Realistic coaching list….

Some thoughts...

Woodsen has a $12 million buyout, he isn't going anywhere. If he is smart, basically go buy a backcourt plus a couple other kids and attempt to right the ship. Convince Ware to stay (though I think that will be hard) but go get a couple combo guards who can shoot.

Let's discuss Chris Beard... he has a hefty buyout plus had to make assurances he wasn't going to bolt. The issue he had (alcohol influencing him in a negative way) was not the first time that occurred, it was the first time it was made public. I know some people who know him... all said the same thing, his life needs order and Mississippi is a great place to get right. If they win 20 and make the dance every other year, they are happy.

Bruce Pearl makes killer money and has a lifetime deal at Auburn... he can do whatever he wants and they love him. He isn't leaving at this stage of his career.

Not what you are thinking. When the coaching longevity is 3 years, you are going to lose prospective hires.
If a coach is afraid of being unable to produce within 3 seasons at IU, then I'm hoping we lose those "prospective hires."

I hope that you are right in three years from now.

Looking for new coaches now only spreads that toxic negativity that kills programs. When Woodson is back next year, our fan base will become the embarrassment that they are crying about now. Negativity like this is not good for any program especially when we might need to attract top coaching talent in a year from now. I would say show some maturity and wait to see how this year plays out.
Or, the CMW could actually learn to coach? That seems like a better answer as opposed to blaming the fan base for mocking whatever is being taught.

If I had a dime every time someone posted that Allen wasn’t going anywhere because of his buyout. And that was football

Woodson might not be the right coach, but he is going NO WHERE this year, so all your negativity is not helping but actually making our program look unattractive for future recruits and coaches.

Then we will be hiring another Miller. I hope that makes you happy.

Tom Allen was here 6 years to prove himself. You are comparing oranges to apples.
Tom Allen had success beyond what IU football had experienced and momentum early in his tenure. Woody has had 2 ok seasons, no momentum, and lack of accountability and discipline. IU simply cannot afford to park the cash cow in the pond. Even Fish has started weighing in on this….which is telling. He admitted in his 51 years at IU he’d never made a comment like that.

Please explain how the mental capacity of the current team and the negativity on a fan forum has ANYTHING to do with future recruits or coaches?
There very soft. Don’t like their feelings hurt. They want to be pampered.

Good. I assure you, the product on the floor is doing vastly more damage than I am from a fan forum. Its time to move on.

As my earlier post stated, I don’t think it matters much how this season plays out or how (some of) the fanbase reacts.

I’But it matters a great deal imo how the coach and his team perform in 2024-25. Regardless of what others feel about Woodson and the program going forward, I don’t think the well-heeled folks who picked up the tab for Miller’s buyout and Allen’s buyout, and (allegedly) Dolson’s $70 million offer to Stevens, will accept a rerun in 24-25 of what we’re seeing this season. If a rerun does happen, then I expect a change to be made.

And I don’t regard speculation about it on message boards (even a hypothetical year in advance) as anywhere near as detrimental to the program as, say, losing at home to an in-state arch-rival by the largest margin in 90 tears, or possibly leading the nation in flagrant fouls and ejections. IMO those are respectively more “negative” and “toxic” than anything I’ve seen or heard from anyone outside of the program.

So because she didn’t press charges he’s the best for us??

My. My.

What have we become?
We've become a terrible basketball team with the tallest front court we have and guards that can't shoot or guard. That's what we have become with a coach who cannot coach a team up during a game or preparing them in practices. If it weren't for Ware our rebounding avg. would be pathetic too. So you can sit on your holier than thou throne and judge Pearl and Beard unworthy while IU continues to wallow in the muck and mire and you are okay with it. We have become a dysfunctional team. If I were Reneau, I'd book it after this year. Mgbako too. So defend CMW all you want but the proof is in the game films. His poor substitutions. His looking lost as a coach at times. His failure to get the guards to up their game.

Our record, dysfunctional coaching philosophy and lack of discipline make this an unattractive destination for recruits or transfers. Nice spin though. Quit blaming fans for stating obvious flaws with this staff. Lay the blame for this crap where it belongs, the BOT, AD, an unqualified coaching staff with a clueless basketball philosophy.

It’s the NIL era and we will pay. Kids care about that a lot.

Hire Beard and forget about it.

Every big time program can access NIL funds. We will choose from whoever Kansas, Kentucky or Duke are not interested in. We have to provide other good options as well including great coaching and opportunities to win at a high level. Pair that with our recruiting base and NIL funding. Then consistent winning and championships will follow. Do a thorough investigation and interview with Beard. Have someone on the staff that can take the helm if necessary.

Who you got?

1. Dusty May- most likely
2. Chris Beard- better hire
3. HR attempt…throw big money at Jay Wright and lure him out of retirement.
You never know, Donovan might be ripe for picking after this year. Three full seasons with the Bulls and so far two losing seasons and one barely over .500. Two games under .500 so far this season and I believe this is the fourth and final year of his contract.

Right now Beard, May, Pearl would all be legitimate hires. Long shots but available Jay Wright, Brad Stevens. The best of the rest Tony Bennett, Scott Drew, Shaka Smart, Nate Oats.

No doubt you will and some will be quite talented.
Tom Crean and Archie Miller say hello.

Obviously, that's not the case. In this scenario they would've had 3 years in today's environment. What happens next year? Look around, most of the high-end teams are getting turned over every year. So, when we turn most of our roster over again after this season like we did after last season, what makes you think what you're seeing on a one-year basis this year is going to result in a unique outcome, next year? At the same time, if next year could be unique, why was it such a failure this year?

When you turn over coaches every 3 years, you most likely turnover 95% of all recruits as well. Your team will will in a constant state of turmoil and flux. Which programs are demonstrating success with your proposal of a 3 year rotational coaching tenure? I can’t think of any.

Woodson deserves leeway for this year. Next year, we’ll see.

I am afraid the employment application form for head coach will look something like the following-

1) Have you ever been the target of an NCAA sanction (if you check yes your application goes in the trash can)
2) Have you ever been the target of a domestic abuse claim (if you check yes your application goes in the trash can)
3) Have you ever been accused of mistreating players or staff (if yes your application goes in the trash can)
4) Are you a proven multi-season successful head coach in D1 (if no your application goes in the trash can)

The only thing this process will provide is a full trash can with maybe one man standing.

I’m afraid recruiting is already on the downtrend. Woodson is 65 ( or 66?) and not getting any younger. I don’t think we have any shot at Sisley or Haralson with Woodson here, because of his age (among other things). We have a ton of NIL money to throw around, but that hasn’t yielded much at this point for this class. And I’m not sure I trust this staff to put together a well connected and balanced roster anyway.

You must not have read what I just wrote. Our roster is turning over annually, with or without a coaching change. That is the current landscape. The successful coaches are learning to use this as an opportunity to be competitive, year in and year out. The unsuccessful ones are struggling to adapt and thereore are unable to do so.

What you're implying is if we keep a coach, then we won't turnover our roster. Are you implying IU is going to bring this roster back next year?
