I've always thought a message from former presidents and even our generals would be good. This country is far from perfect, but seems like many of our bedrocks are in shaky ground.

A worthy idea but I do not believe that will happen as we do not have actual leaders right now. We have only those pretending to be leaders and the hatred they stoke is killing our country. But I think that part of that lack of respect and civility is occurring because we have two parties that have no interest in doing what is best for the country. Any effort to work together is met with distain on both sides and legislation is so often guided by the results of some group spending the most money.

Consider what happen in the bill passed by the democrats recently. Passage relied on a senator's vote who insisted on removing a part of the legislation that was unfavorable to a special interest group who has given her over a million dollars. A previous majority leader who talks about doing what the people elected us to do stated publicly that "we" must keep in mind what our donors want. At present, one of the parties is spewing rhetoric about the revenge they will reap when in control.

A worthy idea, but I'm afraid those who would heed advice from those past presidents aren't the ones fanning the flames of partisan anger (maybe Obama to a small degree).

Putting Maxine or Biden in Trump's league as a source of division is like grouping flies with a rattlesnake. His exit would do more to lower the temperature than anything any past president could say.

The biggest problem with his responses with Goat - and vice versa - is that the responses feel personal to the rest of us. Personal posting ain't good when it results from being triggered by the post to which the poster is responding. For either side . . . it causes retrenchment and narrow thinking.

Perhaps some voluntary time away can freshen the perspective a bit. I don't know whether Goat can take time what with his modding and all . . . but MTIOTF ain't a mod, so he can take some voluntary time off . . . .

I like both guys . . . when they're not this. I'm pretty sure MTIOTF is not sure he likes what he's posting right now . . . seems to be pugnacious because he feels cornered. Very seldom does one need to checkmate the other guy in a conversation on the Cooler.
