Favorite Book Read of 2022: Lonesome Dove (even though I'm not particularly fond of McMurtry's concept of women in this book. The writer, not the poster)

Favorite Movie of 2022: The Northman
Northman would be on my bottom 5. I did enjoy the Vikings series to a degree and the Vikings Valhalla was somewhat accurate if you have read The History of England.

Gladys Knight was the best . . . Clooney was just the longest . . . U2 was meh. The one that surprised me the most was Tania Leon . . . I said to MrsSope "we're getting cultured" . . .

. . . Vince Gill did everything he could to hide and not steal Amy's night . . . .
Clooney’s could have lasted all night, as far as I’m concerned. But I’m a little biased. His dad speaking made me teary, but many of the others were pretty funny. He seems to actually be a good guy. I’d never herd of Tania, so I needed that culture.

It's still a really good read. Augustus McCrae has entered the pantheon of all time favorite book characters. At least now I can finally watch the mini series.
Now on to the Last Picture Show trilogy. As much as I love the Lonesome Dove series of books, McMurtrys best IMO is LPS trilogy. My hottest take is the Duane’s Depressed is his best book.

Awesome. Was debating that or finishing up McCarthy's border trilogy. I read All the Pretty Horses a few years back and then never came back to the other two.

Looks like I might be doing both in 2023

Last picture show trilogy might even be better. Agree with Cortez. And the border trilogy. So good too. Good year of books

I can recommend The Menu. Always been a fan of Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor Joy is....chef's kiss. Hamfisted story of course but the acting and setup are pretty neat. John Leguizamo is also really good.

Just started White Noise by Don DeLillo. He was a hole in my reading and I have some work to do.

Has anyone else seen The Whale yet? It’s received some criticism but I thought it was really excellent, especially Brendon Frasier.

My daughter and I went to see maverick. Not really a fan of going to the theatre anymore. Not sure why.
That’s a great one to see at the theater. I still love going to movies. Also Wildcat on Amazon Prime is a good one. About a vet who lives in the wild and helps rescue ocelots and release them.

Sounds good. We are going to start either Willow or national treasure this weekend

I finally started Yellowstone. I can see people in all kinds of horrible situations but can’t stand to see animals. The whole series starts with the horse being shot, so gave up. Trying again.

Anyone seen Kaleidoscope yet? Sounds interesting and especially the fact that you can watch it in any order.

REWATCH ALERT: I'm rewatching the Popes. Just started the Young Pope tonight. I will stick through both series, to see if they are as good as I thought the first time.

Snap judgment of first serious: These guys planned more than I imagined; I saw a lot of references to things I didn't know about the first time I watched it.

Has anyone else seen Banshees of Insherin? If you liked In Bruges, you will like this. Funny and sad and quirky.

I enjoyed it, but...heavy with cliche and overwrought. But it had its moments. When Fiennes cooks that cheeseburger, the joy on his face would melt the heart of any line cook.

I think (anyway) the underlying issue with Chef is some kind of unresolved sexual dysfunction.

Mother issues
Tried and failed to sleep with a coworker/direct report
Infatuated with Taylor-Joy's prostitute character

The tension between her character and Chef is palpable. She has power over him and knows it. Good actors doing their best with a so so script.
