that stuff interests me. Some of my best friends played stuff in college (sadly, I wasn't good enough!).

@indianascout1991 is in all his glory today, someone tell him to STFU.

Hey there little feller, no hard feelings!

Also, going forward, if your "U" in "STFU" represents the word "up," you should not end sentences with prepositions.

As an aside, what is the origin of your name "GumbelsHairHat." I am guessing it has something to do with Bryant or Greg Gumbel's respective quaff?

Thanks for any thoughts and go Hoosiers!

They can be quasi-"fans" and wear IU t-shirts and buy random tickets outside of the staduim but they don't have any right to determine what happens with regard to the administration or the athletic department or the Board of Trustees or the president or the coaching staff. The alumni vote and contribute, ain't nobody else's business. Yeah, yeah, yeah...taxpayers...blah blah blah. You don't get a vote for being a taxpayer, you get a vote for being an alumnus/alumna.

I didn't go to Ball State or Purdue and I don't have any expectation of being able to tell them how to run what goes on at either of those places. So, yeah...I'll kind of go along with your question.

I think that's a load of crap.....and, as I said, I went to IU.

It's THE state school so to call them "quasi" fans, in a state where basketball is a religion, is beyond absurd.

Get over yourself.

Knock yourself out. Why is Indiana "THE" state school? What about Purdue and Ball State and Indiana State? Is it just because it is called "Indiana?"

What is the state school of Ohio? They have Ohio and Ohio State, which are both public schools. So is Ohio, since it doesn't have "State" attached to it, the state school of Ohio...similar to what Indiana is to Indiana State?

I guess I don't know the definition of "state school." I appreciate any enlightenment...

Thanks!

Please forward me any posts that iuscout sends out that are intelligent because I am tired of the drivel.

Will do.

Sadly, I don't think your avatar Darren Clarke (circa. 1995 wearing Pistons hat) made it into the field at Whistling Straights this week.

IU fan talking smack in football. Classic.

Yeah...hopefully our guys will be able to rise up and replicate that 1 win and 15 loss Big Ten record Purdue has amassed in the last two years (fortunately we don't play ourselves and won't get beaten by us like Purdue did the last two years).

Dude I could care less about Purdue football. Like IU in basketball, Purdue football has a pretty decent history to lean on and IU football doesn't.
Winning two games in two years having home feild advantage both times, when both teams were awful is exactly why I like reading your posts. Your so easy to please and you like to pump your chest out over not being as bad as a terrible team.
BTW. I have paid for the same number of IU degrees as you have. Does that give me the right to complain?
Also without the subway fans or casual fans that IU has, being in a basketball rich state. You would be Iowa. So enjoy running down what got you the notoriety you once had.

Thanks dude.

If you "could care less" it means you actually maintain a degree of care and could actually care less. If you couldn't care less, it means there is no lesser degree of care that you could maintain and thus actually do not care about that to which you are referring. From your tone, I am inferring that you do not care about Purdue football and you thus couldn't care less.

As a Purdue fan, why do you not care about Purdue football? I don't care one way or the other, it just strikes me as interesting.

Complain away about Indiana...everyone else that didn't go to Indiana seems to like to do so.

Thanks for the reality check though. I am sure Purdue fans can sympathize with feeling like Iowa and I shudder with empathy for you. That said, I still hope Purdue loses every game in every sport they play until the end of time.

Thanks for the lesson. I said what I meant. Yes I care about Purdue football somewhat. But no I don't care about IU winning a game or two when Purdue sucks. Perhaps if you call one of your old profs they can enlighten you about reading comprehension.

You should ask for help in your comebacks. They are at third grade level which is probably the level you peaked at.

But hey, enjoy your football season.

I really don't care because this is a message board. You might be better at grammar but I would kill you on college basketball and tournament trivia.

Doubtful...but I will take it under advisement.

Quick...tell me what years Ross Hales and Kevin Lemme were on the team respectively???

Tell me who won the 1996 national championship and who did that team beat. See I can tell you who won every national championship from 1976 until the present just off the top of my head and tell you who they beat in the championship game. I can also tell you most of the other teams that were in those final four as well.

As for your question those two played around 1998 but not sure

I think they both were a few years prior to 1998...like 94-95-96-ish but I'm not sure.

I don't know who won in 1996 without looking. That seems like a year when like Kentucky and Utah might have been in the mix toward the end...I could be way off.

UK won it against Syracuse and the other two teams were UMASS and Mississippi St.

I actually saw Miss. St in the first and second round of the tournament at the RCA Dome in 1996. That was the year that Princeton Beat UCLA in the first round so Miss. St got to play them in the second round after beating VCU in the first round.

I'm getting that mixed in with some year that I think Indiana played Xavier in the RCA Dome in the first/second round. In retrospect that may have been way before 1996, maybe the year they were a one seed and played Wright State in the first game like 1992-ish.

I remember in the other game I think that guy named Big Country was playing for someone...but he wasn't on Mississippi State was he? Was that Oklahoma State? I vaguely remember being at the second game that year and the lights went out for a few minutes. We probably ended up losing to Kansas like it seems we did every year in that era.

I am getting too old to remember that stuff...it's all running together...fun times though.

Why so bitter? Here with this crap and trashing IU on the GBI site.

We do thank you for the hysteria of comparing PU football history to IU hoops history. Oh, and without all of the non-grad fans, IU ....would still be IU. Iowa is.....well, just PU with better uniforms.

IU played Xavier in the first in the second round in 1993 after playing Wright St in the first round. I was there for those games as well and I have been to the tournament 6 times when they had it at the RCA Dome 89,90,93,96,99,03 Big Country played for Ok. St and played in the Dome in 93 and they beat Marquette in the first round but lost to UL in the second round.
