Serious SOTU thread

I can't really do MSNBC anymore. Not even Rachel. The Presidential palace in Kyiv could be on fire, and they'd be interviewing fifteen people about how soon Trump is going to be arrested. I'm over it.
I'm thinking that's one reason Rachel has taken a hiatus. I think even she felt she needed to get away from the all Trump, all the time environment.

Two compliments: the speech was fairly nonpartisan.we haven’t heard that in awhile and was nice to hear.
Second: Kudos to Republicans who stood up and clapped on things they agreed with.
Everyone behaved like adults tonight. A pleasant surprise....

goat do you believe in the televised rebuttal? really makes no sense to me, why are only 2 parties allowed in the process? also causes more division.
Governor Reynolds isn't making a rebuttal, she's just rattling off "Biden is awful" talking points. That's all these "rebuttals" ever are, no matter which side.

And his tone throughout was excellent imo

Politics 101. Rather like the basketball polls/rankings. All that matters is the scoreboard . . . And Biden/Pelosi are likely to get a shellacking.

You might be a little quick on that. It was a solid speech with a lot of bipartisan support. Your reference to Pelosi suggests you might be stepping out of bounds, too, since she had nothing to do with it.

I bet you see a bump in Biden's numbers this week. Not saying it will be huge, but I bet it's noticeable.

Rebuttal claim: neither Biden nor Harris has ever visited the border.

2 seconds on Google...

I don't want to keep harping on how low my expectations were, but it really was a surprisingly good performance.
I don't agree with his take on inflation and how to reduce it; the oil release is a drop; but overall there was a lot to like for guys like me who have hated what I've seen from this admin thus far: borders, guns, police, prescription drugs, cancer, Putin, etc. And he himself sounded strong and sharp.

One personal pet peeve. Does he just hate Musk? Why doesn't he ever include Tesla? Is it animus or old gov beholden to Ford etc

I don't get the Tesla reference, but I did notice every single bit that you would like. I think I mentioned most of them in real time when they happened.

I'm such a f*cking dork.

I hope you’re right, but I don’t see it. I worry more about what Putin might do militarily if he thinks that’s a likelihood.
If the reports are true that Russian tankers are puncturing their fuel cells then what must their leadership be thinking and planning?

Those rebuttals are always horrible, and usually cringeworthy. Has there ever been one that's considered good and actually politically beneficial to the speech maker?

Tesla is a non-Union shop.

Musk and Biden are in a little feud. Mostly Musk on Twitter.

Well, damn. There was, I guess, a few bits of Democratic red meat thrown in there, but that was a very bipartisan, unity-focused speech. And he delivered it well. I wasn't sure he really had that in him. It was impressive. Lots of vague platitudes, as you'd expect from anything bipartisan, but still impressive.
Was it bipartisan? Or was it a lesson in what sanity looks like for his super-progressive non-serious democratic colleagues?

I bailed when he said to not see Covid as a partisan dividing line. I didn’t want to shop for a new TV tomorrow.

From what I saw, I don’t think he rose to the occasion about Ukraine. Announced stuff that the rest of the fee world already did—banning Aeroflot. And dip in to oil reserves? WTF is that? The rest sounded like he was going through a checklist. His delivery was fine.

Let’s leave our plan on not starting WW3 to those of us who have to live on this planet for 50 more years please.
