We're # 27!! Woo hoo!!!

4* out of 8 at a school that made it to one tournament in the 20 years prior to his arrival. He also got Winthrop to the tournament 7 out of 9 times.

You don't seem real informed. You may want to sit these coaching discussions out.

*one of the years they missed the tourney they won the NIT and were ranked 25th in Kenpom. That's higher than Crean has finished at IU in all years except for the time Zeller was here.

Sweet. NIT championship. I remember when Butch hit the game-winner v. Purdue in '79. Awesome times! Bring on Greg Marshall and let's hang another NIT banner!

Is there a "Ranked 25th in Kenpom During One Year" banner hanging in Wichita State's gym?

Boy great comeback....you just don't get it man.

Our retarded fans, like iuscout, pretty much ensure this fan base gets what it deserves.

Davis, Sampson, and Crean all had die-hard defenders until the very end.

So did the biggest a-hole of the bunch from 1993 until 2000. Losing gets you fired, as RMK found out, so maybe your wishes of CTC's demise will come to fruition eventually. However, what if they go 30-4 this year and make it to the Elite 8...just hypothetically...do you fire him after that?

Thoughts?

Obviously you cant fire him if he goes 30-4. I have seen enough of his coaching to know the 30-4 mark is very unlikely. This team isn't as good at the Zeller team and that team lost 7.

Awesome great for you to have season tickets!!! Congrats! Now for your preseason comment.....preseason! Preseason Preseason! Just look two years ago when we were preseason ranked and went 17-15. Last year 20-14...

Also are you saying you would take Creans records over Marshalls? If so you may have swallowed some dipshit kool-aid.

I am not sure what "dipshit kool-aid" is. Thanks for the congrats on the tickets. People that don't actually support the program other than bitching about it on message boards don't make any significant impression on me with their comments. Thanks though! Let's focus on football before we start worrying about basketball!

Also did Bob Knight make fun of you are cut you or something? Also I notice you leave off 92-93 season that we were elite 8 and BIG champs.

1993–94 Indiana 21–9 12–6 3rd NCAA Sweet Sixteen
1994–95 Indiana 19–12 11–7 T–3rd NCAA First Round

1998–99 Indiana 23–11 9–7 T–3rd NCAA Second Round
1999–00 Indiana 20–9 10–6 5th NCAA First Round

So.....7 tourneys, 1 sweet 16 in his final 7 years. 144-77 (65%)
Crean 7 years
2008–09 Indiana 6–25 1–17 11th
2009–10 Indiana 10–21 4–14 T–9th

2014–15 Indiana 20–14 9–9 T–7th NCAA Round of 64
Indiana: 121–111 (.522) 49–77 (.389)

Take off the first two years...yes two. No way he gets a pass to be last in BIG in year 3.
Record is 105-65 (61%)

#14 doesn't particularly disgust me. #1 three years ago longer than anyone else.

Other than that, 0 final fours from 1993-2001. 1 final four in 2002. 0 final fours since. Knight/Davis/Sampson/Dakich/Crean all have sucked for the last 20+ years.

Hey...one final four in 22 years is still better than Purdue!!!

What is your solution? You are the AD...who do you hire tomorrow that you can pay and that will come???
How do you put Dakich in that mix? He did the dirty work and then was told to take a hike basically.

I loved Knight...but other than the Sweet 16 year...whenever that was...they got the living crap kicked out of them in the first and second rounds repeatedly by the likes of BC, Mizzou, Colorado, Pepperdine, etc...

I was a huge RMK fan...I started going in like 1977 and have been going ever since. I did finally realize he was kind of a jerk about 5 years after they fired him though.

You need to direct your energy toward Indiana football for now...worry about basketball in a couple of months!

Obviously you cant fire him if he goes 30-4. I have seen enough of his coaching to know the 30-4 mark is very unlikely. This team isn't as good at the Zeller team and that team lost 7.

Some sort of natural disaster would have to occur for IU's record to be 30-4 after bowing out of the E8. That's not enough games.

Even if you reduce a couple non-con games to make the numbers work, it would mean IU went undefeated in the non-conf. and only lost 2 games in the B1G regular season. 27-2 at this point.

That's a top 2 or 3 ranked team.

Then they get bounced in the first round of the B1G tourney (27-3).

Then go 3-1 to get bounced early from the tourney to end at 30-4.

I would have fired Crean a long time ago, so of course I fire him after that.

I am not sure what "dipshit kool-aid" is. Thanks for the congrats on the tickets. Your support of the program is the problem. Constantly providing the AD with a stream of revenue (or even praise) for mediocre results removes any incentive for them to do better.

But by all means, go enjoy show.

