All aboard!

Cruise fares are at record highs. At least per Royal Caribbean's data. That new ship they launched has insane rates. Makes Disney look cheap
sort of a theadjack, but I don't know that I'll ever plan to go on another cruise again. I might go if it's a group thing or something other circumstance like that, but I feel like there are so many other things I'd like to do than go on a cruise.

I've had fun on the cruises I've been on (all in the Caribbean), I don't know what my hangup specifically is.

I’ve never been on a cruise. Was thinking of doing Disney at some point but no?

Just looked up flights to Miami out of Columbus, OH for that timeframe. The cheapest I found was $440. I didn't look, but sometimes flying into Ft. Lauderdale is cheaper. I used to have to go there for work semi-regularly and would fly into there from time to time. The drive to Miami from there isn't horrible.

Yeah west palm too. Typically Miami is the cheapest

The big plus for me is that you can cover a lot of territory (e.g multiple countries) without having to re-pack and unpack multiple times, and entry into the countries from the port is almost always hassle-free.

The negative is that we've been in ports where we wished we could have stayed longer, but you're at the mercy of ship time and the cruise itinerary.

If your kids are the right age I'd say go for it. Those are the only cruises I've been on and I enjoyed them. They have a few different age-appropriate kids areas where my kids loved to hang out. It's pretty good security too. You have to check them out with your wristband and pictures of your kid and the people authorized to pick them up pops up. They're hardcore about checking that too.

It was a nice mix of doing things with my kids and hanging in the adults only pool and bars. I'd say 8-13 is the sweet spot for kids' age.

I totally agree with this. On the first cruise we did, we didn't do any excursions and just hang out within walking distance to the port in Nassau. Big rookie mistake with young kids. Lots of sketchy people trying to sell you things with random bars full of 20ish somethings.

The second time we did an excursion at one of the ports that involved snorkeling and exploring the area - I could have hung out on that excursion for a couple days.

okay i might do one then this summer before my daughter gets away from me as she's 13 and turning 14 in sept. minion will be 3 don't bring him?

I like the free bags on Southwest but, man, they still have delay problems. I thought they had promised to upgrade their 1990s-era computer system.

Don't kid yourself... none of the other bargain carriers twenty mentioned are any better. Plus, you won't have to witness a fight on the plane.

I only fly Southwest and Delta. I can’t do the cheap airlines anymore. I have an image to protect and prefer being the lowest class citizen on the fight.

Delta or bust for me. If I have to stick with commercial, I'm at least going to fly the best of the worst!

I have been flying Allegiant, Frontier, and Sun Country to/from FL lately and have gotten a lot of one way tickets under 60 bucks, to Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver, etc. They nickle and dime you to pick a seat and take a bag, but it often still comes in at around 100 bucks each way if you pick the cheaper days.

Alaska Air to Hawaii was about $380 rt IIRC, and thankfully the bolts stayed in the doors. United was similar. My daughter took United since they accepted a boxed-up bike as normal checked baggage.

And you wonder why your neighbors aren't present! I couldn't even be acquaintances with someone flying Spirit or Allegiant.

Yeah we've got two driving trips on the schedule for this year, only one flying. I don't mind driving... Find it a lot less stressful and easier to pack. My wife hates it and wants to fly everywhere, which is bullshit since I'm the one who actually does all the driving while she sleeps/reads.

Mine drives 50% of the time b/c she gets carsick easily. But you can be rest assured I'd never be allowed to sleep during that.

We've done them with and without the kids. Tight quarters with kids in tow.

Crab prices should be plummeting anytime now with those statistics!

Seriously... Travel and leisure prices are still ridiculous right now. Bookings are still very high and resorts still crowded, even with high rates.

Don't check out Europe. Hotel prices are obscene in Italy, Spain and Greece.

I think these budget airlines have the most unruly passenger incidents. There's always the risk of a rumble. So many seem to be in a constant state of anger these days.

Do we have data on which sectors those jobs were added in? Federal and state government jobs have been the catalyst for much of the job growth during this admin. to my understanding. Robbing Peter to pay Paul.
This from the guy who wrote "you and him" in a a recent post.

GigGoo doesn't understand the rules of English, but he wants you to believe he understands the rules of economics.

Tell us Farva/GigGoo -- why do the mods on this board give you so much latitude? Are you related to some of them?

That's absurd. How do you think that is good for the economy in the long-term? An economy built on 71+% consumer spending isn't going to survive with people at Target and Walmart making $20+ per hour, particularly with the service level they provide.

I've been on a few. Think it's important to find a line that is the right fit. Celebrity is pretty nice. Wouldn't go on Carnival for free.

Carribean is ok, but most of the ports are lame tourist traps. Would like to do an Alaska one, or the Norwegian fjords look pretty amazing.

I like sitting and watching the ocean go by and have cocktails. Not into raging parties and buffets are gross. So has to be one that has good dining options. Not something I'd want to do frequently but I've usually had fun when I've gone

yeah tech is really suffering and growth seems to be industry specific etc. but 80 year old clueless biden and his far far left circle. come on you really think he did anything. it's him not doing anything that's helping. wait til the commercial defaults start coming through. getting away from remote work and forcing people back may help. the pain covid caused is still rippling
^^^^^^^^
Hey, everybody, mark this post and compare it to whatever they say is Biden's fault if the economy fluctuates south again, LOL.

Really? Maybe they have always been expensive. I just looked and the normal boats(not the new fangled SS Crab Leg) seems pretty affordable.

There are deals in Italy, even decent hotels in Rome. You have to invest some time in the search, and do it many months out.

Rome is gross though. I want Amalfi coast, Santorini, etc. Our hotels that we honeymooned at in Greece are literally 2-3x what I paid ten years ago (I looked at the receipts).

I guess I wasn't looking at Florida. I go to Colorado several times a year for work. Airfare to Denver is really cheap right now. Peak times are no worse than pre pandemic.

4 night Disney cruise Fort Lauderdale Bahamas is $3500 for two. Doesn’t seem too bad
