Hard to say but I’m proud of the Vols coaching staff. QB signed for $2M (?)NIL and now wants double that. Sat out spring practice so the coaching staff said they were moving on without him. Hopefully there won’t be some idiotic program pay him what he wants. But I’m sure there will be. It would be great if all the coaching staffs would just say no and move on from some of these greedy jerks.

TN took a gamble paying him $2mil as a frosh and it paid off but it was a gamble. If the kid was really good (like he was) then it would work in their favor but if he was Hunter Johnson, they couldn't claw that money back.

I get why the kid would do this because he knows his current value. From afar, it seems like he negotiated disingenuous but then again, we weren't in the room and programs are well aware deals are all for 1 year. This is within the rules for him to do this but I agree it needs to be regulated to mitigate these situations. It deteriorates the sport.

With that said, the kid is now a proven talent at the highest level so teams will surely pay him knowing it's not as much of a gamble, but they'll also know it's a 1 year deal.

He will get paid.

Under the current system the players have all the leverage. But along those same lines, i know Scotus said you couldn't keep players from being paid but did they say anything about unlimited transfers?
Man, I disagree. Players still have barely any leverage. It's just that schools really, really want to win. And fans keep giving money when that happens. Iamaleava is gone to the NFL after this season, of course he's going to try to get his pay day. And it'll happen because a team with a middling quarterback will have donor money flow in to get a chance at the playoffs. Chasing money is lame but I can't blame college kids for getting their bread. We've been talking about players didn't come to play school and now they at least get to capitalize with something more tangible.

I think it will level out at some point and cases like this are why. The bubble will pop for kids pushing their NIL deals and I think we'll find a status quo similar to whatever was happening before this with bagmen. Coaches could be setting an example for their players by taking pay cuts to not be the highest paid state employee and sticking around for their contract length.

I'm not one of those guys living in the past, but if I were Coaching, I wouldn't touch this Kid. Ability is one thing, Character is another. There is such a thing as Addition by Subtraction. There comes a point where Your antics and attitude become so distracting and poisonous that the Team is better off without You.
Football is different than basketball in terms of NIL. With over 100 Scholarship Players and only so much money, things can get a little thin as You spread the money around. In basketball, with fewer players on a team, and a game where it is easier to see and measure the contribution of a player to a team, the decisions are easier. You may be the best Quarterback in the World and We could give You the key to the campus. But if You get paid Megabucks and We don't have enough Money to attract Quality Offensive Linemen, How good are You going to be with a lineup of Walk Ons blocking for You? I have seen this kid play on TV several times, and IMO, He isn't $4 million a year good.
And then there is the question of how much is enough. I don't begrudge anybody making as much Money as possible. But once You sign an Agreement and take the initial Money You are bound by the terms of the contract. If Your solution is to pick up Your ball and go Home when You don't get Your way, I'm not interested in You and paying You $ 4 million to expose my team to your lack of integrity.

Then it’s getting to be like the NFL. Look how the QBs are getting these massive contracts then the team doesn’t have enough money to either keep their O linemen or doesn’t have the money to get good free agents to protect him. Flacco was a good example years ago after winning the Super Bowl. Team went down hill and he as well. Burrows would be another example. And his highly paid receivers won’t help get the linemen to protect him either.

Ding……

I don’t care what he thinks he’s worth or what the market says you “may be worth”.

I’m sick of it.

He has an 80 yr life and apparently a
5 year earning window. What’s his degree?
Who awarded it? Who’s gaming who?
Is it a usable thing if indeed he is awarded it?

Earn a dollar — have 40/30 cents to spend.

Anyone else one here capable of understanding this?
