US economy adds 353,000 jobs in January

And you wonder why your neighbors aren't present! I couldn't even be acquaintances with someone flying Spirit or Allegiant.

I've taken them because our options out of Indy suck ass, so they are often the only direct options to vacation destinations. I don't really care, all flying sucks and whatever is marginally better about flying Delta or United is outweighed by the extra 5 hours it takes to get to my destination. Honestly haven't ever had any issue. Still will obviously take SW if it's at all an option.

and trust me it's not mcmansions. $650k for a 1,700 sq ft old ass house in a decent neighborhood where your chance of being carjacked is less. biden F'd the younger generation and poor people. perpetual renters
Biden did that? And the big banks had nothing to do with it?

Mark this post, everybody -- we'll see.

@mcmurtry66 can we get a ruling?

Have you compared prices from 2020 to today? There’s consequences to lockdowns remote work and endless spending

Who is everybody? You got a mouse in your pocket?

And what are we seeing. Even your blind dumbass can find realtor.com

I guess I wasn't looking at Florida. I go to Colorado several times a year for work. Airfare to Denver is really cheap right now. Peak times are no worse than pre pandemic.
Denver is Frontier's hub I think. Anywhere to/from Denver seems to be cheap with them. Always treated me well, too. My son years ago went on a Boy scout trip to Philmont (big scout camp) and flew Frontier an an under 18, unaccompanied. Well, don't you know, he then left his tablet on the plane afterhe deboarded. He called us right away, we called Frontier, gave then the seat number and flight number, and they mailed us his tablet. No charge, either.

Southwest. Midway to Denver. So damned easy.

In my area of Florida, a driver of home price escalation seems to be the well-off buying a second home to monetize ovia airbnb, VRBO, etc. or moving to a home with a mother-in-law suite to rent it out.

My neighborhood has 5 or so airbnb properties listed. Before last year it was always zero, to my knowledge.
And state legislatures in many places have voided restrictive covenants that used to prevent house owners from turning houses into AirBnB hotels.

Don't overlook Allegiant if you're flying to FL out of Indy. And sometimes Frontier has excellent deals from CVG.
Yeah I’ve done Allegiant a few times and been fine. I’ve had some friends get cancelled and then their flights don’t go again until a few days, since some of their routes are limited. I refuse to fly Spirit but I’ve had good luck with Frontier going to Denver.

Yeah, but if it's a two or two and a half hour flight you can deal with it.

Other than the seats not reclining, they're actually pretty nice (and newer) planes. And no doors have blown off mid-flight, to my knowledge.
My friend was so freaked out about that. The flight we were flying home from Galapagos was the same kind. She wanted to wait until the next day and get a different plane!

I’ve never been on a cruise. Was thinking of doing Disney at some point but no?
The biggest problem is the big ones with so many people and lines. I’m getting more and more impatient. I haven’t been on one in about 10 years, but going with a group of about 30 in March. If I get annoyed, I’ll probably just stay on the boat or stay until there aren’t lines to get on and off. The Disney half Disney World/ half cruise is a good way to find out if you like it. And lots of things to keep the helllion busy.

The big plus for me is that you can cover a lot of territory (e.g multiple countries) without having to re-pack and unpack multiple times, and entry into the countries from the port is almost always hassle-free.

The negative is that we've been in ports where we wished we could have stayed longer, but you're at the mercy of ship time and the cruise itinerary.
Yep. This last trip where we had to pack up every two days was stressful, and keeping track of everything , etc. Why I decided to try cruising again. I know I still like smaller riverboat type, but we will see about the big ones.

lines with kids sounds completely awful

I"ve been on a few flights recently, including back from SFO, that were fairly empty. First time I've experienced that since .... 2013 maybe?
Mine have either been packed or fairly empty. I know some places aren’t flying as many routes in a day so they can pack the planes.

Huh? Are you saying seats recline on an airliner? When did that happen?

When you fly to Minneapolis and it's zero degrees there, you find a few empty seats. Then when you fly back to FL and it 80 degrees there, every seat is full. :)

Yeah we've got two driving trips on the schedule for this year, only one flying. I don't mind driving... Find it a lot less stressful and easier to pack. My wife hates it and wants to fly everywhere, which is bullshit since I'm the one who actually does all the driving while she sleeps/reads.
+1

I've been on a few. Think it's important to find a line that is the right fit. Celebrity is pretty nice. Wouldn't go on Carnival for free.

Carribean is ok, but most of the ports are lame tourist traps. Would like to do an Alaska one, or the Norwegian fjords look pretty amazing.

I like sitting and watching the ocean go by and have cocktails. Not into raging parties and buffets are gross. So has to be one that has good dining options. Not something I'd want to do frequently but I've usually had fun when I've gone
Ugh Carnival is what the group I’m going with picked. I’m worried about it already. They go on it every year, but this may be my one and only. Alaska by cruise is the way to go. I sat on a heated chair in the spa with a glass of wine much of my free time there.

Message to MAGA:

"It is ABSOLUTELY imperative that you not feel confident about the future. America is a terrible place. It is falling apart. The economy is in shambles and your personal economic situation is a garbage fire.

"Darkness is everywhere. Living is anguish. All hope is lost.

"Only by embracing these America-first beliefs, and believing Trump is the one person who can fix everything and make life perfect, will you be able to declare yourself a true MAGA loyalist.

"So get out there, fellow patriot, and disconnect from Biden’s economy. Sell [your soaring] stocks, put your retirement money in Trump’s coffers, embrace the gloom. When it comes to Biden’s hot economy, remember this: Go broke or you're woke."

A recent poll shows Americans are complaining about not being able to complain about the economy as much.

I'm sure it'll be fine. Have the right attitude going in. Hopefully it's at least one of their new ships which don't look too bad. I went on one like 20 years ago. I was in my 20s and it was a clown show. But I was drunk the entire time and didn't care

Biggest mistake last summer was flying to Florida instead of driving. One 30 minute delay in Indy resulted in us getting to Florida 10 hours later than our original estimated arrival time. Could’ve f*****g drove to our destination in about the same amount of time and for cheaper.

I would agree there's a lot of feelings and perceptions playing a role, but prices remain elevated for a great many good. Energy prices (at least in the US) have fallen over the past year which has helped to drive down overall CPI.

But housing, cars, and other durable goods remain elevated. So, it's not ENTIRELY feelings. But I suspect many people who are better off than they were 5 years ago still don't believe this could be possible with Biden as president. I tned to agree with Marv, presidents to little to steeer the economy.

Let's face it.... when fuel prices are going up companies use that as an excuse to raise prices but when fuel prices drop they don't lower their prices.

I'm sure you were fair when things were surprisingly better than expected under Trump...
That's not the point, is it?

Blaming the President (whoever it is) for economic changes (good or bad) is hardly ever fair. They put a target on Biden for bad things beyond his control but don't give credit to him when things improve. That had nothing to do with Trump.

It's too much to ask that people leave the President out of economy discussions but they should. There's little a President can do about it. Congress doesn't have much control over the economy, either.
