In 6 months or less. Just as they forgot about Afghanistan. Perhaps a little longer because it's on Europe's doorstep. Americans have a very short attention span. A lot of flag waving from individuals who could not point to Ukraine on a map. And no we should not enforce a no fly zone. I think banning Russia from swift is a serious error and the dollar's dominance will continue to be chipped away. American power is on the decline and we are moving to a multipolar world. With each additional sanction on Iran, Russia, etc they slowly lose their effectiveness as these countries will begin to operate completely in their own bubble. Be careful what what sow.

Afghanistan wasn’t consequential no matter how it turned out.

Ukraine is consequential regardless how it turns out. It will either reignite the Cold War (is that an oxymoron ?) and put pressure on NATO, or it will be the beginning of the end of Putin. I don’t think there is a middle path now.

What the world should hope for is that the demise of Putin‘s KGB kleptocracy leads to the rise of a more European Russia, in particular, one that operates by the rules and culture of the modern world.

Russia may be poised for such a green revolution. Problem is, from our point of view, Russian would rapidly regain its status as a superpower.
