Please explain to me how Purdue losing is good for IU

My family moved around Indiana several times in the 70s-80s while growing up. I became obsessed with IU and RMK at an early age living south of Indy, before seeing my family move to the Lafayette area in 1981. Went to HS and played ball in area. deep in enemy territory. Stood my ground against a sea of Gene Keady worshipers. And ironically, I ended up going to Purdue as my original major was Meteorology (they do have one of the best schools for that major)...and also their was a local girl (although that didn't last the first semester) . By the time I tried changing majors and transferring down to Btown I was 3 semesters in already and would lose at least 1 full yr. So I stayed put and got a Management degree and moved on. The point of that self history is this- my freshman year was 86-87, the year of our last red banner. And at the start of the season, we played , and beat, the Soviet team in an exhibition game (the year before RMK pulled the team off the court). This was mid--80s Soviet team..Sabonis and company...best in the world.

My two roommates- high school friends and Purdue fans- watched the game with me in our room on TV..and rooted hard for the Communists in that game. That's how deep their bitter hatred for IU bball goes. Twilight of the cold war, and they are rooting against their 'real' enemy...and it's not Moscow.

I've since moved to the Chicago area 25+ yrs ago and have told that story to locals in an attempt to qualify and quantify the IU-Purdue rivalry. And almost no one up here will believe me- that Purdue fans would root for the freaken Russians over IU and RMK. And yet....

Reckon your meteorology was good for something - seemed you learned to always take the weather with you.

Purdue fans rooting for the Communists over IU in the height of the cold war. Hating IU over an enemy at the time with nukes pointed directly at us. That says it all. POTFB after hearing this jealous IU hate. Purdue fans hate IU more than they like their own team. POTFB

hindsight always 20/20, really wanted to transfer south but didn't want to spend 6 yrs getting my bachelors. I did spend a lot of weekends down there. Was in Varsity VIllas during Little 5 in 88 when the riot police showed up at 2am. Have a picture with our group and Adam Sandler @ MTV crew.

Purdue fans go through life with Napoleon complex. Little man syndrome.

Hard to respect a fan base whose most revered alums are a cheat and a drop out.
