Palisades fire

Most of the respondents probably think it’s Trump and not Jr they’d be voting for.

Baris said when he polled the 24 Dem primary about half the RFK voters thought they would in fact be voting for RFK Sr and not Jr. They honestly didn’t know about 1968. This country is so screwed.
That's, sadly, a believable explanation.

People are losing everything in this fire and you’re cheering it on because they’re California liberals and you think there’s some vindication for Trump. You’re no better than the people who celebrated the healthcare CEO’s murder.
'Cheering it on'
Hyperbole much?

Definitely a difference in quality. Usually becomes more appearant after they are washed a few times. Cheap ones get lots of loose threads and such.... They look good new and are fine for what they are... When you can buy three for price of one of the rhoback it's nothing to complain about

I think they are called Maelreg or something on Amazon

BTW we had a bottle of Caymus last night, was delicious. But that's about as high as I'll go on wine prices.
Try Bonanza. Caymus grapes at Mad Dog prices.

The mayor answered a question and part of the answer was about the unprecedented winds that they haven't seen in years. The Santa Ana winds have been a thing throughout recorded history and they happen multiple times every year. Every year, they talk about the wildfires and the winds that worsen things.

People get what they elect, unfortunately.

Aggravating to no end. Democratic politicians especially on the state and municipal level always want to change the world. They want to end racism, end climate change, be a beacon for immigration, lift everyone out of poverty.

They cannot be bothered with stuff like natural disaster preparedness, keeping the streets, sidewalks and parks clean, putting violent and repeat offenders in jail, making sure trash is picked up on time and potholes are filled. It is below them.

I would love see a big city mayor or governor run on the things I laid out in the second paragraph for a change. It’s not glamorous but those things are the real driver of quality of life. Can’t hope to do the big things if you can’t do the little things well.

Looking at you Brandon Johnson, Karen Bass.

I've read something that it wasn't even his. Just renting it.

It's terrible whoever's home that is.

I can't imagine losing your home, plus I thought I read somewhere where insurance companies canceled policies before the fire started. I've slept since then so I could be wrong on that one.

From what I've heard lots of insurance companies have backed out of the market. California has set up a state insurance plan for those people who couldn't otherwise get coverage. That state sponsored plan has exposure to something north off $400B. I kinda speed read something about it this morning. I'll see if I can find the link.

ETA the link of the piece I read. I got the broad strokes right, but missed some nuance. @Baller23Boogie

It's horrible to see the destruction taking place in S. Cal. The wealthy celeb's and business people get most of our attention on these boards, but there's far more middle to lower income folks who will be suffering for a long time as a reuslt of this fire. These are the people I truly feel bad for. On top of this, State Farm Insurance canceled over 30,000 home owners policies last summer, claiming the SoCal area had become too risky due to threat of fire and earthquakes. The State of California created a self supported home insurance program that will now be tested, and probably collapse under the amount of claims to be filed. (see todays Wall St Journal for details).

So yes, I feel bad for these folks... HOWEVER... these Coastal Californians have embraced bad and untrustworthy politicians for years. DEI efforts there have been over done and wrongly celebrated. Environmental concerns took precedent over those living, working and paying high taxes there. These people are screwed. I hate it for everyone, but man, they have only themselves to blame for the inept leaders that have failed in their duties this week, and beyond.

Funny story (ish).

After 9/11 I couldn't wear open toed or non laced shoes for almost 20 years. Why you ask? B/c one of the first horror scenarios that came to mind was all the people in open toed shoes or slip ons and whether their casualty/mortality rates were higher than those that had laced shoes.

No kidding. 20 ****ing years. I have overcome this. And no I never worked in city larger than Indy nor in a high rise. Go figure.