With fans like you, I would recommend the AD fire the coach and not even hire a new one. Just let the kids go out and play and then run the cheerleaders out every so often for the William Tell Overture. IU could make even more money!! Think how awesome we would be then!!!!!

We have had mediocre results for 22 years (save the 2002 final four run). Should I stop buying tickets and get bumped from the list and consequently miss out on the bacchanalia that will come to fruition when we hire Archie Miller?

You are showing your ignorance by not thinking some of these coaches at smaller schools are not quality coaches. Miller and Marshall are both better game coaches than CTC. Look around and you will see most of the great ones came from smaller programs before they built their respective powers at their current job.

Bring on Archie Miller! I don't care.

Can we pay for it?

My wife went to law school at Dayton...I am pro-Flyer (I am just not sure you can propound firing a guy with the 14th ranked team in the country before the season starts).

Anyway...first things first...9-3 in football...book it!

Nobody said anything about firing Crean right now. Also preseason means absolutely nothing expect put pressure on Crean.

Crean is set up for a very good season next year. He is going to be here for a long, long time, unless he chooses to leave because of our insane and idiotic message board fans.

Which isn't happening because he's, you know, an actual coach and a grown up as opposed to an obsessed Internet weirdo.

Personally, I'm having more fun with Crean as our coach than I've had since the Knight years.

First, Crean is a good coach who, by the end of this season, will have had us in the 4 out of the last 5 NCAAs.

Second, his ability to get under the skin of our jerkiest fans is simply priceless. It's almost as entertaining as what Knight was able to do to the national media.

How are people "insane and idiotic" because they are tired of his crappy coaching, tired of his over-signing, which leads him to run off players to make room for them so he then cries non-stop on how young the team is.

The only idiots are the "fans" are the ones that spank their monkey to the Crean poster above their beds while taking joy he "makes people mad" than actually giving us a great team.

You have very high standards

For those who don't want Crean what would be your choices? Btw I don't think Stevens is leaving the NBA anytime soon.

In no order:
Marshall
Stevens
Archie Miller
Derek Kellog **I think he would kill it at IU.
Sean Miller....doubt he would leave Arizona
Jamie Dixon
Thad Matta
Shaka Smart

What do you think of Sean Miller almost taking the UMd job a few years ago? Is he really open to leaving UA or just angling for a contract bump?

If you live around here, the contract extension news with Miller made sense. People here are happy with Arizona's situation. That said, I still think Miller is a lifer at UA (absent a potential NBA move).

Thad Matta and Sean Miller? You are either the most optimistic person in the world or you're out of touch.

The civil rights play on a message board, classic! And you're ragging on him for being extreme? If he's mean to you again, are you going to call Obama?

That's what you took from my post? Classic

Agree. You still never answer the question though. Greg Marshall, Shaka Smart and Brad Stevens are not coming. Archie Miller? Stephanie White? Who is your first choice?

here we go again. ya, the universe is now void of coaching talent. Self was and up and comer like Crean but KU got it right. Billy Clyde was an up and comer like Crean but UK got it wrong. but they fixed it. they got the right guy the next hire but they didn't keep throwing good money after bad. they would have kept trying.

why, with its formidable bball resources, would IU stop trying?

crean, despite a nifty pre-season ranking, still hangs by a thread.

more scout logic: IU must settle for making the tourney half the time because our HOF coach tailed off at the end (while still making the tourney every year).

last line says it all. IU is still a basketball school. I have 22 millions dollars worth of evidence that suggests it is. cool. we'll all cheer for football and understand it's place. luckily majority of IU fans won't sit idly by while iu bball is just a top 40 program.

solution? you are funny, man. we'll do what schools do. hire new coaches.

again, for the millionth time, IU is somehow locked into being barely top 40 because the admin sent with Davis and Sampson? Why is that? schools don't hire coaches, evaluate results, and make changes?

you live in a very static world

Seriously what is your deal? You don't honestly think a job at IU and a top ten salary will get some interest from some really good coaches? Crean has been a coach 16 years....what you see is what you get at this point. As for Marshall, he took over at WSU and has went 204–76 (.729) with a final four and a sweet 16.....I repeat at Wichita St!!

scout wants bball to fade so IU fball can shine. debates with him will always devolve into him telling you about his IU degrees and how you should root harder for IU fball.

his reality tunnel is pretty narrow and hardcore. his gut says to love Crean and so he goes about finding any shred of evidence to support top 40 basketball. our tourney record after a tough stretch of coaches will be his calling card. he'll then claim that IU's money is not green and Crean is far and away as good as we can get. then he'll get into his degress, IU fball, yada yada, etc.

but in a broader sense he's teaching me about patience and how rigid the human mind can be.
