Trump is going to cause genuine damage

NBC told me Trump is dumb to want the Panama Canal because water literally has to be transported over literal mountains for a ship to go through it...literally.
(Lack of) Water isn’t usually a problem in a rain forest. Mudslides were one of the big problems when it was built. But I do recall reports of hydrology problems over a decade ago.

Isn’t SecDef in there?
An . . . Yes he is.

“Overriding Disastrous California Policies. (a) The Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of Commerce, the Secretary of the Interior, and the Secretary of Agriculture shall expeditiously take all measures, consistent with all applicable authorities, to ensure adequate water resources in Southern California. Each shall report to me within 15 days on all authorities, including emergency authorities, available to ensure, require, maintain, or use infrastructure necessary to fight and prevent massive wildfires in Southern California”

This doesn’t authorize water the ACE released.

Why do you keep insisting this matters? Trump took credit for it! Publicly!

Even if he did not order it, and no one has said it was a mistake, his bluster and demands for action over thought creates an atmosphere where overzealous mistakes happen. This could easily explain Tuskegee as well. Act now, think later

If the release of this water was as stupid as the articles linked here suggest, his administration is responsible, no matter how this occurred. Obviously. Trump's level of culpability in the whole thing can never be zero, but it's worth asking how exactly this happened.

We don't expect our Presidents to order certain dams to be opened at certain times, etc. without others weighing in and advising, do we? Now, is it possible, Trump said "I don't care, just do it. Open those dams no matter what, I know what's best?" Yes, yes it is. But I think it's important to know if it is that or some admin miscommunication, foul up down the chain, etc.

As for him claiming credit, Trump would boast about his morning stool if he thought it would make him seem successful. Doesn't mean we have to pay it much credence.

Sounds very buck stops over there.

Releasing water meant for farm irrigation to fight wildfires that have already been contained doesn't seem particularly brilliant-adjacent, but I guess mileage may vary.

Somebody decided to release this water from these reservoirs while violating protocols. . The release does not follow the EO. Makes ya wanna start taking some depos starting with the person who turned the valve.

Edited.

Didn't Trump get elected because he says "to hell with protocols"? Maybe you should look up the word "disrupter".

Of course no one is suggesting Trump himself ordered these particular dams opened. The only reason we are debating culpability is because of how quickly CO.H pivoted from "this was a good idea" to "Trump didn't do it," moving so fast, he overshot it and landed on "someone did this maliciously to hurt Trump."

Speaking of malicious compliance, Hegseth promised to get to the bottom of the Tuskegee incident. Perhaps CO can direct our attention to who was fired/demoted/suspended for that.

It wasn’t a pivot.. It was spitball evolution.

The EO said the release must be “consistent with all applicable authorities,”
It is true, in history no one has ever said one thing with a wink and a nod.

What are "all applicable authorities"? Would tradition/custom be an authority? It seems unless there are laws, we would have a hard time saying it is an "authority".

Note with Tuskegee there were people immediately stepping in and saying it was a mistake (or malicious). Note it has not been said here.

I read the links. The release was sudden and without following any of the normal protocols accompanying a release of water. The manner and means of release is not part of the EO. We should expect the Army Corps to be professional in carrying out the EO. There is no other explanation.
What??

If Trump's order mandates that the U.S. ARMY Corps of Engineers must "release the water," do you honestly expect the U.S. ARMY Corps of Engineers to read between the lines, interpret, or look for non-existent footnotes??? No, Army units don't do that.

Why else do you think Trump is trying to use the U.S. Military (instead of federal civilian authorities) to implement as many of his policies as possible, so matter how silly they are? He thinks they will blindly obey him no matter what.

Example of Trump silliness:

Trump has obviously never heard of the Posse Comitatus Act,

and has always shown that he does not intend to obey any law that seems to restrict his whims.

Except of course when Trump famously told all the guys in the world to grab'em by the Posse Comitatus. (He's never been known as a brilliant thinker or a voracious reader.)

Nobody has linked this kind of order. If you have such a link, I’ll read it.

The USDA employees fired en masse by Trump administration have been reinstated, with full back pay. They were deemed to be essential after all. I hope that they demanded a raise to come back.

This has happened numerous times already. Fired air traffic controllers, fired nuclear energy experts (who also are in control of military nuclear material).

Doesn't that show how ham-handed the DOGE firings have been?

Zero based budgeting it sounds like. Most good organizations run this way.

Instead of going and asking for more headcount and an increased budget every year, the budget starts at zero, the theoretical headcount at zero.

Then you determine what needs to be accomplished and what resources both human and otherwise are necessary, and ONLY what’s necessary.

It’s a tremendous practice, I’m a big believer in it.

Theoretical is an important word you used. Nobody with any sense actually fires everyone first and then decides who needs to be rehired.

As the clown show continues, Trump ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to release billions of gallons of water from federally managed reservoirs in California, claiming the water would, among other things, help fight wildfires around LA. Of course, the water can't do that, because it was released into the Central Valley, and to get to LA, it would have to flow over mountains.

But lest you think this act was merely stupid, it could actually cause very real harm, since the water that was released was being stored for irrigation during the dry season, and farmers are now worried that there might not be enough water left for when they actually need it.

Let it be known Goat plagiarized

…Trump’s obstetrician.

Link for fired air traffic controllers?

Did DOGE fire air traffic controllers?

Nick Daniels, the president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, said that no air traffic controllers were let go during recent cuts, The Hill reported.

Though no air traffic controllers were let go, other essential FAA workers were dismissed, officials said.
